I took my dog to this horrible place because he had an injured ear. A few days before I took him my 3 year old daughter was playing with the dog and decided to put a tiny rubber band on the tip of his ear since he has long hair. She was acting like he was a babie doll. I had not idea she had done this until a day or two later. I had a talk with my daughter and told her never to put anything on the dogs ear because it can hurt him. She was crying and felt bad about it. Our dog was fine until I was petting him and noticed the tip of his right ear was hard. It appears the rubber band had cut off the circulation to the tip of his right ear.

My kids and I took him to Amazon Animal hospital on 6/12/08 to have him checked out and see what they can do for him. Sergio Carvajal, Medical Director cane in the room with an assistant and said they are taking my dog for a minute. When they returned to the room with my dog his right ear was shaved and the tip of his ear ripped half way off.

I was so upset because I never gave them authorization to do that to him. Sergio Carvajal said "He is going to need surgery" I asked him how much is everything going to cost? Sergio Carvajal said he will tell Juan Carvajal to give me an estimate and leave the room. Then Juan Carvajal come in the room and says it will cost $347.80 for the sergury plus $46.80 for the office visit. I told him I am a single parent and can not afford it.

He said "Okay then we can't do anything for him" with no remorse. He then charged me the $46.80 office visit and said "you guys can leave now" my kids were crying because Juan Carvajal or Sergio Carvajal didn't offer any kind of help or advise for our dog. They did not care that our dog was bleeding & did not offer gaze or ointment.

The next day 6/13/08 I called them spoke to ( Marka Finn, Receptionist )to let them know how disappointed I am about they way they treated my dog and that I will be calling (8 on your side) so that everyone will know that they only care about money not animals. A few minutes later Juan Carvajal called me being extremly rude and said "If you repot us to 8 on your side I am going to call Animal service on you" I told him to do what he wants. He said " There is nothing we can do if you don't have money" I was shocked he said that to m . I disconnected the call.

On 6/16/08 I received a note on my door from Animal service stating there is a complaint of Animal cruelty from Amazon Animal Hospital. I called and they told me all the lies Juan Carvajal had told them. Everything was completely made up. I told Animal Service Juan Carvajal had threatend me to call them if I report them to 8 on your side. I informed them they are welcome to come see my dog anytime. Juan Carvajal place a false report against me. Please do not take your pets to Amazon Animal Hospital on Clearwater FL they don't care about Animal!

Get real

AUTHOR: Stacey - (U.S.A.)

When you take on the responsibility of a four legged family member then take this into consideration
These animals cannot speak so therefore cannot tell you when they hurt, are sick or need to be held - YOU need to be aware of their needs - that means more than just going potty, food and such
Grow up - vets spend more time in college and graduate school than most Drs do
I love my babies and would do everything within my power to make sure they are safe and healthy
I cannot tell you how many times I have held one of my babies while they passed (and that includes my horses)
Grow up - if you cannot enjoy the four legged babies you do not need one

Re: Come On People

AUTHOR: Elizabeth - (U.S.A.)

Kenia, I agree Juan was rude in calling Animal Services because you couldn't afford to pay for his services. But it sounds like you were rude too -- or at least an annoying complainer who expects to receive something for nothing, just because she's so darn special ("I am a single parent"? So is Madonna). No wonder Juan wanted to punish you. Though in hindsight, he would have done better to suggest the cheaper services of any less experienced vets he might know. Juan's not the only vet in town. And anyway, if you couldn't afford it at the moment, most vets take credit cards.

The vets don't care about animals? They care, but they also have to pay for the office, medical equipment, etc. Compared to what similar surgery would cost for a human, $400 is cheap. So if you won't pay to help your dog, I think you're the one who doesn't care about animals.

Come on People

AUTHOR: Irritated - (U.S.A.)

It's really funny how quickly people jump on the "blame the owner" ban-wagon. Yes, it's sad that the puppy had a rubber-band tied around her ear, but what is even sadder is that an animal doctor would be so consumed with greed that he would not help this poor animal. It's not the dogs fault that the owner did not have the funds to go ahead with the surgery, and the dog was the one that ended up with all the pain. The vet should have absolutely taken care of that dog. People go through hard times, and sometimes are short on cash, that is no reason to go after them. I really hope anyone that can attack this poor woman or anyone else like her ends up in the same situation one day. Karma sucks people. Try having some compassion. The world may just ended up becoming a better place, imagine that.

I'm Disgusted

AUTHOR: Vee - (U.S.A.)

I'm trying to find out where in this mix you were ripped off. You allowed your three-year-old unsupervised child to harm a family pet. You allowed this to happen,so therefore, as an adult you are responsible for the care of this animal that had no voice to speak with. I imagine the dog was in unspeakable pain, and it is beyond my means of understanding how you could NOT get the proper medical care for your pet. You should have payed for the services. Maybe it would have taught you a lesson as well: don't give your child the means to wrap a rubberband around a dog's ear.

I blame you for this. You can't expect something for nothing. Why are you blaming this office for your neglect.

Here's a tip for you: get rid of your pets. It's apparent you're not able to take care of them properly.

Where is the rip off?

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

Just because you were unsuccessful at getting something for nothing does not mean you were ripped off.

It is customary to PAY for services rendered.

The veterinarian was in no way obligated to perform the services for which you had already informed him you had no intention to pay.

He was within his rights to report you to animal control. You had an animal which needed surgery, and you were not providing appropriate care for that animal. Is this the veterinarian's fault? NO!
