NOW TO THE ORIGINAL REPORT THAT WAS FILED

NOTICE: *UPDATE December 1, 2006. Rip-off Report recently discovered that all but 2 Rip-off Reports about The David Zophin Agency of American Income Life were posted by the same person. A competitor no doubt. Rip-off Report has the evidence that shows the same person filed every one of the Reports. Ripoff Report will go after anyone found posting Reports like this. This type of behavior will not be tolerated. Either way, The David Zophin Agency still stands by their comitments made to Rip-off Report. Just like people can file ridiculous and frivolous lawsuits every day, we do realize consumers might try and take advantage using the Internet / Rip-off Report to do the same thing. THE REPORT BELOW IS BOGUS!
=============================
Finding a job right out of college can be a frustrating venture. You don't hear back from many companies and when you do, the pay is embarrassing for both parties. When a large company offers you, "$45,000 easily your first year," you take notice. It may be naive, but sometimes too good to pass up.
Well, I did that. I was recruited by American Income Life Insurance. They made so many promises. They warned me, the training was unpaid, 30 days, and I had to commute 104 miles, each way, for the duration. I agreed. I did this based on the fact that when the woman who hired me asked, "What do you expect to make a year in five years?" I answered "$45,000." She laughed and told me "Our worst agents make that."
I have copies of my pay checks. I did not make any where near $800 a week. I did what they wanted me to, what they said I had to do, and my commission based salary was at times $50 or $60 dollars for an 80 hour work week.
The driving killed my car. The company did not even contact me to discuss my situation. They simply figured no car, she is done. Why would they do that? Go through all the trouble of recruiting me and not care when I was in a terrible situation?
My overflow account. Anyone who has sold insurance knows about this. My supervisors, the entire PYRAMID, gets a piece of if. I will not see any. I worked for this company for over two months, not including training, and made less than $1,600, before taxes. Yes, 80 hour work weeks. I should have, been making that in two weeks.
I paid to travel to this place for a month. I paid for my gas, food and at times, when I had to train in the field, 200 miles from my house, lodging. I had to purchase clothes that I will never wear again, a briefcase (how ironic it's called a briefcase) and office supplies. They didn't pay for anything. I drained my account based on a promise, I would be making tons of money. All I had to do is follow their method.
I followed their method.
I did what they said.
I was set back at least $3000 for my trouble.
I am a college educated woman with four years of active duty in the military. I know I can't get my money back. All I can do, is this, warn people: DON'T WORK FOR AMERICAN INCOME LIFE. THEY DON'T CARE IF YOU DO OR DON'T. This company will use you for all they can get out of you. They will waste your time and money.
Please head my warning. I beg of you. I don't want to see good people make the same mistake I did. They will say whatever it takes to get you in, and you will have a good week early on. After that, you are done as far as they are concerned.
I also signed a contract and will not be surprised if I get sued. I don't care. I would rather go to jail then see others make the same mistake I did. I really am a fool.

Is everyone who works for companies such as these in these situations? Hardly. There are those that conduct themselves with honesty and candor while making very good money.
But beware of a recruiting machine for there are reasons that a company operates that way. There is a reason that there are so many blogs posted in here. Most tell the same story.

POSTED: Thursday, May 25, 2006Yes they are deceiving in their product as well.
This is where I sum it up:
You selling Kirby vs you selling AIL products:
Kirby, old leads or cold calling-AIL, old leads or cold calling.
Kirby, the promise of a 'free gift' for a demonstration-AIL, the promise of free insurance entitled to labor members (THAT THEY ALREADY GET REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT AIL IS INVOLVED).
Kirby, 16 pages of memorized BS fitted with enough yesses and head nodding to hopefully hynotize your glazed over victom into saying yes that final time with a nod (while twitching)-AIL, ditto.
Kirby, overpriced shiny thing that you could buy somewhere else for half the price and with a lot less guilt oh but look at how economical it is and good for your health! - AIL, overpriced shiny thing that you could buy somewhere else with a lot less guilt oh but look, by us wasting your time you get to donate your food to homeless people and get some crappy benefits for your health.
Kirby, annoying salesman who pushes and pushes you unethically until you buy out of sheer desperation to get him the F&$K out of your house-AIL, annoying salesman who pushes and pushes you unethically until you buy out of sheer hatred for the man/woman only to cancel once they leave.
In conclusion-Selling AIL is virtually the same as selling Kirby with a lot more bells and whistles thrown in to confuse the masses. Money can be made, yes as with anything but you need to have a lot of your own money upfront and little to no regard for human emotion. The survivors are very good at what they do, not actually sell but con well. Too bad their product isn't enough to sustain once the butterflies and peyote wears off. It's kind of like a psychic hotline..even though the majority of us knows better, they still have their flock.

He then said that he had a letter that stated I had misrepresented a flexguard policy as major medical and if I didn't send him a check for the full amount that he would turn me over to the Ohio Department of Insurance. He refused to fax me the letter and I had never misrepresented anything. I contacted the person that supposedly said I had misled and she gladly sent me a letter stating otherwise. I then e-mailed him asking for a copy of the letter before I submitted the check. I was hoping to get proof of his attempted blackmail for my attorney. He must have realized I was on to him because I haven't heard from him since and have not been informed of any complaints filed with the ODI.

POSTED: Friday, April 14, 2006It is interesting the blogs on both sides as even you have said you enjoyed your time with AIL until the office politics got the better of you. For some it was the obvious lack of integrity in the day to day activities. For some it was the backwards progression in income as they destoyed their car. For some it was never seeing their families and when you combine that with financial problems - do I need to go on?
You can make money at AIL as you can with any insurance company. You can make money Pimping - selling drugs - committing crimes - or you can do it honestly. There are several references to "being able to look myself in the mirror" - go back from the beggining of this thread and it is a human study in progress. Fascinating to me!

Pimp results come from Pimp managment
AUTHOR: Been - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Friday, April 07, 2006The reality is there are negative connotations about this business but it comes soley from your management.Pimping offers a great business opportunity for those that truly understand what it takes to be in business. I make this statement because my people get paid what I feel they are worth, not what they feel they deserve. I make some serious scratch and all the ladies all want to a part of my posse. My ride is paid for (2006 Hummer yall!) and I just put on 20" spinners - yes my minds on my money and my moneys on my mind.
I take care of my clients and my ladies because this is my business.Unfortunately not everyone is taught the right way to do this business. The right clothes to wear, the right ladies to attract. The right clients to serve. Lord help you if you prospect in the wrong neighborhood.
As far as this being a pyramid scheme the closest I got to pyramid was Pyramid Dr and South Main, one of my best corners. The difference in this business if you try to rise above your boss, well let's just say - no we better not.
Fact is I have 2 ladies that are now a part of someone elses posse and I don't gain financially from them one bit. I get tremendous pleasure from seeing those take what I have taught them and reach levels they didn't think were possible. am just glad to see them move up and on. We won't talk about the STDs. Serves the chump right.
So if you understand you are a business owner and not an amployee, you will see the results I have experienced.Yous comments will be appreciated and any correlation between my business and certain insurance companies is purely unintentional.

American Income: Poor Reults Come From Management
AUTHOR: Timothy - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Wednesday, April 05, 2006The reality is that there are negative environments around the country, but it comes SOLEY from the management. American Income offers a great business opportunity for those who understand what it truly takes to be a business owner. I make this statement because people get paid what they are worth, not what they feel they deserve. I have made over $100K a year for several years and have renewals coming in consistently, but that is because I treat this as my own business. I take care of my clients and take care of those I work with. Unfortunately not all new agents are taught this by everyone in the company and for those of you out there who have experienced a negative situation with AIL I apologize. But be honest with the situation and realize that it was the result of the management you were working under and not the company itself.
In response to the company being a "pyramid scheme", if you understand where pyramids come from, they all come from the insurance industry. The difference with an insurance company and a pyramid is that in a pyramid you can never rise above your boss, while in an insurance company you can. This is a fact as I have 2 gentlemen that I hired as rookie agents and now only 5 years later, both of them have become the SGA's in New York. I do not get ANY benefit from their growth financially, but I get tremendous pleasure in seeing those who take what I have taught them and reach levels they did not believe possible. So if you are taught the business properly and understand that you are a business owner and not an employee, you will see the results I have experienced. But if you wait for things to happen, you will end up like others on this board that simply complains because they were not truly willing to do what it takes to be successful. I look forward to any comments.

