I replied to the email, and recieved a call at approx. 7pm last night, from a woman who asked me some basic questions about my experience. She then invited me to come for a formal interview today (Mar 10) in their Burnaby office.
To their credit, they did have a nice office, and the people who worked there all seemed alright.
I arrived at the interview and was asked to fill in an application that asked for some information as well as work history (which was also on my resume). A few minutes later, I was met by the same woman who had called me, and went into a nice looking office, that happened to have a Dell laptop in the middle of the table, almost in the way.
She asked some more general information about my work history and education, and showed some interest. She described the company and said there would be some travelling involved, as well as some training, that I would have to pay for, which would ad up to approx. $800.
After the interview, I had to fill out another questionnaire (approx. 5 pages).

POSTED: Tuesday, January 03, 2012While I was sitting waiting for my interview a guy then a girl then another guy came in all wearing well groomed clothes. Were we ALL applying for the same job? I asked the guy on my left if he was in the construction trade and he said he was in manufacturing..
When another fellow asked the receptionist how long the interview was she said it was fairly short but the group interview was a couple of hours. They also said to bring a recent resume with me yet I had just sent them one thru email which is where they were reading my contact info from to call me.That was all I needed to hear, I left. They are pulling the same crap mentioned in these posts and doing it in Eugene,Oregon.
What amuses me about this is I looked like the dumbest guy in the room cause I wasn't in a suit yet turns out I was the smartest guy in the room cause I was the only one that googled the company first.

POSTED: Thursday, March 23, 2006My thoughts were, I am in a middle management role, in a job that I like, but if I am being recruited, why not hear at least a little about what they were all about.
They on the message they left they were very interested in my resume, and wanted me in for an interview. I said at that point I might be available, and would call them back.
Then I went into my email and found this
"My name is Roger Smith and I am the Chief Executive Officer of American Income. I recently found your resume online and wanted to get in touch with you. We are expanding our sales force by hiring applicants from a
variety of different backgrounds and we believe you have the potential to be an excellent match.
We are hiring goal-oriented individuals like you right now. First year earnings, advances and bonuses can range from $60,000 to $90,000 for
new representatives. No experience is necessary. We provide full training
to help maximize your earning potential. If you wish to excel within a company that has a proven record of success, then I would like to speak with you.

"
Now, I am sure that Roger did not find my resume, nor did he or anyone else really look at my resume. Now looking at one of the major job sites, the classifications included food services. Well, with a spam e-mail coming two days before the call, the words posted here, and knowing if something sounds too good to be true it probably is, I called Melissa Back and said no thanks....... Then again I am sure that the resume that she was so interested in it seemed that she did not care too much that I said that I would not be interested in applying

Try to collect unemployment and you'll find out. Second,if I am still "employed" with AIL, I surely wouldn't want anyone at my office to know I was in here for any reason. You are a Rip Off Report legend and I'm sure many in your office know it. Do I hear chuckling? But wait - we all love you!

POSTED: Tuesday, March 21, 2006If you are a current employee, why did you write "ex-employee"? Why didn't you just write "employee" and come up with an alias? Although, I am thinking "Been" is one. I'm not trying to sound mean. Please don't take it as such. I'm only inquiring.
And yes you are right, I have never worked for another company. I do however know others in the company, have heard about agents being like used car salesmen, and know the statistics. We, as insurance agents as a whole, are ranked #3 in the most untrustworthy kind of business/people. I don't need to have worked for another company to know that.

POSTED: Tuesday, March 21, 2006About the car, I am not that stupid. I bought a $1000 car to drive around and put all the miles I could on it. I would not use my own car, I have a Corvette! who would buy insurance from a guy driving a classic Vette?
About taxes, well the boogie man did not get me either, I was doing good at AIL. My stay at AIL was not unpleasant when I was allowed to do my business on the field....but the meetings, and this and that blew it for me, so I came to this forum and realized Tim's experience and I saw myself like that down the road, so I put a stop to it.
Been, I do not try to put words in your mouth, nor attack you but you lead me to believe you are just not the friendliest guy in this forum, eventhough people have been. I send you a big Canadian greeting either way to cheer you up, ey!
Hey Barb, well congrats once more. As I said, maybe it was my SGA,

You must still keep in contact with some of the people in the office if you are aware that I'm getting married. And yes Frank. I used to model. More a couple years ago than I do now. I still do occasionally, when I have time. And you are right, sales does have a lot to do with looks too. I've never considered myself to be "very attractive". But thanks Been.
And also, yes Been, I would admit that I have a big mouth and I can be a b***h when called for. I can hang with the "Boys Club".

