Very strange. My cousin was scammed by this company, and they have a very good scam going. They advertise in Newspapers, and they promise that they can help people find a job in the airline field. When you call the phone number 202-973-4000, they have a recording (available in English and Spanish) The recording once agian confirms that they will guide you through the airline hiring process. But of course, you must send them $35.00 first. No checks, they accept money orders and check this out...they accept cash.

Guess what you get for your 35 bucks? Basic info on how to submit a resume and that is all. You can get your money back, but only if you get a refund confirmation number. Guess what there is no phone number to contact an actual person. So all we have is a P.O. BOX #, so I'm starting with the Postal Inspector. Update ya later.

Oh anyone else?

Attn: Seriously

When American Careers set up their first phone line it was in NYC.  That was where all of our "Career Counselors" were based.  I am actually based out of NYC as well.  As far as work goes all of my mail goes through Baltimore...this is the reason that I list my address is: 1220 Race St. #6399, Baltimore, MD 21230.  I can't quite understand what your point is "Seriously".  Many businesses have a main number that they give out as a way of communication.  I don't understand your point.  In the meantime, if I can be of assistance to you in meeting your career goals please don't hesitate to call me @ 718-690-7056.  I would be more than happy in assisting you with any questions related to a career in the airlines.

Sincerely,

Someone on here asked why American Careers wasn't in jail.  I have the perfect answer to that question.  They are a legitimate company that likes to help people who need the help...such as myself.  I had no idea of where to begin when I was looking for employment.  I came to this site and was sceptical of American Careers as well.  What is a small fee for the amount of help that they have given me?  I can tell you, nothing.  I am very satisfied with the help that I have obtained and you are one of the few that is unpleased, for what reason I don't quite understand because Joe has gone above and beyond to help me.

American Careers

AUTHOR: Dept Mgr. - ()

American Careers has been around for many years, helping customers to find the job of their dream.  I make it my practice to help in any way possible.  I want for our customers to succeed.  I believe that with effort all clients can obtain a position in their desired line of work with the airlines.  My co-workers and I are here to make that happen.  If you truly have a problem as a client please call me at 718-690-7056.  I will make sure that you get taken care of.  I look forward to working with all clients in the future and helping them to find a successful career with the airlines.

American Careers has tried to cooperate with the BBB doing everything that they have requested.  We have responded to every complaint and to every want that they have supplied us with.  American Careers has made this a practice since day one.  The BBB has made claims that American Careers doesn't fully disclose our practices.  This is false, our practices are fully disclosed on our website for the world to see.  We also lead all of our potiential clients to our website www.americancareers.us . If you are a potiential cleint and call us directly we will give you a full outline of what we do as well as point you back to our website if you haven't already visited the site.  We will continue to work with the BBB with responding to complaints, but can't base everything on things that they have posted without doing the proper research on our company.  We have let them know everything about us.  They chose a rating based upon the same consumers making the same complaints.

American Careers Is Here To Help

AUTHOR: Yvonne Foxworth - ()

Obiviously, American Careers has tried to cooperate with the BBB.  We respond to every complaint that we have.  We make it a point to try to make our consumers happy.  Yes, there are a pattern of complaints because the same people complain about the same thing, the BBB opens a new file each time that a compliant is made even if it is the same consumer that isn't satisified.  We understand the BBB's allegations and must say that they are incorrect in their findings.  We explain to each and every consumer what we do, and our policies are clearly listed on our website.  American Careers takes the needs of our consumers seriously, and would be more than happy to help any potiential client.  I can assure any applicant they they will have the highest quality help out there with obtaining employment.  We are by no means a scam and would very much like to speak with anyone that has any questions.

Sincerely,

Never, ever, send money to a job posting

AUTHOR: Philly - ()

I had hoped that by now everyone in the United States was thoroughly informed that you should never, ever, send money to a job listing!  This is job search 101!  Now if you are hiring this company to write your resume or cover letter, then sure, you should pay for that, however it should all be clearly deliniated in a sales contract what they are doing for you!

And no matter what, never, ever, pay for any service from a company you don't know with a money order!  Use PayPal or a credit card so you have some recourse in case it is a scam or ripoff!  Any company that refuses to deal with a credit card or PayPal should be immediately stricken off your list as too much risk!  I hope people listen to this common sense and not the siren song of a company shrill.  Good luck!

Well maybe on your ad you shouldn't make it seem as if this is strictly about openings to an or port career if it's about helping with resumes cover letters and how to have a successful interview. Can you clarify if you guys do work with specifically the airlines because I really want a job.