AUTHOR: Phil - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Wednesday, April 05, 2006As far as becoming a VP in the company is concerned...that is just a title. Captive Insurance agencies like AIL, Primerica, NY life, title mean nothing except that they make you feel like you made it. But in reality all it means is that you have worked here for a year or more, you climbed a couple of notched in the pyrimid, now you want to hire the nieve to come work for you for 3 months then quit. In the meantime suck em' dry and let them go into credit card debt. Normally anyone who is above "entry" level acts like they have alot of money but they don't. But if they don't act like it, then you won't work there. They SELL you on a DREAM. You have to buy into that dream. Kinda like 2 for the money. Everything is a front.

I have said from the beginning there are truths on both sides. Suffice to say I have "been" there and done that and could quite possibly still be doing it. Only a fool would say.
ROR is the dinner table of info - some you digest , some you turn your nose up at. We slap each other around and take good natured jabs at each other. Sometimes it gets ugly as it would in any family. I can tell Frank, Moby, Tim and Barbie consider this a form of therapy whether they know it or not. This is an ongoing reality show where we can interact without showing our faces. Many things said in here would not be said face to face. Too bad for you guys as Barbie is very attractive, that I know. How about a picture for everyone??
Keep the crap coming, wash your hands before coming to the table and leave room for desert!

POSTED: Sunday, April 02, 2006BUY TERM AND INVEST THE DIFFERENCE" how much that difference is becomes vital. Farmers and State Farm charge as much as primerica for term insurance, but what they say is "buy from us for convenience and have one agent for all your needs". I'd tell anyone asking me not to buy from them either.......giving away $75,000-150,000 death benefit for the sake of convenience isn't a good decision either.
When primerica says the way to financial happiness is to buy term and invest the difference and then charges as much as 127% more for the term insurance it means your client is sabotaging the financial philosophy by purchasing from the very person preaching that philosophy to him. The more difference you have the more you have to invest.
If a person pays 88% more for the life insurance from primerica you not only have to consider the extra premium, but the lost opportunity cost of that extra premium. You know what lost opportunity cost is don't you........or do they not bother with that at good ol' PFSU?
If you believe in Buy Term and Invest the Difference then investigate the market and don't buy the term from the first yahoo that comes at you with a canned sales pitch................like Cousin Larry the primerica rep.

AUTHOR: George - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Wednesday, February 22, 2006I've been working as an independent contractor for 12 years now for various companies throughout the US. Any reputable company would offer it's IC's at the very least mileage expenses. Many will cover your cell phone, lodging and even offer a $30 per day meal expense. Sometimes they prefer to pay a per diem rate of $75 to $125, depending on the market.
Anyhow, I never worked for or applied with AIL. My girlfriend though went through some training with them and asked me to read some of these rebuttals. Now that I have, I've come to the conclusion that this is more than likely a scam.
During her training she'd come home many times frustrated and feeling stupid. She's not stupid though, she's very bright and inquisitive. Apparently AIL has a problem with people who are intelligent. She would tell me that they would never answer ligitiment questions she asked and would make her feel stupid for asking them...rolling there eyes, telling her to focus etc. Whatever happened to the saying; "there is no such thing as a stupid question?" I've been through many training programs in my life and never have I had a instructor refuse to answer a question, and if he ever rolled his eyes at me after asking a question I would have simply walked out....after knocking him on his A**!!
Companies like this (MLM)are all over and the people who are involved in recruiting others just so they can jump a level in the pyramid are the lowest of the low. Greed at it's worst. I wouldn't doubt for a second that AIL doesn't give two turds about the people working for them, let alone the poor souls buying these crappy insurance policies. I also wouldn't be surprised if I found out that AIL planted some of their seasoned veterans in the classrooms posing as trainees themselves. What better way to control suspicion then to have a fellow trainee apply peer pressure on an inquisitive, maybe suspicous, classmate? That's how I would do it if I were running a scam such as this.
So, in conclusion, I recommend that anyone who has been scammed by this company follow through and report them to the Better Business Bureau and print out some of these rebuttals so you can hand them out to some other classmates who are in your training class (assuming you're still there). Also, if you're having a hard time getting your license status from AIL, as my girlfriend is, tell them that you will plant yourself on their front doorstep and hand out these rebuttals to anyone who is going for an interview with them until you recieve your license and any other paperwork you might need from them. That'll scare the crap out of them enough to get you what you're entitled to.
To those of you who are still blinded by the greed and false hope this company has instilled in you, remember this....karma will eventually catch up with you. I know this first hand through experience. I predict AIL won't be around in another 10 years so don't count on retiring with them, let alone make a dencent living.

POSTED: Saturday, March 26, 2005It was not worth spending $30,000 defending myself for a he said, she said case. The jury could have gone either way whether I did what I was accused of or not.
The money is in screwing the dumb union guys that let me in their homes.
The name of the game is money and if I have to kiss a little as_ to get on the surviving side of the boss I will. I find him kind of cute anyways, the way he spits that tobacco turns me on. I drank out of his cup once by mistake after a couple too many drinks. Wow that is powerful stuff, no wonder why he spits it out.
Yes I may drink too much but who doesn't? I only wet myself at one NILICO company party. I had a great time that night.
Luckily for the real world of money, most union guys are too stupid to use a computer so they will never read any of this anyways.
I can always deny it or say I was in a blackout. Anyone who knows me would testify that there was a good chance of that.
As far as me getting drunk at the golf meeting and pulling down my pants, so what? I had underwear on anyways. I've seen worse at football games.
It is my attitude that sets me apart and earned my promotions. I think you are jealous that I do so well.
The benefits I sell are the best these idiots will ever see because they are too stupid to shop around? How dumb must you be to believe your union about something as important as insurance.
If you bought that from me, shame on you if you did not have a financial planner or tax consultant look at it.
I used to be one and they screw people everday also.
Remember I grew up in NYC and learned quickly to survive in the jungle do what ever needs to be done, including denying this if my boss asks, unles he congradulates me.
I know he reads it everyday. He is the one who told our group about it. Duhron you did the right thing promoting me watch and see, you will be proud of me. I don't think there is anything unmanly about crying at company parties after a few drinks. It shows how much I think of you and your trust in me to sell you benefits with the accident benefits or without, I'm in till the end.
Nobody knows about the loss of the benefits and if they ask me I tell them the benefits got better not worse. Some believe me because I tell them I came from their union and who ever heard of benefits getting worse?
It is further proof how dumb they really are. The whiners on this site are the ex-employees who did have guilt when it came to taking money from stupid hard working union dopes. They were in the wrong job and now they know it. I fired plenty of them. I did each and every one of them a favor.
If you saw a $100 bill fall from someones pocket, would you pick it up and call it a lucky day or run to return it? If you are the one out of 100 that would return it stay away from the insurance industry.
Trust me I have been at it for a while now. I let the trainees buy me lunch, after all they think they will soon be making six figures anyways. They get to ride in my truck with my gas.
All I can say to the whiners is "LOOK AT ME". I'm a successful NILICO manager.
What are you? A whiner? A complainer, who do you think you are trying to protect in these rebuttals? Nobody reads them, just other losers like you!

