Adam Defoe will promise anything he thinks you want to hear, even if it's not true. They will haul your freight, but they won't tell you they have unsafe equipment and drivers working up to 48 hours with no down time.
This company forces drivers to drive non-stop with no downtime. When the drivers scoff, their job is threatened. When the drivers attempt to do their job safely and legally, they're accused by the staff of "complaining" too much. They operate trucks with numerous mechanical problems and trailers with no brakes...but use a local tire shop to fix all the issues. They will put sensitive freight on dirty or broken trailer surfaces without any regard for the delivery condition of the product (or the FDA for that matter). When the driver refuses to put a customer in a position of receiving damaged product, he/she is punished by having money withheld from their pay "for fuel" which is always typically paid by the company. They force the drivers to pickup/deliver equipment to mechanic shops, etc. on their days off with no reimbursement for their time and gas in personal vehicles.
They have trucks not properly registered, then act like it's the driver's fault when he sits at a weigh station for several hours waiting for Adam to email D.O.T the proper documentation.
Dispatch will promise loads to brokers, then force the drivers to deliver on time, without taking into account the driver hasn't had his 10 hours off. Dispatch doesn't consider downtime for fueling, eating, etc. They don't even look to determine the driving time involved. They don't care. Adam will force the driver to send him the bill of lading BEFORE the delivery is made. Adam then sends it to the broker demanding payment, not telling the broker his freight isn't at the receiver yet.
Adam promises cash under the table to the drivers if they perform illegal job functions, then informs the drivers "don't tell the office" or "my partner can't know about this". When the drivers do what he wants "you're the man". When they don't, he gets very emotional and threatens the drivers' jobs, then hides behind his attorney.
Duane Hedrick is a hot head who flies off the handle when he doesn't get his way. He's young and unprofessional and knows nothing about the life of a trucker. He freaks out when the trucks break down and won't hesitate to explode and cuss people out. Gloria Hoffman is much more pleasant to work with; however, because she was once married to a trucker, she believes she's an expert of the industry and doesn't like to be challenged when she's wrong. These people all think they're in charge of this mom & pop shop, and there's no clear leadership or professionalism on any front.
They only provide pay settlements when you ask for it, and it's on a very basic spreadsheet any middle school kid could put together. The talent and skillset to properly operate and manage an office doesn't exist. The rules change on a weekly basis, and these folks think they are entitled to manipulate a driver's pay in any way they choose...then they claim its under "the contract" (a contract they are unable to produce a copy of). They don't seem to understand, according to the federal government, a driver is only a contract employee if the driver owns/leases the truck.
This company is clearly struggling financially. Drivers are forced to sit for hours and fueling stations waiting for the fuel cards to get loaded with money, then questioned about why they're running late for deliveries.
When a driver resigns they claim he was fired, which is really ignorant considering he can then file for unemployment, but that's another example of the inept people we're talking about. They withhold pay at their discretion, lie about the the facts, and nickel and dime a person's pay until there's nothing left to pay out. They do whatever they choose with no regard for the laws under the Federal Department of Labor or the whistleblower/retaliation laws set in place by OSHA. When you dispute their actions (or lack thereof), Adam hides behind his attorney who isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
These people are clueless about the trucking industry and have only one goal in mind...make as much money as possible regardless of who gets screwed over in the process. Do not work for these people or do business with them in any way, unless you're willing to retain an attorney.