American Careers

AUTHOR: lwisecat - ()

I had this email from indeed.com that had this listing. Airlines now hiring for all positions with no experience necessary. Starting pay was $14 to $22 an hour with all kinds of benefits. They had a list of airports all in florida for you to choose which one you would like to work at.

There is a new address which is different from the ones I have seen here on Ripoff Report.. It is

American Careers

1220 Race Street

Room 6399

Baltimore, Maryland  21230

(443)898-9990

And they want you to send a money order for $39 ( not $35 so their fee must have gone up) do not send cash and they will not take personal checks MONEY ORDER ONLY!!!!

They say the $39 is refundable and guaranteed in writing and that they will guide you thru the application process. All this was a recording. I told my dad about this and he told me to google it> I found all this bad stuff about them on RipOff Report.

I also searched it on BBB and there was no such address. And the rating I found on American Careers was a D- and the report said they had no such dealings with any of the airlines. So needless to say I can thank my dad and yall for saving me $39, because I to am in need of a job.

It is very sad that people or companies can get away with this scamming people out of their hard earn money to here they are trying to keep their heads above water. Cant these people be stopped!!!!!!

If you work for the Federal Government are you writing on Rip Off Report instead of investingating the company?  I am a satified consumer of American Careers.  I have been personally helped by all of the information that I have been provided from my career counselor Kevin.  Please take a moment to get the facts.  You don't pay for a job and you don't pay the overhead to a job for a "Head Hunter/ Recruiter".  I am living breathing proof that this company does help.  I have a speeh problem, but am still well educated and smart enough to make my way through an interview.  I have obtained employment with the gracious help of American Careers.

Thanks!

American Careers is here to help!!

AUTHOR: yfoxworth - ()

Dear Honest,

My name is Yvonne Foxworth, I work for American Careers.  I am not sure of why you would post negative comments about American Careers without getting the full story of how we help people.  I would love to speak with you further about your concerns, a lot of them can eaisly be cleared up.

First, consumers can do a google search to find a job, the major question is are they going to know how to go about applying and getting a job.  That is where American Careers helps.  We prepare our applicants with loads of information to get them fully prepared, not only that we help them with writing their cover letter, we help them with their application, and with their thank you letter.  We have telephone support avaliable to all of our customers.  If you are working for the Federal Government then you know the companies out there that are scams and you know for certain that American Careers is not one of them.  American Careers has been in business helping our customers for over 20 years.  We strive for our clients to get jobs.  If we are unable to obtain employment for them, their processing fee is refundable.  I can't think of very many people this day in age that have any $ to give away.  I am glad that you do, although, if you were to work with American Careers you wouldn't be giving your money away and you would know what our company was about rather than writing on what you assume the case to be.

Hours upon hours of research by our career counselors isn't junk.  It is good solid information, used as a tool to prepare our clients for every step of the hiring process.  We would rather for our clients to get the extra 10K that they are going to give a "head hunter/ recruiter".  They should get that 50K for their hard work and effort not someone else.  We are helping them, and preparing them for every step of the interview process. If you would like more information "Honest", please call me.  God Bless!

Sincerely,

Yvonne Foxworth

You are incorrect about American Careers

AUTHOR: Yvonne Foxworth - ()

With the economy so bad... It is so sad that you are doing this, and ripping people off. Yes, the economy is bad, American Careers wants to help consumers to obtain employment.    I pray for you and hope that you stop doing what you are doing. American Careers prays that you will get the facts, we are here to do nothing more than to help our consumers to find the career of their dreams.  Our customers get a lot for the $39.00 fee, they have a career development guide, resume, cover letter, thank you letter help, they are guided to the airlines that are hiring. For everyone out there, do not send money to this place, they are not doing anything for you that you can't do for google search. Yes, some of the information is avaliable online, but you have to know where to look. Nor do they help you get a job. Yes, in fact we do help our consumers. They are people who are taking advantages of the situations that people are currently in. We are not the oil industry, we are not scammers, we provide a service that our consumers make a decision to purchase.  We don't promise a job, we promise guidance in obtaining career dreams. Just like the Oil industry, raising Gas prices.  Go to your Career One Stop in your state, and they provide you with free training if you need, a person to help with or  build your resume, and your own personal counselor that works for you. Our consumers can make their own decisions, we are here to help and if we are unable to help our customers to obtian employment the fee is refunable. I'm a retired veteran working for the federal goverenment, and because of everything going on, I decided to just prepare, and I ame across this site, and everything about this is a scam (scam should be in all caps). If American Careers were such a scam, we wouldn't be in business. I have 35 dollars easly to give away. Wow, then you don't need to look for employment, most of our consumers don't have 35 dollars to give away, they have families to feed and care about the money that they have worked hard to earn.  I would never expect any of our consumers to give us any amount of money.  We are here to help!  But this is a scam, and everything about it is. This is not a scam, you should get your facts straight!!! If you have done this, because the people who are saying they got help, are told, or being done by the people who are behind it. Hmm, have you ever thought that a company would be stupid to do something like that?  American Careers doesn't practice their business that way.  All consumer comments come from the consumer themselves. First you don't need a dummy address in DC, but work out of New York. American Careers doesn't have an address in DC at this time. This company is sending you junk, and you will do all the work, and the reason they send you junk is to meet the minuim requirements not to be considered fraud.  We send information because we want to help our consumers to get a job, we provide much more than just a career packet.  You would know, if you had purchased our services rather than talking of something that you knew nothing about.