POSTED: Saturday, March 26, 2005I also fed the food chain of the pyramid nicely. I had several other job offers from other AIL/NILICO agents when they left Rochester. Yes I know what it takes and believe that the NYS SGA is a moron who has a terrible sense of who to promote, like Hal, the drunken crybaby that gets drunk and cries at all the big meetings like the Christmas party.
He then gives a speech about how great Durhon Oldham is and how he saved him from poverty. The biggest as_ kisser I ever saw.A couple of people who worked at Metlife with him claim he did something shady there and lost his series 6 and 63 licenses and could not longer work there. Hardly someone I would want to promote, let alone hire.
Next they have computer Matt an office manager who can't even manage leads, he always has a story though, blame it on the computer system, not the person running the key board. He lies to Durhon every day and hides the truth from him. He is a rea yes man, and liar.
He drinks, and golfs with the boss so he must be OK. I've seen many good agents quit because he could or would not pass out leads as promised. Durhon claims that he does everything the right way, I would hate to see the wrong way. The bigger the the liar the bigger the promotion. I did tell Roger Smith about the situation and he never replied.
He seemed so nice at convention talking my my wife and myself, I guess he does not care either. I hope some day we chat. The loss is theirs not mine as they really don't have union leads in Rochester anyways.
They only signed up about 10% of the unions and they had so many complaints of our deceptive sales practices, not paying claims, not returning calls, bothering people on Sundays, not delivering food from the food bank, etc. that many unions and credit unions told us to stop calling and seeing our members permanently. They told their members that we were scammers and not to deal with us.
They also talked to heads of other unions that we had not signed up and warned them not to sign up and they wisely chose no to. Bridge burning. Durhon had many chances to correct the obvious problems but refused to because he thinks he is doing everything the right way. His NY numbers are so bad after about 4 years that he had to move his money guys to Pa.
where the numbers are going up along with the complaints that you can read on these forums. I expect to see those numbers drop again soon enough. I already have more licenses than Durhon, I'm getting more and I'm not at all worried about being successful. I was before National Income and I am still.
I learned some good sales tricks over there, very few will I ever use use again. A good salesman does not need tricks, or lies, he needs knowledge and honesty, and to be caring and considerate and a very strong work ethic and drive.
These are things they don't spend any time training people there. He blew what could have been a real gold mine if he hired good salesman, trained them properly, had ethics, morals. He thinks because he sees a lot of short term money he is doing great.
He is losing 90% of the potential that product had when they sold the accident benefit. I heard the number two guy Jim's pay went down 75% since his boss went to Michigan.
He has lost all but 1 good salesman. He could not tell the truth if you offered him double his paycheck. The managers are running around warning the agents not to join management because it was the biggest mistake they ever made.
You also will leave if you have any character and you will be successful where ever you go because you seem to understand why there are so many complaints against this company and so few positve replys. It is so obvious to anyone who has been there for a while that the posive ones are just written by desperate recruiters trying to recruit because that is what they are taught.
Any real Insurance Company with a good reputation has at least 4 to 5 personal interviews with different interviewers usually 1 on 1 or possibly 2 at the most. They want people who will not tarnish their reputation. They all give you at least 3 hours of testing, usually 2 tyes of tests to see if you fit the slot.
They don't want to waste their time or yours and money on someone they don't think will be successful. Nilico has a standard 3 interview process. 1. They call you, you don't call them, they do their best to convince you that you applied for their job when you did not. If you agree for an interview, you come in today or tomorrow, you are interviewed by a guy in his 20's who did not even read your resume that you had posted on the internet, he asks you about 5 questions nothing to do with experience, tells you some lies and asks you to come back tmorrow to meet the State Director. 2. Surprise!
You were really invited to a group interview, the type everyone warns you about, the goal is to sucker 4 out of 40 people to believe you, make those 4 think that you have a chance of being hired for a job with benefits and big money, if you are a lucky one you may be invited back for the 3rd and final interview with God's assistant. 3. You get the call if you show up you are "hired". Similar to selling Avon make up or having tupperware parties, everyone can make a million. I feel sorry for the women that try they seem to burn out and give up the quickest, why do they try? I don't know.
I have nothing against them I am married to one of them. They just don't make it in this business. We had one exception but she had more male qualities than female and we had another who fails miserably and can't even pay her rent. The rest usually don't last more than a month or so. If I were a woman applying for this job I would ask for the names of 5 local successful women who have more than 2 years experience. If they can't, run to you next interview in a different field. They seem to hurt the worse when they fail at what I call "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE"

Find Another Firm deceptive, evasive, and otherwise dishonest in their recruiting practices
AUTHOR: Ron - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Thursday, March 24, 2005As the the actual levels of comission, 26% to start is laughable. There are many good companies out their offering 55-75% FYC on their policies at the very lowest tiers, and up to 100%+ based on performance goals which have nothing to do wit recruiting activity. The truth is that in just about ANY MLM system, you MUST recruit heavily to realize the same levels of commission that you could easily achieve working for yourself at more traditional firm. Any reputable company would spell this out to potential candidates upfront so that they could make an informed decision.
The truth is that while insurance sales CAN BE one of the most lucrative businesses there is, it is by no means easy money and the majority of people are not cut out for it. As with stock brokers, real estate agents and other high profile sales jobs, it takes extraordinary talent and sales ability to earn the top incomes, and the median income figures are much closer to regular salaried jobs. And as sales go, insurance is one of the most difficult to succeed in, arguably even more than "upscale" stok brokering.
There are just too many companies out there that will be honest and upfront with you about job expectations to deal with someone that would trick you into a business that you're not suited to.

POSTED: Friday, February 11, 2005It was very interesting reading your "Rebuttal". As you say, perhaps American Income really cares about workers of Unions, and their own people,
I was wondering if you can explain us few things then:
1) Why did you fire your HR representative from Saskatoon?
He was hiring I would say 3 people a week to compensate the 99% turn over at your agency there and still " THE OPPORTUNITY WAS NOT FOR HIM ? "
I am a Policy owner myself an he tried to get me on-board, I know he was an honest guy, He would not hire someone that really did not "want" the opportunity...he was honest he was fired.
He just was not hiring hords of Agents as AIL wanted....
2) If I recall properly, that 19 Y.O. Winnipeg girl, she was an State General Agent right? I believe she forged some signatures didn't she?? to be able to work in SK did she not?? She broke the law, and penalized by the insurance authorities of SK. BAD Vernelle!
She certainly made over 45K that year, but by the time she paid her agency and work expenses her NET earnings were not even $1000 a month, her dad had to move her back to MB with her tail between her legs. I happen to be somewhat connected to her folks, and I assure you this is fact. My relatives live in the same area in MB.
She also kicked a Policy Owner out of the office while dropping a claim after an accident, because he happened to be an AIL former agent. I think she was your protege, but if it's true what I did read at the Insurance council bulletin she was not fired for that, she left because she was pregnant by a co-worker that still works for your agency and refuses to take responsability
All this can be expected, before AIL she was a Burguer King employee the bulletin said. REAL management material to deal with Life Insurance.
Life insurance is like a burguer for Altig !
as BK slogan goes " Do it your way! "

POSTED: Thursday, February 10, 2005If it is so good why do 91% fail in their first year with AIL? Mr. Sweeney is not the president of the local 277, Becky Turner is. She is worthless and does nothing to help any union members of the 277.
Her phone number and address are not on the union card for a reason. Mr. Sweeney will be hearing about her soon enough.
The discusting talk about the Democrats is a good enough reason to quit. They are the ones who signed into law partial birth abortions. You know when they are pulling the baby out and stick metal through its head killing it, then removing it, like it was not even human. Labor? Yes Billy Clinton, the pot smoking non inhaling fellow that prefers teenagers to his wife signed the Nafta laws that sent so many of our union jobs to Mexico, China and other places like that.
Canadians we see how they treat us lately. Kind of like the French. Keep your politics to yourself, did you notice how much of the map was covered in red, and believe me I'm not happy with Bushes Democratic views of the Mexican border.
You work for the biggest scammers I ever saw, why do you do recruiting every week? Group interviews at that, just like multi level marketing recruiting.
Why stop giving leads to agents who don't want to join management being happy with working 7 nights a week and two days? Tell some one else.
Been there done that, read your contract? Or did they pull from your hands as soon as you signed it?
Do you have to wait 6 months for your 1st bucket check after leaving? Do most agents owe money to the company when they leave? Tell someone else.
Most agents never get another check after leaving. You quote Jesus, what do you think he would say about partial birth abortions?

POSTED: Wednesday, February 09, 2005If this is you then American Income is not for you. I started with American Income over 2 and a half years ago and have moved all the way up to the RGA position. In the office I started in, last year our lowest earner was in the low $30,000 range. Many made between $60,000 and $80,000, a few over $100,000. Myself I made over $200,000 last year.
American Income is rated A+ superior by A+M Best and for good reason. For those of you who don't know who is the president of the AFL-CIO it is John J Sweeney and he does sit on the AIL Labor Advisory Board. Beside him sit Paul Almeida, President Dept. of Professional Employees and Ronald Ault, President of Metal Trades Dept, AFL-CIO, along with 52 other prominent Labour Leaders.
Former Speaker of The House Jim Wright even sits on the Labour Advisory Board.
American Income supports Labor and has every right to do so. Founder Bernard Rapoport is one of the largest contirbutors to the Democratic Party in the U.S. and that is his right to do so. Many large corporations encourage their employees to vote Republican but I don't hear anyone whining about that.
It makes sense both from a social justice stand point and an economic one for AIL to support Labor. When an anti-labor government such as the Bush administration takes office they immediatly attack workers rights, both union and non-union.
By endorsing Labor and the democrats AIL does not only what is morally right, (protecting workers) but what is economically right for the company. The more workers who are protected and keep their jobs in the U.S. the larger amount of members for AIL to protect with it's products.
I personally have seen AIL's benefits pay out when other insurance companies continued to press for more information before they could make a decision.
Ail representatives are protected by three different unions. OPEIU 277 in the US and by the CEP in Canada and COPE 15 in Western Canada. COPE 15 represents their members very well.
AIL is not multi -level marketing. Multi-level marketing allows the person at the top to get very rich well the people at the bottom make nothing. Many personal producers and career agents with AIL make over $100,000 per year.
When a Manger grows an agency they do it by teaching their asscoiates how to become successful in the business. In any business venture, somebody who grows a company in the size of it's producers gets rewarded and AIL is no different in this aspect.
If you didn't make it at AIL, maybe your training was lacking, maybe you felt like your were all on your own. From my experience in life people generally try to make excuses why they can not succeed.
They blame their upbringing, their boss, their leads, everybody but themselves. AIL is not perfect and people there will make mistakes. Jesus said let he who is with out sin cast the first stone! I wonder how many of you can look in the mirror and say if not some of the blame is your own lack of drive, committment, motivation or self discipline for your lack of success.
Whether with AIL or any futur endeavour I wish you all the best, but when life is done and the taking of your last breeath is upon you, will you not wonder, what if..... you really had of gave eveything in life your all, instead of blaming others.

