It should be USURY Express not American Express
The following letter is an example of how AE rips-off their clients. In the past year I have been late on zero payments.

Dear Am EX re: card number ...2006
Today I paid my July bill of $1019.47 sixteen days late.
Therefore you saw fit to charge me an extra:
late fee $39, 3.8% per month or 46% per year (APR)
interest fee $25.39, 2.5% per month or 30% per year (APR)
total fee $64.39, 4.3% per month or 76% per year (APR)
Evidently the usury laws (lending of money at exorbitant interest rates) don't apply to you.
So that you won't feel cheated I already made my final payment for August of $870.47. This payment does not include the usury charges or my earned rebate of $35.51 (even though you wanted to reduce that also).
If you want your rebate rebated or you usury charges paid, send to me a letter in less than 10 (ten) business days justifying your charges.
This type of business practice does not seem to be very American. I suggest you remove the word AMERICAN from your name. May be USURY Express.
To anyone else reading this letter please BEWARE of American Express.

So, you openly admit on being 16 days late on a payment and you don't expect to pay a late fee or additional interest? People like you are exactly the reason fees and interest rates are as high as they are and is partly to blame for what got this country into the depression that it is in! YOU broke the terms of your contract by paying 16 days late, not them. Their terms are clearly indicated in the application you completed in order to obtain the card. It's not their fault you didn't read them and/or understand them! I have had an AmEx Business Centurion Card for over 5 years and have paid $0.00 in late fees/interest... Prior to that, I was a Business Platinum Card holder for over 10 years and paid $0.00 in late fees/interest... Why, because I paid my bill on time! Sorry, but I have no sympathy for you and I wish they wouldn't have balked and decided not to charge you the late fee/interest!!!

"Since you have maintained good payment history with American Express, I have issued the credit for the late fees and finance charge in the amounts of $39.00 and $25.39 to your account. The credit will appear on your upcoming statement.

I hate AmEx! I have been working part time from home so I could care for a family member with cancer. I was offered a chance to do some consulting work (from home) but needed a better computer to handle the large files I was working with. My AmEx gives 1% cash back, so I wanted to use it, but I didn't have sufficient funds left on my credit line. I called them, explained that I wanted to transfer my last $1000 from my AmEx savings account (where the rebate goes) to my charge account so that I could purchase the computer. No problem. They were happy to take my money. After ensuring I had sufficient credit available to buy the computer I went to Best Buy. This was only a few hours later. Got to BB and my purchase was denied for insufficient credit. I called AmEx on the spot, and they're like, "Yes, we credited the payment and then decreased your credit line by $1000". WTF??? Well, I couldn't do the work I was contracted to do, and now have no money left in savings. I might add that I was never late on a payment, never exceeded my credit line, and always paid more than the minimum amount due.
