Corporate Advocacy Program™
Last month, we called our air conditioning service person who said that we needed a new coil as the present one was leaking. AHS sent a representative who confirmed the need for a new coil and said he was ordering the part. After five weeks, four calls to the AHS representative with no response, we finally called AHS and were told that the claim was denied the day after the AHS rep was at our home.
The AHS story is that the coil leaked because of improper "past maintaince" and that there was no coverage under the policy. How we or anyone would ever know of "perported" past improper coil maintainance when we purchased the home is hard to determine, but suffice it to say, our contractor disagrees. Notwithstanding this AHS told us today, case closed, no recourse, claim denied.
Several things are apparent about AHS.
1. There is a concerted effort if not policy to reject claims on there face.
2. If a claim is questioned, the customer service is "intended" to frustrate the customer into submission.
3. The warrantly policy is patently fraudulent and intended to misrepresent the "true" coverages with fine print and lack of clear understandable definitions.
4. Policies sold through realtors lead home buyers to believe that coverages are significantly broader that the "fine print" details.
5. The exculpatory language in the policy is cleary intended to obfiscate and give almost total latitude to reject claims that homeowners thought were covered by the policy.
It is intentionally misleading and unclear to even trained professionals.
6. Realtors endorsing or making this product available to consuners rarely give sufficient detail about coverages and AHS claims policy.
I am speaking to Class Action attorneys presently. If you wish to join in such an action, please contact me through this site

I have found it is important to understand what your company covers. I was once covered by AHS jand had the same kind of run around. There are several things to remember.
1. Home warranties are not 'after the fact' coverage. It would not be fair to expect a company to cover somthing that is already broken or about to break. Some companies simply just look for any excuseand unfairly classify items as pre-existing.
2. Before you buy a home warranty, read the terms and conditions. Understand what is covered. But also understand what you can do to cancel. Some companies trap you into their warranties. AHS is one.
3. The procedure used by many companies, where you pay the servicer a service fee up front is just a problem waiting to happen. The home warranty company contracts with a shoddy service technician, who then comes to your home when he is in the neighborhood, collects his fee, takes five minutes to look at the problem and files a report with AHS that causes the claim to be denied. The tech keeps his $45 fee for ten minutes worth of work, AHS gets out of the claim and pays nothing out of pocket.
If I need service under my current home warranty company, I pay them a $45 service fee. They are then responsible to send out a reputable service provider and complete the service. I always verify that the service company they are sending is certified to work on the piece of equipment I need to have repaired. It has worked very well for me and I am satisfied.
Make sure you understand what is covered and what the service procedure is before purchasing. Also make sure you understand the cancellation procedures. I had to wait until my contract was over with AHS. When I received my renewal offer from them, I shopped around and found my current company and have been very satisfied.

They made a list of recommendations that we agreed for them to do. After several things were changed or worked on it still wasn't cooling enough in the rental. Every time we called AHS & they sent a repair person out there was a new list of recommendations. Some of the things that were done in accordance to the experts(1) rearranged the air flow inside the hallway by moving the ducts. NO dfference.(2) recommended that a digital temperature control in the inside hall way would improve the actual inside temperature. No differencem (3) another recommendation, we needed to have insulation in the roof of the house. No difference
(4) you need a exhaust fan outside on the roof of the house. no difference
all of these things were done at our cost. at the end, the renters moved out.
it seems that AHS has control of the contractors, by denying service that is suppose to help, in this process the AHS agents will not answer your questions directly because they do not have, it seems that their thougt process is robtic and sure that the probelm exist in our heads only. our request are numb and cold and we are at fault. nice way to make a profit.
the no service provider (AHS) does not care if your refrigerator or what ever the situation is ,that we will survive by the agents saying to us at times, well honey you will be ok, you know i had a similar problem back in the old days. my next question to the agent answering the phone is what is your name, and may i speak to your supervisor. Answer my name is not revelant and the superviosr is not here. have a good-day and click.

Now I am being told that the part was ordered and can't be returned so the cashout option is no longer available so know I am left only to accept the fact that I have having paid years of premiums to AHS for nothing. AHS is requiring that I, 1. disregard the fact that the company took 1 month to call in the result of their Service visit and authorizations for repairs, 2.accept lie that company told to AHS about the cause of the damage to my microwave, 3. accept AHS's denial of the dispute of that damage, 4. accept the denial of a cashout which was originally offered up by an AHS manager because the part was ordered after the request for cashout was made and the vendor can not return the part. What a bunch of you know what.
The first line customer service reps are rude and incompetent; and they have no regard for the customer, who make it possible for them to even have a job.
AHS does not have any respect or regard for the customer or customer satisfaction. It is all about the dollar bill.
I too am considering legal action. If anyone has already started class action proceedings I would love to be included.