AIL Retention percentage and Taxes
AUTHOR: Josh - (Canada)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Sunday, February 06, 2005I am a university grad. and like others more, I did find it hard finding something suitable in my own field of study. However, I did earn some good experience in sales when working part time during my good old school years. Then I thought giving it a try with AIL after receiveing an approval from the local HR manager; in which i regret accepting.
In my BS training period, I always keep hearing about the intigrity of our career and how we are there to help other people out and provide them with benefits that other insurance companies seize to offer.
1) They say that they are the only company that offers a freedom of choice and the union member should accept it because his other life insurance companies wont pay the death benefit uptill a year. Crap..!!! Most insurance companies payout 10% instantly until the claim is settled.
2) I was directly trained in ways how to decieve the client... my trainers were showing me ways in how to express affection and shed tears to gain sympathy... total rip off in my books.
3)I don't consider talking entirely about money issues very professional.
4)If it is true that "Torchmark" is made a $800 M. USD profit last year, why can't they invest more in one solid insurance company, with well trained agents, instead of mothering 5 other life insurance companies to compete with each other.
4)I had to work over 70 hours a week and travel 200km/ day to places I can't see on a map; just to solicitate people in buying extra coverage they don't need.... I rather spend that extra time with my family. waste of money, gas and don't mention all the repairs i did due to all those f*n country roads.
5) following a deceiving script, i was told to be making $50k/ year... I didn't even make $500 in 3 weeks.
6)It is all about recruiting new naive agents, becasue they know they have a low retention level.
I mean.. why can't they even pay a base salary like other insurance companies do? unless they known for sure that there guy won't last.
7)most of the leads i received were from referals of referals whom were not interestred in even talking over the phone with me. Even so, I was able to make an average of 18 appts./week and was so punctuate in organising my agenda. But all what I got was many ABS, not interested... and even ppl using the popular "F" word to chase me out.
8) In the province of Quebec (Canada), you are required by law to perform a "Financial Needs Analysis" before submitting an insurance proposal. We were told not to. You know why..? becasue the products that are offered are all scam... the whole life freedom of choice is nothing but a term insurance...
Finally I decided to leave... but still wasn't left in peace. I recieved a letter from AIL (WACO), telling me to return back $400 CDN that was owed. I guess those were from the policies I sold and fell off... They threatened to add it up to my income tax slip...
IS THIS LEGITIMATE...???????????????
I am on this descussion thread for two reason.
1) To warn job seekers/ consumers about AIL and it's representative in Canada (ALTIG INTL.)
2) To get a clear answer answer from anyone who could help me with this stupid commission pay back issue.

As you admitted, there many agencies ran very differently from one another, unfortunately there are enough quiestionable-ran agencies to make people generalize about AIL's bad reputation.
Having said that, the person that has to "deal with it" is not me, its you....
Thanks to the other non-reputable AIL agencies, you are "dealing with it" everyday, even in this same forum.
Finally, good luck to you and your agency, keep up the honest work, I know its hard to prove your honesty and integrity when many other agencies are not, but at least the people you help will know.

POSTED: Tuesday, January 25, 2005I believe your "Rebuttal" is quite biosed, I do not know if you anything to do with the so called ALTIG International. My friend was the HR Manager there, he had a salary, and he was given online tools for recruiting people. Living in a 200,000 people city, after over a year working there were not a lot of "new resumes" available for him to prospect for "new employees" . Because he was only hiring 2 or 3 new people a week an SGA named Chad basically just told him that this opportunity was not for him and gave him his notice since he was not hiring the minimum of 4 agents per week to keep up with the 100% turn over.
Maybe your husband's agency is very honest and upfront and cares about its agents....but the thing is AIL IS A CHAIN OF AGENCIES.. and like the say "A Team is as strong as its weakest member"

POSTED: Monday, January 24, 2005As for the people who are complaining about how the company makes money off of the people that work there, I would love for them to give me the name of a succesful company that is in the habit of hiring people and paying them for the work that they do when the company itself is not making money off of it. And yes, the parent company probably did make 800,000,000 at least in profit last year...it's a nationwide Fortune 500 company...how much would you say microsoft made in profit last year? yes, the position is comission-based, and so is real estate, and selling cars, and a lot of other things...those aren't scams too are they? there are non-commision based positions within the company however, such as that of david zophin, and the receptionist at my husband's office.
My husband gets about fifty leads a week, and yes, the globe leads are old, but he only has about twenty of those right now out of about 1500 total. As for people who are supposedly getting ripped off when they can get cheaper insurance from state farm, well that's great, then they can go to state farm, nobody is forcing them to buy ail insurance, these are adults. they can make their own decisions...as far as the company being a part of a massive pyramid sceme, this is a company tat was started in 1924...what pyramid scheme lasts that long without being on the news for how they're ripping poeple off?
As for those of you who left the company, or were called and decided against taking the job, that's fine, go find a different job. and darnel, as for the company causing you to 'waste money on food' are you inplying that were you not in training with this particular comany, you would not need to eat, and therefore would not have had to spend money on food...however I seriously doubt that you wasted all that much money on food, since my husband also trained under david zophin's agency, in both RI and MA, and they bought everyone lunch every day, usually out of david's pocket.

AUTHOR: Tim - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Friday, December 10, 2004http://www. donotcall.gov/ , its a nice thing. Your no cost benefits are in effect as long as you are in the union or retired from the union, the supplemental options are the reason they would like to sit at your table, some of them are good you may want a financial advisor to look them over and you have a significant time period to read them over and cancel parts or all of what they offer. Most don't. Most should. One question you may ask would be, am I buying one policy or two? Oh, by the way your free benefits are in effect regardless of your designating your beneficiary in front of an enrollment officer (commision only salesman plus possibly small amount towards medical benefits) or not.
If someone in your family dies accidently or becomes dismembered call your union. Another great way to stop anonymous dinner time calls is to activate a free service with your phone company called "Anonymous Call Rejection" locally you activate it here by pushing *77, may be different in your area, look in the front of your phone book for details.
Most telemarketers use *67 "per-call Restrict" so that their phone number does not show up on your caller I.D. It does not matter if you have caller I.D. or not, if they are not willing to let you know who is calling, your phone will not ring, instead they get a recording saying this customer does not accept anonymous calls. It will eliminate some jerk bothering you at dinner time on a Sunday night between 4-9 PM, like we were forced to do, as well as the rest of the week. Hope this helps anyone who may read this.
Have a Great Christmas.

POSTED: Wednesday, December 08, 2004As far as my not knowing what I'm talking about, well I don't claim to know everything about AIL and could care less about knowing. TIM pretty much summmed it all up in his previous post and confirmed my assumptions.
Union workers work very hard for the little bit of compensation they receive. To make matters worse, those in trade organizations or overall blue collar workers live in a "feast or famine" economy. They certainly don't like being ripped off by some makeshift insurance policy. I'll be sure to inform my union business agent of this website and have him call upon our brothers in the Cleveland area, alerting them to AIL and their policies. If I have anything to say about it, those so-called "renewals" will become YOUR pipe dream. NOW you can call THIS an ugly rebuttle, unlike my previous ones where I was trying to be courteous before you decided to attack me, implying that I'm stupid. We'll see who looks stupid eventually. And about my having nothing better to do with my time, this is the ONLY rebuttle report I've answered to and it don't take me near as much time as I plan to spend talking this over with the Local union.
It is funny how those in management would prefer to get rid of a 2 year agent as opposed to a new recruit. You see, that means more money in their pocket since they absord the renewals so it pays to squeeze out those in the upper tier of the FOOD CHAIN. So Barbara, don't go having too many high hopes of retirement, at least not with AIL. Your boss may be gunning for you in the near future. Just think of the renewal fees he'll absorb??? Remember, its nothing personal, its business.
Gee, those 20 appointments/week could be a hard task to perform, especially when your job is at stake and the SGA keeps that in the back of his mind.
I ONLY wish AIL's local chapter would stop calling me in for an appointment. I've had several different RECRUITERS call me over the past week.

