I have been with Altell since 1994. I have been a good customer w/ minimal problems. Most of the problems I have encountered over the years were usually solved in a fair manner over the phone or the internet. In November of 2007 I planned to travel to CA. Since that was out of my area I called Altell as previously instructed and told them what dates I would be out of my calling area and I wanted to pay the additional $10.00 charge so I wouldn't have long distance and roaming charges. They said that was fine and to call them when I returned so the extra charge would not remain on upcoming bills. They never mentioned I had only 100 minutes or that the calls to "family and friends" were no longer free. My next bill from Altell totaled over $500.00. I could not believe it!!!! I have 4 lines on this bill..it averages $100 to $150 per month. I had a $150 phone that was purchased for my dtr for Christmas. the rest was long distant and roaming charges. I called Altell 4 times. I wrote their customer service dept twice trying to get someone to understand that the fault was not all mine. They should inform their customers how the out of area plan works. No one would listen..no adjustment was made to my bill. I am so frustrated with their practice. They said that because I used the out of area plan in Aug. I should have know what to expect. Well....if your bill is not out of whack in Aug why would I question the bill. They are a large company...they know I need a phone..can't break my contract with out a large fee, but belive me there will be no more contracts with this company and I will leave as soon as possible. Someone needs to address what they are doing. Also when we examined my plan some how three different games and services had been aded to my plan w/ no authorization from anyone in my family. The sales rep could not explain how that happened. Altell needs to accept partial respnsibility for their unfair billing practice. I was not informed about the rules of the out of area plan...I should not be unfairly billed for these charges.

Customer since 1994??

AUTHOR: Blake - (U.S.A.)

You said you were a customer since 1994??

If I had been a Customer of a company for 12 years, I would be sure that I knew everything of my plan and my operation of my account. I have been an Alltel Customer for over 2 years and I know everything about my account and what they have to offer. That is why I came to Alltel. I did my home work.

Before Alltel was Sprint. I had Sprint because that is what family had. Once my 2 years was up, I switched. I did my research before switching and I am happy with my service.

You have to take a test to get a drivers license. Maybe people need to start taking a test before they get anything involving Technology.

Oh yea .. I forgot .. did you ask what was covered in that roaming for $10 since it was soooooooooo cheap?

CS is about educating the customer

AUTHOR: Lisa - (U.S.A.)

I worked for a major cell phone company for years and GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE is about educating the customer. If the customer wasn't told about how it works then you can't assume they are suppose to know.

YOU need an inservice in CS!

AUTHOR: Bikebryan - (U.S.A.)

The truth is that You and most others need a crash course in Customer Service.

Good Customer Service is NOT about giving you everything you ask for. It consists of you being treated fairly and consistently, the way everybody else would be treated in the same situation, following the same guidelines each time.

Alltel, like every other company out there, expects YOU to take some responsibility for your actions. The number of times I hear "I thought that..." or "well I was under the impression that..." astounds me. You thought wrong. Your impression was incorrect.

NO cell company has ever given out free roaming. Once roaming you are billed PER MINUTE no matter who you call. PERIOD. This has been true since the inception of the industry decades ago. Alltel's Free to Roam gives you 100 minutes of coverage. That's how it always has been. Just because YOU did not get all the details when you added it does not mean that CS did a poor job. Where is YOUR part in this; when did YOU decide to accept any responsibility for YOUR poor job in finding out what your liability might be?

It's situations like this that sicken me. People, ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR MISTAKES. Don't lay it on the company later.

He gave me credit for the the long distance and roaming charges.

AUTHOR: Wahee - (U.S.A.)

After 2 wks of fighting w/ customer service a well spoken polite supervisor called today and apologized for all my problems. He gave me credit for the the long distance and roaming charges. While I certainly appreciate his service I think the Altell service dept needs some inservice regarding handling phone calls and understnding the true meaning of customer service.........