Bee kool air came out and said that the same thing was wrong with it as was the 1st time I called. they fixed it again and low and behold 29 days later it was broke again. I called that day knowing I wouldn't be charged. So bee kool air came back out and went to turn off my breaker and was rather ignorant when shutting off my main breaker and said it sparked and they would not do anything until I called PG&E and I did they came out fixed the problem and I called ahs back and they said that bee kool refused to come back until an electrician came to inspect. So an electrician came out and gave the all clear.
Bee kool then came back and said oh you need a new compressor and sent in a request to ahs and in turn ahs ordered the part and sent it to a completely different company. so last week I decided I woud call everyday until it was done to my surprise(not really)ahs had made so many mistakes. I finally got bee kool out here 2 days ago. but they left leaving everything opened and laying out.
I called and they said they would be out the next day (today)because they had to put a sealant that needed to dry for 24 hours. Today I called again because no one had showed they then changed the drying time miraculously to 48 hours. We will see if they show. I did get several calls from ahs asking how my service WAS but only an emailed complaint was sent out stating I was to be seeking out others for a class action lawsuit against them.
Please if a class action against ahs is filed i would like very much to be included.

Please count me in on the class law suit. AHS has been trying to repair my 20 yr. old heat pump unit from 6/05. I had no heat throughout most of the winter, and now no AC throughout the summer. Numerous technicians from various companies had come at least twice a month to repair the heat pump/ac unit, and none of them have been able to repair the unit.
Also, 2 electricians recommended replacing , but AHS will not approve the replacement.
I already reported them to the BBB,and to the Dept. of Consumer Protection.
I am still hoping they will replace the unit, but now I am hopeless.
Class lawsuit is the way to go.
I have a file of over 10 repair technicians, it's ridiculous.

American Home Shield un-American!!
AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Friday, June 02, 2006
AHS will pay me only $577 to get mine replaced, one cannot even get a window unit for that amount.
They told me that that's the wholesale amount they pay to buy volumes of the condenser, I thought all AHS do is sell policies to unsuspecting home-owners and than contract any repair to third-parties that are getting paid minimal for the job.
Larry, AHS needs to be stopped, count me in in your persuit.
AHS is very un-American and will not shield you when you need them!!

American Home Shield Denied My Claim
AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Friday, July 15, 2005
I checked the specifics of my contract with AHS and saw that plumbing was covered, so I contacted AHS and they sent someone out to examine my plumbing leaks. The plumber determined that my pipes were leaking due to a bad remodeling job. He said that there was inadequate support for my bathroom floor and that floor joists that support my floor were cut away to accommodate the drain for my washing machine upstairs when it was installed prior to my purchasing the condo.
As a result, my bathroom floor had sagged causing my pipes to crack and leak, and therefore my repairs were not covered by AHS. He called AHS then and there and reported this to them over the phone, and the AHS rep on the phone told me that my request for repairs was denied. I was not supplied with a written report stating any of this, nor was I supplied a receipt for my service fee which the plumber gladly accepted. Subsequent to this, I hired my own plumber to investigate all of this.
He told me that the first plumber was completely wrong in his assessment as to why my pipes were leaking and he said that the cause of my plumbing problems was due to normal wear and tear and the age of my pipes - 51 years old. He also told me that he used to work for AHS and that they will do everything they can to deny claims and get out of paying for any repairs. This is the reason that he quit working with them. AHS is a fraudulent company and must be stopped!

Please contact me regarding your class action suit against AHS.....I will be writing my letter as well to prove to everyone that this company is a fraud...I was without A/C for a month and then kept me calling and calling and I was about to scream... I have had it and now after taking to several customer service reps and floor managers (what a joke) they called me 3 hours after a new outside unit was put in and told me I did not have authorization for that and it was not covered. The representative called them when he arrived at my home and they said go ahead and put it in...3 hours later they left a message like that......I have names, numbers and countless hours on the phone with them and still fighting...
Let me know asap and I believe we should all contact our consumer advocates in our States and put them on the news and the Attorney Generals office ASAP....

What I am reading here scares the heck out of me. I am currently into my second week of attempting to get my heating unit fixed/replaced and have been encountering all the same items you have (except the fact that the representatives have been fairly professional). While I will continue my efforts with them, I am also preparing of engaging the Better Business Bureau associated with AHS' Memphis, TN Headquarters' location.
I am not sure home many of you have already engaged them but if you have not already done so, it would be a good idea to do that also. It is important to get all the reports on record there (also) to make sure AHS does not maintain a Satisfactory rating.
Wish me luck with my current activity. I am sure (unfortunately) that I will be joining your cause soon enough.

AHS Also Denied by A/C Claim
AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, November 11, 2004
I purchased a home 2 1/2 years ago. All applicances and systems passed inspection, and I received an AHS policy at closing. My A/C stopped working last week. AHS determined that the 20-year old unit needs to be replaced, but denied my claim because they said the unit has not been "properly maintained." Their insurance policy is clearly misleading and their business practices dishonest. Contact me through this site if you pursue the class action suit.

HomeShield continues to Rip Off
AUTHOR: Kellie - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, November 02, 2004
The first plumber stated that because it was HMS they could not repair/replace the tank he would call someone else.
When the other plumber finally came he said that yes, I needed a new hot water tank but that in addition to the HMS service fee I needed to pay
143.00 for a pipe and to have the tank pipe attached to the chimmeny. I nearly choked. I said Why is that not covered. He stated that I would have to ask HMS. So I told him I would buy the pipe myself and how much would it cost me for him to screw the pipe on the tank and attach it to the chimmeny. He said he did not know because he never did that. He guessed about 45.00 dollars. I went to Home Depot and puchased the pipes the cost of both pipes were only $2.10 for the both of them.
Needless to say he charged me 45.00 to screw the one pipe into the tank and to cement the flute pipe in.
What a RIP OFF>