I love my SGA. He doesn't have a bad bone in his body and has bent backwards for me numerous times. My managers too. Our agency is very tightknit. I am a GA and I really do care about my agents.
Yes, John Sweeney is the President of the AFL-CIO. That's what I said.
No, we've not been asked to stop calling any unions. I'm not sure why your agency was.
I don't know why you went sooo long without fresh leads. I don't have that problem. It has NEVER happened to me EVER. Not even a week.
I understand what you are saying about giving a successful agent the fresh leads and I'm sorry that you dealt with that. My SGA isn't like that. I'm sure there is some reason for it though. Maybe your SGA thought that was the best thing to do.
All I can say is that you must be in a totally different world than we are in Cleveland and I feel more fortunate than ever that that's where I started and that's where I'll stay.
So Thank You and have a nice holiday.

SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Monday, December 06, 2004I feel sorry for you. I'm glad you say you love your job but you seem so worried that this may all be true. I've lost countless hours of sleep because the stress this jobs put on me and my family, I suspect on you have also. That facts are facts,
1. AIL/NILICO have been told not to call or work with the United Auto Workers (a big union)in many areas.
2. AIL/NILICO have been told not to call or work with the SEIU 200 a huge union in NYS, the State employees union.
3. AIL/NILICO have been told not to call The NYS Nurses Association a huge group we used to work with.
4. AIL/NILICO has been told not to call the fesderal credit union 424 for the UNITED AUTO WORKERS.
5. We were told by our PR rep and our SGA that we lost a lot of possible unions because of this site and the reputation we built by doing business the way we do. How many have you lost in your area? How do you think I heard about this site, told by another agent that our SGA brought it up in a meeting.
6. As we continue to lose unions and not replace them with new ones the effective leads do dry up. I was promised union leads every 2 weeks when I was hired and many times went 2-3 months with none, while at the same time leads were given to first year agents. Towards the end I would be lucky to get 27 leads to last me for 2 months, and expected to set at least 20 appointments a week. Out of the 27 leads, 2 or 3 would be duplicates, many ABS (already been seen) in the last month or two. Many were too old to sell anything to or a WL funeral benefit at best. The leads were left over cherry picked from an agent that quit the week before. Some of the 27 did not want to be seen by a salesman (enrollment officer). At least a few were Globe cold calls. Many had seen it three or more times before and told me I have seen it and don't want it now or ever. If not for referrals where can you get the other 133 appointments during that 2 months that are expected? Remember 20 appointments per week minimum?
7. I believe Mr. Sweeney is the national president of the AFL-CIO not the local 277.
8. Most agents don't file grievences because they don't know where to begin.
9. Can you think of one good reason not to give leads to an agent that has bonused almost every month and won convention? Someone dedicated and successful by all of AIL's standards many times doubling their expectations? Someone who worked 7 days a week about 80-90 hours average?
10. I did take the time to read all the rebuttals, I agree with many not not all with others, anyone afraid of spending some money to get a license should not be thinking of a sales position. If AIL/ NILICO was not mostly in the recruiting business they would offer to pay minimum wage to trainees that they thought actually had potential, not a dime, not even a lunch. If they had to invest even minimum wage in their trainees there would be a lot less of them. I here the managers laugh about the recruits regularly and take bets as to how long they will last. Our MGA bragged that his record was losing 8 agents in one week. They all quit but he also threatens to fire others.
11. Barbara, I do not mean to attack you, merely point out to any prospective recruits this is a multi level recruiting plan near the end and not a good choice for most people who try and point out the fact that they will be lied to and misrepresented from the first contact with this company until their last day with this company.
12. If all of this is untrue why do you suppose our SGA announced several times that the national average of agent retention dropped from 12% to 9% lasting one full year? Are 91% of the agents that bad or did they knowingly and willingly hire people they knew had no chance? More troubling to me is after I proved myself why did they starve me for leads while giving leads to the new agents just hired? Don't you think they want second year agents out who did not want to be managers who did not want to hurt families that I have seen sucked into to this pyramid? I was asked to join the management and declined because I thought they were the worst managed company I had ever seen and many managers wispered in my ear that that was the biggest mistake they made, joining managent. Some call recruits (anyone who posts on Monster.c*m) and tell them that they are one of the hiring managers.
13. If you can answer each of these points instead of cherry picking the parts you want to respond to you would look more believable to new recruits. I doubt any possible recruit would ever try after reading any of these rebuttals from any of these employees or ex employees.
14. The unions themselves are being screwed by being presented with pretty good benefits to get them enrolled in a new area like NYS, then after three years the company that brags about making a hundred million per year cries about losing almost a million in $200 accident claims this year so dropped that part of our program. Were all the unions that still work with NILICO notified that what most union members found the most attractive part of the program was eliminated while the rates were raised. A member used to get $200 for an emergency visit and now on the new more expensive program they get zero. Wow! Not a penny for an accident! Wait till the unions figure this out. Average 40-50 per month for a small WL funeral benefit, a small amount of ADB, a hospitalizaion benefit that pays NYS members nothing unles you are admitted over night, and a lousy $100 month recuperation fee. Do you think shoppers might find a better deal elsewhere?
It is no wonder I can't sleep at night thinking about this garbage, when I got the point I could not look in the mirror I had say that is enough.
I used to justify it the way you do by saying look at all the people we helped, and besides they were to stupid to shop elsewhere anyways. Now that they took the accident benefit away how could anyone justify it? Would you buy that program or sell it to a relative the way we sell to union members? We all know the answer is NO!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Are you even a union member? policyowner? client? I'm just confused as to why you posted such a nasty messege to all of us when you have nothing to do with us. Do you just sit all day at your computer and write rip off report rebuttals? And just so you know. I don't work today and I'm relaxing surfing on the internet for an hour. That's why I had time to rebuttal this. Yes I have better things to do and have a lot of work to do also.

SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Saturday, December 04, 2004John- No I don't think WL is the best thing since sliced bread and no I'm not brainwashed. It all depends on the situation as to what type of life insurance I think a family needs.
Also, AIL and it's prices aren't too far off from anyone else. All insurance companies are a few dollars off from another as long as your comparing apples to apples. As a matter of fact, you must have not looked to far because I have beat State Farm twice in the last month by $30/Month. And yes that was WL to WL. Don't get me wrong. I have no bad feelings towards State Farm. They are a Fantastic company. I have a HUGE problem with Primerica because of all the lies I've personally witnessed with people and clients I know from Primerica. As a matter of fact, I just did a day of cont. ed. and everyone in the class from other companies had a story to tell about Primerica and their lies.
Yes I believe you should have a high amount of term in your younger years, but I also believe you should have WL too. I never claimed to have the cheapest prices. And as for cash value, Most WL policies don't build up cash for 2-3 years. You should know that.
And yes our products are unique. I only know of one other company that has a certificate for up front monies for funerals. There may be a few more, but I just have not ran into them.
And yes we are the ONLY 100% Union company out there. Other companies who claim to be union are underwritten by non-union companies. And just because you work with unions doesn't mean you are union.
And yes, I will retire or slow down tremendously by the time I'm 35. I know of a friend who worked at another company for 30 years and is only receiving 3000/month in renewals. If I work and retire from AIL that long, I'll be recieving a ton more than that a WEEK not a month! They have the best renewal system I've seen. And trust me, I've looked around and know a lot of people in the business.
So I'm just going to agree to disagree with you and be done with it. I know what's in my heart and I know I'm doing right for my people. So think what you want.

POSTED: Saturday, December 04, 2004With any MLM or PYRAMID structure, the only ones who prosper are the ones who get in on the ground floor when the company first sets up shop. At this stage of the business in this day and time, their market has been saturated to the point where its a downhill slope from here on out. I seriously doubt AIL will be around 7 years from now. In fact, I only give them 2 years. So those of you sitting on the top of the pyramid raking in all the revenues better save every dollar you can cause the gravy train is about to derail.
You see, people (with any common sense) can see that you're offended by these comments and feel the need to defend AIL. That clearly shows you're all about recruiting, living off the efforts of new agents who unfortunatly will waste their time chasing "a pipe dream" nearing its demise.
Sales organizations that are here to stay and will be here most likely after we're all long gone don't really want new agents or are only looking for a few here and there to fill the vacancies left by retired or other career pursuing interests. Think about it, you'll never have a Realtor, Car dealership, Media company, or for that matter, a reputable insurance company call or email you with a $45k opportunity, regardless of your background.
So in my opinion, AIL and Primerica are two peas in a pod in the business of RECRUITING, not selling insurance.
If you AIL managers feel the need to keep responding, taking offense to this and using ugly language, you're only reinforcing and convincing people what AIL is really about and the way they conduct business, not to mention the demeanor of its upper management staff.
Here's to wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

It's not for everyone but neither is selling cars, copiers, pencils or social work for that matter. If you care about people, aren't afraid of hard work and some evening hours, AIL might be for you. I say that for the benefit of all those that are reading these reports and are possibly considering a career with AIL.
Though currently not with AIL due to personl/health reasons, I implore anyone to ask the top producers of the agency they are considering working in, what they think of their opportunity.
Ask any self employed business person about the time and the money they invested to become successful.AIL is a walk in the park.
I was with AIL 12 years and now have 100K a year in renewals coming to me.If i had worked anywhere else I might have a gold watch, if that.
Don't rag on Barbara as she is a decent, honest, hard working young lady that will be able to realize a passive income that many will only dream about.
If you look for a crack in the window...you will find it. What I see in this blog are individuals that probably wouldn't be happy anywhere they might work.
Good luck to those that are considering AIL.....don't let the whineing you see in here keep you from your potential!