Recruiters and Job hunters take a portion or percentage for asisting you in getting a job, some take it off the top, and some are getting it everytime you get paid.  For example you might be temp. worker making 40,000 but the temp. agency filled the position with you but the position acutally is getting paid 50,000.  The extra over what you agree they get, until you are no longer there or some still get it if you are offered the job permanently. We charge a flat one time fee, so that our consumers can make the most when going out into the job market, they deserve that extra 10K, not some head hunter.

This is a scam.  If you have questions about the validity of American Careers please call me, Yvonne Foxworth, at 718-690-7056.  I look forward to speaking with you and telling you what our company is about. Don't let them scam anyone else out of money. Please don't make assumptions based on opinion. The people they have scammed can't get their money back.  All of our customers can get their money back if they are unable to obtain employment, I don't know where you get your data and information from.  BUT you CAN KEEP YOURS. Yes, everyone can keep their money, American Careers is here for those that want help and want to work in the Airline industry.  I look forward to working with whoever wants the assistance of American Careers.

American Careers is here to help you.

AUTHOR: Yvonne Foxworth - (United States of America)

OK folks, please let me try to shed a little light on this thread.

First off, my name is Yvonne Foxworth. I'm a Career Counselor at American Careers (NYC offices).  For the doubters out there, I must say sorry for any confusion or misconceptions about us, but we certainly are NOT a scam. I've been here for 6 yrs. Indeed, I'm very happy with the results I have personally obtained from the many Applicants I've assisted to gain employment at various airports/airlines across the USA. Success stories with many different types of Positions, at varying pay rates, anywhere from $14 to $22 / hour.

Regarding our Service, we simply assist Applicants obtain employment through the information that we email/mail them to get them started with the Application Process. We then follow up with phone support via our Career Counselors to assist them in every aspect of the Application Process (Application, Resume, Cover Letters, Thank You Letters, Interviewing Techniques, etc) through our Airline Career Development Guide & our Airline Hiring Update, which includes current listings of Airline Positions & descriptions which the Applicant may then apply for at various Airlines. We will attempt to obtain as many interviews for the Applicant as we possibly can. The $39 one-time fee we charge is refundable in the event we are unable to obtain employment
for the Applicant. Details are included in the paperwork the Applicant receives.

This is a vast amount of information & assistance which may potentially require many hours to perform individually. This Service
will soon be available to Applicants via a new website now under construction:

http://www.ripoffreport.com/www.AmericanCareersJobs.com

We have many success stories here with regard to Applicants who have taken the time & effort to read / follow the instructions
listed in our Program, and have indeed obtained employment at various Airports across the USA. Obtaining employment takes time and effort.  If Applicants are not willing to follow instructions or contact us for help, we can't possibly assist in those efforts. I will gladly personally assist anyone out there in their efforts to obtain employment. Please feel free to view our BBB review in MD.

AUTHOR: Madeline - (United States of America)

I am not sure of what the person above is talking about.  American Careers doesn't ask for cash, and they don't do anything in Spanish, and one added note, they do have a phone number in which to contact them.  Oh yeah, and they aren't a scam.  They helped me to obtain employment.  I used their program and am very satisfied.

You could pay the $35

AUTHOR: brownin329 - (United States of America)

Or...you could just apply directly to the airports you want for free.

I am glad that there is a site like this because I was about to apply but when I heard the voice message on the number I called I immediately sensed it was a scam and did some research. I sensed it was a scam because they said you could send cash. That does not sound legit. I'd report it to the BBB of your state if you were scammed.

