I will be the first to admit, I owe Alliance one a lot of money. I was young and stupid, really did not care about collections. I am now older and wiser.

Now that I am becoming responsible and paying attention to my credit and my life, I have contacted them to work on my accounts with them. Needless to say I have a lot of accounts 33 precisely. I know WOW that's a lot, trust me I know im living it.

Anyhow I owe over 22,000 in collections, 12,000 is just there Fees. For collections dating back to 96. I was trying to work with them because they suspended my driver's license. Now they want the full amount paid before I can get my license back, or at least there fees paid first 12,000!!

This is insane, isn't there a statue of limitations out there for this?? I tried to work out a payment plan, no go unless I pay 1,500 down and after I pay 12000 they will reinstate my license. WHAT THE HELL!!!

So now I am stuck, I can't get my license, which means I can't drive, which means my current job I have to give up because no public transportation reaches out where I work.

So to keep my job and support my family I must break the law and prey Im not caught, and come up with 12,000.00 in the mean time. Yes I know I screwed up in my past being irresponsible, but damn isn't there anything I can do..

Alliance one is unfair, and unjust

AUTHOR: dhighway - (United States of America)

I have had 4 DWLS tickets, do to back child support, not getting there weekly monies! usually am unaware of the suspension when im ticketed, notifies DMV, before notifing me, now Alliance one handling the courts finances, have had payment plan, revoked for missing one payment, and 2 years unemployed have, balloned the balance from 4k to over 7k, and they do have my drivers privaledges revoked! DMV will not reinstate license till all monies are payed or ajudicated! Now that is not court ordered? but is it? there fiscal hitman sort of, collector, and the penalties and interest are UNFAIR! have acrued 3000.00 in int and non pay penalties, that wont stop even when your in their payment plan! This in my mind is what is called a legal LOAN SHARK! and it has to be stopped! no one can get a job anymore without a valid DL. and this they no! so game set and match, goes to Alliance! Courts are even setting them up with offices right in the counties bldg, cities bldg, furnished by the tax payers of this country. We need to stand up and protect what rights are left us, before we have none.

Alliance One makes it impossible to pay your tickets and get back your drivers license

AUTHOR: Julie - (U.S.A.)

My son was also turned over to Alliance One because of not paying his traffic tickets in a timely manner. He too like the person who originally posted this complaint was young and irresponsible at the time. He now would like to try to get his life together. He contacted Alliance One to set up a payment arrangements and they were not the least bit helpful. He owes approximately $3,000. They told him that he needs to pay 1/2 down and then pay the rest off within a few months. It was not reasonable. I'm not quite sure why the court system works with Alliance One. They need to have a collection agency who is willing to help their client. Alliance One does not do that. Quite the contrary. They make it next to impossible for a person who has made bad mistakes and used poor judgement in the past to get their life back on track.

I dont think.....

AUTHOR: Kae - (U.S.A.)

$3300 tickets, and $9000 for medical should be able to cross reference this with the original tickets and medical bills. As far as interest, fees or fines they are only charging what the court and medical bills have under contract when you use there services that the the consumer has signed and with the tickets there is know choice with that.

The collection agency does make the profit off of the interest. It would be a percentage of what the creditor and agency have set up on the total balance. The dispute is not the amount the of the bills or interest its the percentage this consumer has to put down to get his license back.

Im thinking that the tickets are of course goverment so that makes sense as far as the medical bills could have been from a county hospital WHICH IS IN TURN OWNED MY THE GOVERMENT and in turn they HAVE THE RIGHT to RECAPTURE there money back. County hospitals will even have the bill come out of your income taxes.
So my friend i would say PAY the $2200 down or pay something on it. If i remember correctly they try to get garnishments, judgements and you cant include those in a bankruptcy.

It appears the collection agency is pulling a fast one

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

All states have laws to suspend your license if you fail to pay a traffic fine or court finds because of traffic offences. medical bills have NOTHING to do with this, there just trying to get more money out of you. Contact the DMV, and see what you can do to get an occcupational/restricted license, if they will give them for dui, you should be able to get one.