Barbara, Barbara, Barbara - I depise the people that do lie. Look at companies who brainwash their employees.
AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Friday, December 03, 2004I worked with American Income Life for almost two years. I experienced both the highs and the lows of the job. The biggest reason I am not with the company is where the company is heading and the way the business is run. I didn't leave because I couldn't "cut it". I left because I could no longer live my myself. I actually wrote a long response this summer defending AIL. When I read it, I laugh. I was brainwashed. I have a few issues with what you have wrote.
1. AIL is "The Union Insurance Company". Untrue. There are other insurance companies that target specifically unions. As an agent, I ran into union members with other union insurance. AIL claims to be 100% union. That is actually correct because the company forces every employee to join OPEIU 277. If you actually believe this is a legitimate union, you are nuts. It is established so that AIL can say it is 100% union. That is it.
2. "I help families that otherwise would never have been contacted and would lose evreything unless they were seen by us." After about 6 months with AIL, this was my justification in selling the benefits and eventually the reason I needed to leave. It is a bad feeling when you sell a policy to a struggling family and they could get a much cheaper policy down the street at State Farm. Trust me, I have looked into it.
3. "Just because you can't sell(mind you our benefits sell themselves because they are so unique)doesn't mean a company is crap." UNIQUE? Whole Life, I mean Freedom of Choice, I mean death benefit, I mean burial money, is not unique. Whole Life has been around forever. AIL is unique in how it sells a Whole Life policy. Instead of selling a policy, it sells that the days right after a loved one dies, you will need 8-10K and if you have other insurance it will not pay off right away. So instead of selling a policy, you sell death. Saying the benefits sell themselves is absurd. If that is true, they would not have to use benefits instead of insurance, death benefit instead of whole life, and monthy income replacement instead of Term Insurance.
4. "I depise the people that do lie. Look at companies like Primerica who brainwash their employees. I have seen sooo many clients who have Term and thought they had Whole Life. Primerica doesn't even carry WL as a product." The fact that you believe Whole Life is a better product than Term means YOU have been brainwashed. For the majority of people, they need large term policies in their earlier years (20-50). Plus, I would rather a company like Primerica not have WL rather than having junk Whole Life as AIL has Term Insurance but it is garbage insurance. If you compared the 4R&C, 10R&C, or 30 year MP with that of any major insurance company, you would be shocked. Plus, AIL is very deceptive about the length of the terms of their Term Insurance. Again instead of selling a Term policy, AIL sells a monthly income replacement focusing away from the actual face amount, length of term and price.
5. If you still believe you are helping people out, explain to me why over 50% of all policies written by AIL agents are no longer on the books after one year. The 50% number was quoted by CEO Roger Smith so it is probably actually higher. Legitimate insurance agents will have 90%+ retention. Also explain to clients why the WL policy doesn't accumulate cash value for 3 years.
6. If you still believe you are helping people out, take a poll around the office on how many agents and managers actually carry the benefits. If you believe all union members need these benefits, I guess that means you too.
7. "I am 28 and will retire at 35." Are you f'n kidding me. I wish you the best. Unless you are an SGA, good luck. I would put money on AIL not being around when you are 35. Eventually the Union Leaders will get so fed up with the complaints of its members that AIL will not be welcome. But if you do retire at 35, I better get an invitation to your retirement party.

POSTED: Friday, December 03, 2004You still have not stated the name, address, phone number of the president of the local 277 or the president of the National AFL - CIO. You also have not shown how how to file a grievence with the local 277. I'm glad AIL is the best job you ever had, it sounds like it may be the best one you ever will have. I have had much better and will have better again. If you research the address listed in Fort Worth on mapping sofware you will note that the address is not listed as a business. Most telephone searches can't find a phone number for them and none is listed on my union card. I don't know who my union stewart is and nobody else in our office does either. Do you or any other AIL agent know the name of their union stewart?
If I was so unsuccessful why did I bonus almost every month and win convention? How many conventions have you been to? Do you bonus every month?
If I am pi**ed off that the whole pyramid scam feeds off first year agents, its because I passed that stage that only 9% do only to be shut off of the union leads that were promised me every two weeks when I was hired. I've gone two to three months at a time with no leads while the new agents get 95-100 leads. The next month he or she has usually quits and the leads were wasted. I feel this is a justifiable grievence that the local 277 should resolve, if not the insurance department or the state or federal government. When I was hired I was promised new union leads every 2 weeks. They also promised no cold calls. Globe leads here are free not one dollar, nobody recalls sending in for Globe to have a third party contact them by phone although I found a few dumb enough to sit down and buy from me, it kind of felt like stealing. It felt cheap and dirty probably how a prostitute feels after being paid.
As far as gutter mouths go, by you telling people to shut up, I can only wonder how you treat a union brother when they say no they don't want or need your supplemental benefits.
I'll try to find your picture in the spotlight to see how often you do well, we both know that not many women are very successfull at AIL so I would be surprised to see you there.
I also learned that there is no such thing as a resolved lead because as soon as one agent resolves a lead the same lead is regenerated and past out to another agent and many times handed back to the same agent, no wonder why they have so many leads.
Since 91% of the agents don't last a full year did you ever wonder what happens to all the renewal money? Or have you not thought that one out yet? If the boys at the top of the pyramid want my or your renewal money sooner does it not make sense to starve you for leads until you quit? They know you will not be happy to see 5-10 new agents hired every week and given 95 leads while not giving a second year agent any for 2-3 months at a time. They don't have to fire people they quit after enough time wasted waiting for the promised leads. I outlasted 5 bosses in the first year. An agent that quits after 1 year gets only 10% of the due renewals for one year that are 5% of the busines that stays on the books for a year. The top of the pyramid keeps a lot of renewal money and has no incentive to keep an agent past one year. Why would they want to share that renewal money with anyone? I believe AIL wrote close to 100 million last year, imagine the renewals. How great is it for them not to have to pay any annual renewals for 91% of the agents they hire? They only have to pay 10% of a 5% annual renewal for a one year agent for only one year. 20% of a 5% annual renewal for a 2nd year agent for ony 2 years up to 100% of your annual renewals for a ten year agent. Look in your spotlight how few agents last 3 years, almost none. Nobody in our office knows what happens to all that renewal money but the SGA braggs that he makes multi millions per year while watching many families hurt terribly by these lies and deceptions. They think we are as stupid as the people buying the insurance. Most are. The multi million braggart must see the office girls crying that they can't afford to pay their rent, I've seen itmany times. He even asked us agents to chip in and donate money to them since they are doing such a great job. Merry Christmas to him and his family! Funny how scrooge comes to mind this Christmas season. Our Holiday party can't be called a Christmas party so that we don't affend any Christophobes.
Many unions have asked us not to call their members again because of the way we do business, others have warned other unions not to sign up as a new union to save the headaches involved, all the unions that will see us have already been seen many times already, not many new unions are being created, so to be successfull at AIL my advice is to run referral leads only that you provide for yourself. If you think they will feed you enough leads to live on you are a slow learner.
The bologna in your response is from the scripts the managers are trained to tell new hires, I suspect you are one of those.
How do you measure success?
I wish you, your family and all AIL, NILICO, and everyone a very Merry Christmas and a most successfull new year in this business or your next one.

