Alert Cellular Destroying My Credit Lehi, Utah

In 2007, I told my then 18 year old that she is now responsible for her own cell phone bill. I took her off of my T-mobile account via phone conference and she set-up her own account. Months passed and I began to get calls from a company called Alert Cellular asking for my daughter. They left her messages which I relayed and encouraged my daughter to contact them. Months after that though, Alert Cellular began threatening ME with the responsibility of owing $300 because of my daughter's early termination contract with T-Mobile, including the threat of ruining my credit.

I called T-Mobile immediately and was surprised that they didn't know who Alert Cellular were. I asked if this company could hold me responsible and they said no since I am not on my daughter's contract. Relieved, I wrote Alert Cellular a letter explaining that I am not responsible for this debt. Their reply, "Then we're sending YOU to collections!"

In 2009 I found Alert Cellular had made good on their threat. So I filed an investigation and was confident that this would all be resolved. Equifax's findings was that Alert Cellular would remain on my report. I couldn't believe it! Now, fast forward, June 2010, I am pre-approved for an auto-loan only if I agree to pay-off the Alert Cellular collections of $501 (it'll keep going up) or provide documented proof that this IS not mine. I am appalled!

T-Mobile can do next to nothing to help since they cannot divulge my daughter's information to me or to the investigating agency(ies). The only thing they can provide to the credit bureau is the last four digits of a cell phone number that might have been her number. My daughter is in Germany perparing for her husband's deployment to Iraq and Alert Cellular has disappeared. I'm frustration and amazed, I loath Alert Cellular!
