On 8-6-08 I received an email from Experian Credit Report saying that a potentially damaging report was trying to be added to my account on my credit report. It was from Alltel Communications and they were stating that my account started in 4/2005 was being written off in the amount of 125.00. I disputed this online with Experian on 8-4-08 and got a response back that it had been reviewed and updated. But the derrogatory remark from Alltel stood at being written off. I called the company myself on 8-7-08 and they stated that it was paid in full and that i should contact the Better Business Bureau to get it off my credit report as a negative factor., because they were showing that it was paid in full and in good standing. The following is an explanation of the incident this pertains to: In 2005 I went to a local Alltel store and secured a cell phone with them. At that time the dealer told me that I had 14 days in which I could bring the phone back in and opt out without being penalized or charged. I paid the initial set up fee and left the store. I decided within 1 day on another provider, so I took the phone back to Alltel the following day, complete with the charger. I did not ONCE use the phone, returned it to the store the next day, and the dealer refunded my set up fee. Since then, I have received NOT one phone call (my number and address remain the same that they have on file) NOt one letter, until I was informed of a "write off of 125.00" on my credit monitoring system with Experian. My credit score went down 20 points because of this. All I wanted was to get this off my credit score ----here is their explaination:------
I received the final case explaination on 9-12-08. I want to go on record as follows: The letters from Alltel contradict one another, making this both insulting, and erroneous on the part of Alltel. A business that supposed to be a major player in the business sector on both local and national levels.
I will use quotes directly from the Alltel representative in this case, LaTosha Keaton:
(on her first explaination) Quote: Our records show that Ms. Potter's mobile ending in 0884 was disconnected prematurely and an early termination fee was assessed". "The contract was extended on October 24, 2004 for 2 years, on June 30th it was forwarded to a collection agency". We apologize for MR.CAIN'S inconvenience."
Second explaination: Quote" Our records show that on 1-24-00 Ms Potter activated ending in 6801 with a one year agreement, with an equipment upgrade on July 11, 2003 which started a 2 year agreement for July 11,2005. It was disconnected prematurely on 1-31-05, assessing an early termination fee, it was turned over to collections on June 30th, 2005 and paid on July 13th, 2005."
If one reads these statements, it makes one wonder, does the truth lie in explaination #1 or explaination #2. It couldn't be a charge on both, as the statements made by Ms. LaTosha Keaton contradict one another. Explaination #1 explains an account 0884 with and early termination fee on that number, Explaination #2 explains account #6801 as an equipment upgrade with a fee assessment to that number.
My correct mobile number (given by myself on my original complaint) is 6801. These allegations are untrue and unfounded. I received NOTHING in the mail as to a "premature termination" or equipment upgrade penalty. I also wonder why, 2 years later (true number of years on both explainations by Ms. Keaton) is this appearing on my credit?
I am appalled by the business tactics and the outright appearance of 2 accounts of misrepresentation I have received from Alltel. I want a correct explaination and/or apology from Alltel along with the derogatory charges on my credit dropped.
NOTE: As of 12-8-08 this is the last correspondence entered...No other letters or explainations....the case is officially listed as CLOSED.