POSTED: Thursday, December 02, 2004Tim, The presidant of the AFL-CIO sits on our advisory board and knows exactly what we are all about. I'm just very happy that you quit. We don't need people who aren't successful due to their own self and can't take responsibility for their own failures and have to blame others. Also, just a side note, Yes the Globe inquiries did send in for information. Just another thing you don't know about but like to think you do. It just happens that it takes awhile to even start calling on those because we are soooo busy with unions. So by the time we have gotten ahold of them, they have forgotten. And Yes you would pay on average $20 per lead on those with any other company. You don't pay a dime with us.
As for the person who said something along the lines of paying for your training manuel, we don't pay for ours in Cleveland. That must just be the agency in your area.
As I've stated before, it takes a special kind of person to be successful at AIL. Someone who can motivate themselves and not have to be told what to do. AIL has changed my life for the better. I take pride in what I do and yes I'm an honest agent. I don't screw with people. You will find dishonest people in anything you do, not just at AIL and not just in the insurance companies.
As for the person who said you won't work anywhere where they charge you for training. That's fine because we don't charge you. The only thing you must pay for is your licensing class and license itself. Which is state law. That is not our policy. Plus we will reimburse you if you hit a minimal standard in your first Quarter for all of that. On top of that, you also mentioned that we called even though you wanted a technical position. Well guess what? I never thought I'd be in insurance and I am and my life is better for it. That is why we called you.
So maybe you all should keep your mouths shut unless you really know what you are talking about.

Job Seeker, ASK if this is a SALES position
AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Wednesday, December 01, 2004The representative stated he found my resume on the internet. Given the name (AIL), I promptly asked if this is about an Information Technology (IT) position as clearly stated in the OBJECTIVE in my resume. He replied "We may have positions like that but want you to come in for an interview". I replied that I had not spent the past four years in college looking to pursue a SALES career and specifically had no interest in sales. He basically repeated the statement above, attempting to trick or lure me into the office. I agreed on a meeting time but now after doing my homework, researching, finding, and reading the posts on this website, I've convinced it is a waste of time. I'll not be attending that interview.
For a company whos corporate website states "built on honesty, trust, and integrity", they sure put a lot of effort into deceiving and wasting the time of unfortunate unemployed job seekers. To make matters worse, taking money from them they don't have to spare.
My first rule is: I should not have to pay for a job or training. Most companies who value people offer free training OR recruiters are paid by the corporation for college educated professionals.
My second rule is: MLM is a DEAD END street. Ask anyone who has majored in marketing or economics. Its only a matter of time till it goes bust.
My third rule is: NO hiring manager wants you that bad that they are willing to ring your phone off the wall or send several emails to get you to come in for an interview. Its the sign of a scam or scheme that only benefits THEM.
I believe there needs to be some corrective action by either the job boards, legislation by state/federal level, or some other entity to prohibit organizations like this. Its no different than any other scam conducted by people on the street.

One day I was just surfing the net and went to monster.com to check out job listings and came across AIL. I created a free account and used the resume creator to post the resume.
One morning the following week, someone called me from an office in CT stating the SGA David Zophin wanted to see me and they wanted to hire me. I was very excited. So later that week I went up there for the 1st interview. I was like 5 minutes late so they told me they would call me back. So now I go 30 minutes out the way to Middletown/Cromwell CT EXIT 21 I-91 SOUTH, from Springfield MA EXIT 4 I-91 NORTH.
So a week or two later they called me again. I was like someone already called me from your office. They said come on in for a final interview.
After the interview I was like, "you know, what the hell", I'll take a chance the worst thing that can happen is I'll become an insurance agent, which I am now, correction Producer.
So now they tell me the class starts on Monday bring a check for $150 for the book and training. I'm like hmm ok then. So I do and I come to training each and everyday as told to do so.
After the training I take the test and fail it. I eventually pass the test and begin my "Field Training" with a "SA" Supervising Agent, Maurice Bailey.
I'm training for over 2 months wasting my time and money into this company and finally in June I become my own Agent in the field or so they call it "MIT" Manager in Training.
After numerous months of not making any money, wasting my gas, money on food, and my time and my life, I'm like you know what these people lied to me.
They make you think your an independant contractor but in fact your not. They are illegally classifying by IRS standards as an IC when you are not if you are being bossed around by your SA.
I made my money wasted back and quit with their company.

POSTED: Sunday, November 21, 2004Basically you'll have to call home office to talk to our union stewart or any officers. That is where you will get your answers to your union questions.
As for a Globe lead, I understand that they are not the best but believe it or not that is what other companies use and make you pay for it. We get them for free. Not all leads are Globe. And yes they are old leads but they are another form to see people. They are our sister company. They did respond. They sent a dollar in the mail for a quote. I personally like dealing with our union folks more than the Globes but they are people who need coverage too. And as I said before, if you were at any other company, you would actually have to pay for that 2-3 year old lead.
As for our PR people wanting you to vote Democratic. I like to keep who I vote for to myself and I don't think you should ever tell anyone who to vote for. That is your own choice. The reason why they are so Democratic is because as far as I know, that is who basically founded Unions. 99% of the people we see are Democrates. You have your opinion and so does everyone else. That is your choice and I respect you for that.
As far as the liars that you are referring to...Every company has them and unfortunately they give us a bad name. But please know we are not all like that. I have been there for 5 years and I don't lie and have been successful.
I depise the people that do lie. Look at companies like Primerica who brainwash their employees. I have seen sooo many clients who have Term and thought they had Whole Life.
Primerica doesn't even carry WL as a product. It's at any company you go too. The insurance business itself as a whole has many scumbags as do the car dealerships but thank God their are people like you and I who are true to their word and all we want to do is help. Most people will see that and be thankful of that.
My advice is to keep on being an upstanding person and employee and you will be successful and good things will happen. I promise that. I'm honest and successful. It does happen. Just keep in mind that the liars are everywhere, not just at AIL.

POSTED: Wednesday, November 17, 2004First I would like to say that you didn't survive because you weren't on script. At least that isn't the one we use in Cleveland. I NEVER say I'm a union representative. That IS misleading. You are to say I'm calling in reference to the card you filled out about your no cost group benefits....and that IS the truth. We have been handselected by these unions, that's why we "cater" to them. We ARE the Union Insurance Company.
And as for the funeral, that is not how I explain it at all. And the clients who have lost loved ones and had their funerals taken care of since I've been there will disagree with you. As a matter of fact, we have funeral directors who have our coverage. I suppose you want our people to spend $100/month for a pre-paid funeral than $26/month for our coverage. And personally I feel almost all of our clients can afford our coverage. It pi**es me off when they have 4wheelers and motorcycles but say they can't afford to protect their family. That just says they don't give a sh**.
So, no offense, but you were the one misinformed and maybe you THOUGHT you knew the company and didn't. I know nothing about Wisconsin but I do know Cleveland cares more about the people than we do about our paycheck and any of my personal clients will agree to that.

POSTED: Tuesday, November 16, 2004First of all, I was trained by a person who started less than a month before I did. What a joke to have me drive 200 miles a day, for training by a kid with very little knowledge and experience. They let him train me because he wanted to get into management....at my expense.
The company-approved scripts we read during phone settings were very deceptive. Hi, this is --- ---, your Union Representative with American Income Life, how are you doing today? They love to cater to unions.
Just the first line confused most union members into thinking we represented their union (not OPEIU local 277). A sneaky way to slide under the radar of being a life insurance company. Being new, I had to explain to many members the difference here. It is the law to disclose that you are there to sell insurance...no candy coating.
And the leads you get, another lie. People reply to a letter they received from their union about some free benefits. We call them saying we need to stop by and deliver those benefits, then we try to sell them supplemental life and health insurance (disability, accidental, whole life, cancer, ect..) Very ethical, (wouldn't you agree?)
Then the funeral benefit really pi##ed me off. Once I learned about it a little more, I left the company almost immediately.....
Here's a part of the presentation about 3/4's of the way through the funeral benefit part (whole life).
OK Tom and Mary, now at age 65, theirs a decision you will have to make. Cash in your bucket (cv) and take the money to help supplement your retirement or social security, or take a paid up option. And all paid up means, is that we will make sure you have a funeral benefit, for your retirement, but it's already paid for. That's nice to know...now isn't it?
Why do I still remember this stuff?? Anyways, they clearly dodge a bullet here. They make sure we don't know more about how the policies work and just follow a script that screws people over.
The PAID-UP options are to take an extended term (cv pays for the policy up to a specific age set by the term), or a reduced paid up (reduce the policy amount and cover to age 100).
Why is this a big deal? Because a little $15,000 funeral policy will either end up to only cover to a specific age, which might be out lived, or it will be reduced to a smaller amount that probably won't cover the expenses by that time down the road.
They normally sell a smaller policy at first, because that opens up a need down the road to come back and increase coverage. At that point they have an older attained age, which means a new policy and new commissions for the agent.
Our weekly meeting was always a show of affection to our consumers. I remember one women getting ripped on for saying the people she saw could not afford any coverage. Yes, that is not her decision to make, but be a little more professional about it. It just shows the blood hungry nature of these managers.
I replied with, "what about a needs analysis?" Their answer was that their individual unions already did the needs analysis, and they ALL need our products. Like everyone is in the same financial situation.....how reckless can you get?
There were so many shady practices there. Once you get to a certain point in the company where you start to understand what is going on, you really have to make a conscious decision as to whether you stay there or not.
These comments don't necessarily reflect the company as a whole, but these are experiences with an individual agency with-in the company.
I only pray other agencies in this company do not operate this way.

