I ran into an ex-employee from Amazon Animal Hospital this past weekend whom had left there awhile ago and thought a bit in whether or not I would report what he/she told me about this place but my gut told me to do so being as I think what they are doing is so wrong that it cannot go without something being said. I am also going to go to the state if I need to.
In essence, these poor employees are having to rip off most of the clients at this hospital in order to keep their jobs like he/she did. I will explain further. First and foremost, the pets are not in total harm, but the client's wallets are. They are in deep, deep harm, and have been so for many years.
In this day and age you would think that most busineses would lend a helping hand to the economy. Sure they may take in the average stray or help a client with payment plans, however, for the most part, it is drilled into the employees heads that whenever a new client walks into the door, they are to look at the car the client drives, their jewelry, job, etc. and base their treatment upon that.
On top of that, there are clients that are labeled "GOLD clients". These clients are labeled this in their computer. This means the Techs have the freedom to do everything and anything they want to do as far as treatment is concerned without even asking the client if they want to do so.
Many of the things they are doing DO NOT need to be done. They also mark up the prices because these clients make more money than the average person, therefore they feel as though they can charge them more. These GOLD clients are also considered GOLD because Dr. Carvajal gets annoyed when most clients ask questions or deny treatment because they may have certain meds at home that were requested so why spend the extra money? He feels as though the client should keep their mouth shut and do exactly as told. If they do this, they are a GOLD client. Ask questions and you will be talked about and laughed at.
For the average Joe, they get a discount on certain services and when they decline treatment due to the fact that their prices are outrageous, they get treated poorly by the office manager who is Dr. Carvajal's son. It is sad. The employees are told to do whatever it takes to get people in the door. Once they get in the door and if they do not ask for an estimate than they are told to just put on their invoice whatever you need to without asking the client beforehand. Keep their pet captive if needed??? I am sure they would do this. This is ridiculous! This sounds like a car mechanic!
This doctor is so demeaning to his clients and although there are probably some people out there that love him because he talks so much because he can't stay busy, i am sure this report will open up some minds of those that thought they were being scammed and just did not have the proof. This ex-employee even knows the price of a euthanasia. (They know a lot of prices but I don't have the specifics and do not want to state anything incorrectly but you would GASP at the mark up). They charge triple the amount of what there cost is! FOR AN EUTHANASIA! Have a heart!
Yes, businesses need a mark up but to triple their cost sometimes quadruple their medication costs!!! Wow! This ex told me they don't even tell you about price matching of course. They never told me. Some of you may think this ex-employee left on bad terms and they did not. To prove so, ask Amazon if you are a GOLD client and if you are, ask what that means. I am sure the Office Manager will have a script to tell the receptionist once hearing about this.
They have been through so many employees for those of you that have been there for years oughta know. Now you can see why. If you were to question their so called ethics, you would or will be fired. In this persons case this was something different. This person is so scared of these people they are afraid to come out. This Office Manager has been known to make threats.
This place is a complete scam. It won't be long before they shut down I am sure. I have read other remarks on this site about Amazon and am sure I will read more. I am sure the Office Manager will have a good rebuttle but in the meantime please call the office and find out what category you are in. Maybe have a friend go in without telling them they know you to see if their cost is similar to yours? Best of luck. I know I will no longer be going there. And yes, I was a GOLD client. I feel like a sucker. I knew something was going on when all of a sudden things were getting tacked on to my bill that i never had on there before for the same kind of problem with my pet. I will be telling everyone I know about them. Everyone.
Speak out if you can. In this day and age you cannot "afford" to do so. Some may say, shame on you for not questioning your bill, but how many of us question what OUR doctors tell us what needs to be done when we are sick? Our animals cannot talk. We are their only true sole voices. Obviously not this Vet's. Speak out. Your pets need you to.