SUBMITTED: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
POSTED: Monday, March 20, 2006When I quit AIL, I felt like I left things half-done, but by reading Tim I was like :"WTF?? it is not worth at all to undergo one second more of that! " Thanks Tim!
It is funny how people in this forum mentioned their SGAs or MGAs told them to watch or read The Boiler Room, and other material like that, because that is VERBATIM was I was told by mine!!! then, I noticed that I was being brainwashed, that if I did not work 6 days a week I was a wimp, and that 65 year olders, single moms and mobile home residents always purchase insurance.....have you heard that before??
Anyway, by popular request, lets talk about Barb.
First of all, thanks Barb, I am respectful to you because you are respectful to me. Second, congratulations if you are getting married, and third, were you really a model? You should paste a picture here :) Now I know why you are very succesful at this business, those 65 year olds always buy insurance from you I bet( I am just kidding )
Anyway, I believe as long as Barb keeps things honest, there is nothing she should worry about. There is nothing wrong when the people are making an informed decision.
As Been said, AIL sucks the life out of its agents, SGAs and MGAs twist the truth and the lead system is shameful, in my case it is nothing personal against Barb. I actually bought couple of AIL policies for myself back when.
Barb what can I say? if you enjoy your job, and you do it with integrity you should not get ashamed or upset, you are making an God honest living. What's wrong with that? I am just a happy ol' crow that enjoys this forum.

POSTED: Sunday, March 19, 2006new leads initially - possibly crap leads thereafter.
Making enough $ to afford nice wheels - driving the wheels off of your car.
An opportunity to make $ - possibly questionable hiring tactics.
Possibly crap products - they must pass every states dept. of insurance guidlines so the buyer must beware.
Renewals - no doubt - the fact that the SGA in some way controls the flow - no doubt, hope you're working for a good one.
Mafia tactics? If you're dumb enough to slander people worth millions, and use the word Mafia, then you haven't done your homework. Signing your name? Hope you have a good lawyer that works for free. I feel for you - really.
Does Barb(ie) have a big mouth? possibly but if you asked her if she did,she would probably agree.
Keep these blogs coming as we love to hear the rantings of children like Moby and wise old sages like Frank and the screaming (all caps) defense from Barb(ie). It makes us smile and laugh.

POSTED: Thursday, March 16, 2006I dont feel that it is necessary to speak of the obvious BS about AIL since any sane person knows the company is a big scam. (obviously this voids that miserable Barbara with no life or education). I cant wait for her rebuttal about how smart SHE thinks she is...joy.
I would like to point out that AIL sells a product that they dont like to tell people is actually insurance. They go to the Union members home with free "BENEFITS" when the member only gets some worthless papers...the idea is to get in the home and get them to buy awful priced life inurance. This is a deceptive advertising insurance act...an unfair marketing practice...on the phone we were told to say we werent selling anything, especially not insurance. This is also false advertising and misrepresentation...dont forget when we sell the product we had to call it "Funeral Benefits," but never say life insurance...
As a suggestion to all of you losers who sold your souls long ago, a wise tip is: consider purchasing a big E&O policy for personal liability--as your favorite company AIL doesnt have any on you. Good luck with that ;)
Point of my rebuttal: I WANT TO KNOW WHY THE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER HAS NOT SHUT THIS COMPANY DOWN? PEOPLE ARE BEING SCAMMED, LOSING MONEY, AND BEING SOLD INTO A TOTAL JOKE. HELLO?! WHAT DOES IT TAKE COMMISSIONER?! thats all. thanks.