I have used American Careers

AUTHOR: GotIt - (United States of America)

What is your definition of a scam?  Mine is when I pay for a product and don't get anything from a company or a service.  I see so many people on here complaining, yet have any one of you ever called the phone number?  Have anyone of you actually listened to what you are getting?  I did, and I have been very pleased with my purchase.  I called the phone line and sent in my money order for $35.00.  I  called 411 to get the phone number for American Careers so that I could speak with a representative, to see if they got my information and money.  I was told that they would check and call me back.  They called me back within a couple of days and said that they had my information and that they would be sending out some information to me within a few days.  I got the information 4 days later.  I sat down and read the packet that they sent me and called a representative (Kevin).  He helped me with knowing that I should set my sites on.  I had a lot of help from the services of American Careers.  You know, they didn't promise me a job, they said that they would guide me to finding a job.  This is not a scam.  Work hard, and you can find a job just like I did.

Ultimately, I think that if you are crazy enough to believe that you can get a job for $35.00 then you need to have a reality check.  If you listen, follow directions, and work hard you can accomplish anything.  People whine scam, because they don't want to work, they don't want to read, they don't want to call and take the time and effort that is really needed in getting a job.

Maybe be a good idea if they are in fact criminals.  It would be nice if i live person answered and it's sketchy they don't and the money up front thing is sketchy since thats usually a bad sign. I wish someone would investigate this more and get them to stop if there up to no good!

I went with American Careers

AUTHOR: Alanna777 - (United States of America)

I have had tremendous help from American Careers.  I was skeptical about the whole process of calling a phone number and sending in money.  I mean without a job $35.00 is a lot of money.  I figured since I was protected by sending in a money order because I have the power to change my mind.  I sent my money in to 2020 Pennsylvania Ave, NW Room # 348 Washington, DC 20006.  I waited for about a week and a half and then I got a package in the mail.  I read through the package and called the number that they left for me.  I spoke with a guy named Kevin.  He was very helpful, he told me the airlines that I needed to look into to find a job.  I even found out that he had worked for the airlines....so this guy knows what he is talking about.  He followed through with everything that he told me.  I now have a job at Laguardia working for United Airlines.  I get nice benefits as well as breaks with my job.  I know what a scam is and this company isn't one.  So, unless you have tried this service as I have don't say what you don't know!

American Careers, Inc

AUTHOR: btoscar1 - (United States of America)

It is so sad and shameful that people set out to take advantage of those who are struggling and trying to keep their heads above water. Some people are desperate enough to try this out because the need is so great. But even in that you must have common sense and trust your instincts if something feels wrong to you. If it seems too good to be true then it usually is. Research what scams are and how they operate so you won't be taken advantage of and taken for the money that you do have. This is the address that I have for American Careers, Inc 2020 Pennsylvania Ave, NW,#348 Washington DC 20006. Phone # 202-973-4000. A Norman Peterson was named as the HR Manager. Post ID # 2763199161. Just like the others who have stated here I just received an automated recording with instructions on how to get this hiring process started and the cost of $35 to get the process started.

Stop the Lies!

AUTHOR: Solow - (United States of America)

You must have been put up to posting this bullsh!t by American Careers.  First, you said you found a job through them and if that was true, why would need to come to ripoffreport?  Second, you didn't speak to anyone named Brian because there are NO live agents on any of the phone numbers they provide.  Now, take your sorry azz back home and STFU and find somewhere else to post your lies.

Get the facts.

AUTHOR: Callie - (United States of America)

Hello all my name is Callie.  I have been searching for a job for over a year.  I am well educated and have been down on my luck since getting laid off.  I worked with an unemployment agency who directed me to American Careers.  I called their number and listened to their message.  I haven't had success with any other avenue so I thought that I would give this company a try.  I sent my $35 money order in and got a packet.  I got a lot of helpful pointers on what airlines were hiring and how to go about getting prepared for the interview.  I read all of the information that was supplied for me and still had more questions so I called the number that American Careers provided for me.  I spoke with a man named Brian.  He was very helpful in helping me to apply to the airlines of my choice and helped me to prepare for the interview.  I am now working full time for Delta Airlines and could not be happier with my decision to take a chance with $35 dollars.  Not everyone out there is a rip off.  I hope that people will get their facts straight so that people like me can continue to find the help that we need.

Additional Comment

AUTHOR: RS - (United States of America)

I always hit *67 before calling a number like that.  Many times there is a caller information capture program on that type of line.  In other words, you may end up on a call list just by calling the number.  This one has SCAM written all over...which I THINK is what Rose was trying to say.  BTW, Rose, perhaps you could find a job a bit more easily if you learned to type in understandable English and maybe even tried Punctuation.  Just a thought.