If the dmv give you a hard time, file a motions with the court that gave you the fines, and the court can also issue these license and see if the court can place you on a reasonable payment plan( not sure if Washington states let their courts do a payment plan).

Get from the DMV, a total print out of your fines and include it with your motion and if the fines, don't match the amount that the collection agency is wanting, file a complaint with the washington attorney general, the FTC, and the director of motor vehicle. make sure you include all paperwork from the collection agency

The collection agency MUST follow the law and rules set down with the DMV, this doesn't sound like harmless error

Bankruptcy? your the only one that would know if that's the best thing to do, just slow down and look at it in the long run, if that will help you

Joseph, they are engaging in fraud!

AUTHOR: Steve [Not A Lawyer] - (U.S.A.)

Joseph,

If the court fines are the thing that legally allows them you get a suspension on your driver's license, the medical bills are a separate issue.

Actually, they have engaged in EXTORTION as far as the medical bills go, as they are a separate issue. That is the definition of extortion.

What they are doing here is tying them together, so when you make a payment on your fines, you validate the medical bills. Totally illegal and unethical even for those bottomfeeders.

You need to file complaints with the State immediately!

If the fines are only $3300 as you state, it would be $330 down and then a payment plan.

You need to send them a DEBT VALIDATION request on the MEDICAL BILLS, and a separate one for the FINES. Do not admit to anything!! DEMAND that they give you a full itemization of charges and a full account history of each. Do these separately!

Send these by CERTIFIED MAIL, return reciept requested. be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy of each for your records. This is very important.

This way they incriminate themselves.

Also go to the courthouse or the DMV and get a statement from them stating what you owe, and what it will take to get your license back.

Thank you all for your input,

In this wonderful state I live in Alliance one is contracted by the State government for fines collections. If you are in there collections they will suspend your license. However they have a program to get your license back. You pay 10% of your collection amount and setup a payment program and keep to it, you can have your license back.

So according to what I understood of this is 10% of my fines, which is 300.00. But they say no I have to pay 2,200 to start and payments of 500.00 a month. To pay my back medical bills that I have in collections or they will not release my license.

To answer the question, no I don't have an accident or past due child support or anything else holding up my license just 22,000 owed to these creeps.

Because of this I was considering bankruptcy then at that point all I would have is those fines everything else would be wiped off, I know that is a bad option but compared to going to jail it maybe my only option for this situation.

My court fines are 3,300.00 which is holding up my license, but they say unless I pay on the medical bills of 9000.00 and there intrest fees of 8700.00. I won't get my license back at all because it is all one account.

Thank you all for your input

My two cents.

AUTHOR: Steve [Not A Lawyer] - (U.S.A.)

Joseph,

There are only 2 types of debts I know of that can result in having your driver's license suspended. One is for child support, and the other is if you had an uninsured at fault accident.

Other than that the SOL applied when you first defaulted. In WA, the SOL for credit card debt is 3 years from date of charge off, and 6 years on all other written contracts.

However, when you make payments, the SOL is restarted.

WHO exactly took your license? And for what reason?

And, there is no such thing as collections fees. Totally illegal. No collection agency can charge you fees. Fees are the responsibility of the party they are collecting for, NOT yours. They can only charge the default rate of interest until charge off, then after charge off the federal mandated max, which I believe is now 6 or 8%.

Why do you say you owe Alliance One alot of money? Did they extend you credit? Did they sue you and get a judgement? Or do they just say you owe? Please clarify for us.

driver license?

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

you need to give more info. on this, were you in an accident?
collection agency's have nothing to do with driving?
before anyone can help, you need to go into a much detail as you can, over the license.
Only a judge can suspend, a driver license, or the state for insurance reason.

MORE INFO

AUTHOR: Don - (U.S.A.)

First, I want to commend you for stating that you are trying to take care of your debt. Now for the questions. What is the debt that Alliance is collecting on? I ask becuase no debt collector has the power to suspend your driver's license. This sounds like a collection for a government of some kind. Please tell us more, if you can.

There is an sol..

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

which varies by state. I'm sure Steve will be along to give his advice. But, I have never heard of them suspending your driver's license for an unpaid credit card or other debt. How did that come about?
