I was on staff as a pre-production specialist at a printing company 12 months ago. Alan Brody, A MIT Professor and author of White Shaka Boy submitted files for print production. Now; turn around time is typically 10 business days for books to get produced as long as files come in correctly, but this MIT Professor submitted files for his book one page at a time, and all different sizes. He did pay up front a deposit back in January 2009, but tried a false chargeback because he couldn't get his files correct. It took literally a full year (6 months of which he was silent and trying to work his files correctly) and over 50 hours of prepress time to get his files correct. His initial book quote was based on 62 pages, but that doubled, to 122 (he was counting pages not sides), and he is after one full year completely harassing the print company to produce the books without covering the prepress costs he incurred, and not wanting to pay for the double page count. The folks that work at the facility offered him a tremendous discount just to get him taken care of, but now that he has the completed print files and a completed production sample approved, he again asks for a full refund. I had to leave the company for pregnancy and worked freelance for them. Alan has been rude, vindictive, unappreciative, and threatening. I can't believe an MIT professor wouldn't have the ware with all to submit files correctly all sized right the first time. Furthermore I can't believe Alan Brody would want to receive full and finally corrected files and not want to pay for them and have the balls to request a refund even after the credit card company turned it down. I believe MIT teaches to pay for services rendered, and see a project through to the end. Any other printers out there wanting to print for him, get a check, and ensure in clears first. Then print his books. Know they were well prepared, and not paid for. The company I worked for however did pay me for the hours spent! He'd send emails like this: please swap out these files and set the book at 6.7 width. Can anyone say, that means set the entire thing up again, wider book large pager, costs more. All the other pages now need to be increased and bleed added to each one. This stuff went on for a year.

I understand that having had difficulty with an author named Alan Brody you researched and stumbled on the Alan Brody who is also an author and works at MIT (pictured and referenced throughout your complaint), but he is NOT the Alan Brody who wrote White Shaka Boy. That is some other Alan Brody who lives in NY (Scottsdale, I think) not the one who lives in Massachusetts and teaches at MIT. Please correct the record on this and remove my father's picture from this article as your facts are a wee bit off and you are complaining about someone who is not, in fact, in any way connected to the issue you have had.
Thanks,
Dylan Brody (son of the Alan Brody who works at MIT and NOT the one who wrote White Shaka Boy)
