While traveling to Miami, FL on Feb 8, 2008 on American Airlines out of Chicago O'Hare. After going through security and check-in, after arriving at our hotel in Miami we discovered our brand new in-the-box underwater camera was no longer in the box. They were kind enough to leave the empty box however. The thieves also lifted a spare battery to another camera thinking they were getting the battery to the underwater camera. So this rip-off was in excess of $450.00, I reported the theft to American Airlines at 800-433-7300 and got a response of "the items you are claiming, unfortunately, American Airlines is not liable for them, we will not be able to reimburse you for them".

Next Time Carry Your Camera

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

The airlines have long told you that packing valuables, jewelry, cameras, etc in checked baggage is unwise. Back in the old days you could lock a bag and normally no one would open it. Now TSA can examine the contents as well as the airlines and your checked baggage is x-rayed which exhibits to the employee who screens it exactly what is in the bag. You should have followed the advice of the airline. Next time take valuables in a carry-on so that they are in your control at all times.
