Ever had a Southwestern Bell phone bill that was not yours? well You better hope American agencies don't get a hold of it. MR. Cruz at American agencies is the man (if you want to call him that)that I called today. I have had a prevous conversation with him and it was pretty much the same. I called because I am trying to buy a home and was turned down because of this very large account with them, well I had reported last year that the account was a fraud account.
I never lived where this phone bill was created,and I can prove that I didn't live there. I demanded it be removed. Well same story, it is still on my credit, I called and was simply asking the account # and balance he ask me if I was planning on paying this $2,000 account off in full today and I said well let me find out what it is for.. I went on to explain to him that last year I filed a dispute and that it was not my bill he then tells me that thats a domestic dispute and it was up to me to find the person and try to collect the debt.
How can I when I dont have a clue who this person was or where they are now? he at that time said you are wasting my time and refused to give me my account # I ask him if I needed to get an attorney to get the account# and he said you give me an attorny's name and I will call them for you.
I said no I was not going to do that, I just wanted the account info he hung up on me.I think that was extreamly rude for a person "trying" to get money. they have now changed the date on my date of last activity so now I will be harrassed for another 5 years by these people. I have filed a complaint with BBB along with "thousands" of others.
If you have had the same dealings with this company please follow through and complain, the more the better. Maybe we all can run them out eventually. If you know of anything I can do please help. How can this be legal?

Southwestern bell does not provide service in Jacksonville Ar. If the disputed bill's address is in Jacksonville you need to refer the trouble to century telephone.

The BBB is absolutely no help. Think about it, you report a problem with a business that is listed with them. The business is listed with them because the business pays to belong to their organization and be listed. To actually carry negative reports about a business listed with them is like your child telling you what he did wrong so you could punish him! Those businesses keep the BBB cash happy, and the BBB is not going to jeopardize their cash flow!
As far as the other problem, you have a legal right to demand the business provide you proof of the account, i.e., invoices, agreements you signed, something that justifies the outstanding debt. If they are unable to do that, that must be reported to the credit bureau who, by law, must remove the debt from your reports. Start pounding on the credit reporting agencies and, while it shouldn't have to be that way, you may need to hire a lawyer to get it done. Good luck!