POSTED: Monday, October 18, 2004I can see that some are misinformed and being young college grads, probably don't have a whole lot of "real life" business experience. They joined AIL believing the "promises" that were made to them. They didn't do their "DUE DILIGENCE" and when the real ugly truth began to sink in it hurt. I can understand that. But anyone investigating a "business opportunity" MUST MUST MUST do their DUE DILIGENCE!! Get all the FACTS before you make a decision. If you can afford to shoulder a large part of the expense in getting your business off the ground, and see a real potential in the Insurance market, go for it. If you cannot afford overhead expenses while you are getting your business off the ground, don't do it. I DO believe this AIL company IS MISLEADING IN THE WAY THEY PRESENT THE OPPORTUNITY. There is a reason for that, as so many have pointed out, it's to GET YOU IN THE DOOR. I personally have never been a fan of insurance companies, therefore I would not have followed up on this opportunity anyway. It has been interesting to read all of the different points of view.
I do believe there are people out there making money with this company, but I must say, it sounds very very shady, and does have a Network Marketing aspect to it. I don't know if I could live with myself if I was misleading people INTENTIONALLY into an opportunity just to make a couple hundred bucks off of each one. These kinds of people are the lowest forms of life on the planet.

Research with the state- not disgruntled people
AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Wednesday, February 11, 2004After proving myself as an agent, I was promoted into management. I was not required to bring people into the business to earn this promotion. My results with my clients earned the promotion.
I have since worked my way up to a Regional manager and make a very substantial living.
I keep seeing people write that American Income is multi-level marketing. Obviously, these people don't understand the insurance industry or the sales industry as a whole. Managers, in all sales organizations receive overrides. As an agent, this is the best thing that can ever happen to you. It means that your manager has a vested interest in how well you do. The more money you make, the more money your manager makes. What could be better.
If someone wants an opporunity to forge a life for themself based on what they put into a career vs. what somebody dictates you will earn, than American Income is a dream come true.
If you want to see the true reputation of American Income then go to the state insurance commission. They will give true facts. Don't waste your time listening to someone who is disgruntled. If that was the case, than no company in America would be worth working for. After all, every company has somebody who has failed. And of course, it is the company's fault, not the fault of the individual.
By the way, I know a person that is personally worth over $50 million. He refuses to spend more than $5 for a tie, yet donates millions of dollars each year to charities. Does this make him a bad person. I think not. He is someone with his priorities in the right place.
One more thing. I am a college dropout. It doesn't take a college degree to see a failure lashing out at success.

I choose AIL because of the opportunities they had in the Des Moines area and the income potential.
AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Sunday, February 08, 2004I choose AIL because of the opportunities they had in the Des Moines area and the income potential. I also choose AIL because they were very upfront with me about what I would be doing and how I would be getting paid. I have visited only one other office in the country but based on what I have read, I believe that this is something that the company must improve on to save its name.
After I was given the job offer, I enrolled into a 2 day class and signed up for the State Life and Health Test. The class, test, and license cost me approx. $300 which I paid out of my own pocket. There are two reasons that the company doesn't pay for these costs. 1. Sales Managers are cheap. 2. You can work for any other company with that license.
After passing the test on Friday, I started my training on Monday out of the Omaha Office. The other person in the training class, Laura, had been a nurse for several years and had no insurance background like myself. I thought it was strange that we were in the same situation but I was just excited to start something new.
After 2 weeks of training in Omaha which was unpaid including expenses), I started my career with AIL. I was given a list of roughly 100 union workers and setup as many appointments as possible. Because I was excited about my new job and worked hard, my first month at AIL I made nearly $4,000.
For my first 3 weeks at an agent contract, I only made 26% of what I sold but I was moved up to 32% starting my 4th week. My favorite thing about working for AIL is that all promotions are all laid out. I knew what I needed to do to make what I wanted to make.
After another successful month in April, I was again promoted to a supervising agent position where I now made about 34%(5% raise). I began to become involved in the recruiting process only 8 weeks after starting. My role was to call on resumes that we received from monster.com and hotjobs.com and setup an interview.
After 4 months with the company, I began conducting my own interviews. I currently hold the highest management contract with the company and my focus is on training, managing, and recruiting of new employees.
Based on what I have read, here are some of the main differences there may be between my office and others. I cannot speak for all offices in the country, only my own.
1. We do not charge for training or make money on it. Agents must obtain their life and health license on their own.
2. We do not charge for materials or leads. Agents must provide transportation to appointments.
3. People make money. The girl Denisse said she made sometimes $50 a week while working 80 hours a week. Unsure what she doing with her time.
4. We are upfront about how much money they will make. I was told I would make $40-50,000 my first year and I have.
5. We have benefits. I receive a check each month for $160 my our health insurance and I am covered for $10,000 for life insurance.
6. All leads are provided to agents. Agents do not have to sell friends and families, cold call, or door knock. If they want to sell those people, they can but are not pressured to.
7. Our office invests money in its agents. Leads can cost up to $20 each to provide for its agents. Most insurance companies charge their agents for leads or are not given any at all.
AIL gave me an opportunity which was the most challenging things I have done. I came in to the company with no sales, insurance or management experience and I am now in charge of training, managing and recruiting new agents in our area as the office manager.
AIL IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. To be successful at AIL, you must be willing to work 70-80 hours a week including weekends your first year. If you are not willing to do that, you will never have success no matter how many people you can "sucker" to work for you. To become a manager, you have to show that you can be a successful agent so you will be able to train others.
I love guys like Martin in Charlotte who call themselves a victim of AIL because they "wasted" 2 hours of his time while being unemployed. He goes on and on about something he knows nothing about but makes sure to add that he has a $2900 suit even though he hated the fact that the guy who interviewed him talked about money 80% of the time. Make up your mind buddy.
I encourage all young, driven, and ambitious people to consider AIL because if the endless opportunities and income potential. AIL has doubled its agents in the last 4 years when most companies have had substantial layoffs and cuts.

Thats right. A $30,000 a month operation of getting money out of unknowing job seekers. But how do they do it, and how does it continue? ...
... all the while the office that hires you is making $300 a pop for every person they train. >>
This is not so. It is a requirement of the state insurance regulatory authorities that prospective insurance producers take a license exam preparatory class from an approved school. The schools that are on the NEVADA STATE INSURANCE DIVISION web site, for example, as approved schools, typically charge about $300. These schools are not owned by American Income Life Insurance Co. It is a heavy duty test, the insurance producer test in the state of Nevada. Anyone who passes it, my hat's off to them.
Insurance agents (now called "producers") are in business for themselves. They have business start-up costs like any other entrepreneurs. Producers with American Income Life are not employees. They have to pay their own travel expenses, school expense, office expense, phone bills, etc. Someone said she spent $3,000 to start her insurance business with American Income Life. Wow, that sounds great, if that's all it costs to get into such a great career.
Insurance sales is consistently one of the top paying careers. It is not a career suited for people who think it is wrong for hard workers and their supervisors to make a lot of money. The Life Insurance business is a proud American tradition, invented in America, known for high integrity in honoring their contracts. It is also highly regulated by each state. Anyone inquiring about a particular insurance company need only go to their state's insurance regulatory department. There, you will get information much more true and reliable than what I have seen in this forum.

READ THIS!!!! THE HEADS UP ON AMERICAN INCOME LIFE
AUTHOR: Martin - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 03, 2006
POSTED: Friday, September 05, 2003After much investigation (an becoming a victim once myself), I've finally got the heads up on American Income Life. And here's the operation, the real deal, from start to finish.
American Income Life, a subsidiary of Torchmark, LLC, to put this as simply as possible, is really just one huge MLM. Thats right. It's a very complex, very clever pyramid scheme. And I have it figured out.
Like many of you, not too long ago I was becoming very frustrated with the job search, especially after recently graduating. Then one day, I get a call from American Income Life. They say that they love my resume, and that I should come in for an interview and talk about "rockin' and rollin' with the Insurance business". Now, keep this in mind, my resume is mainly as a customer service, technical support representative. How on earth am I a perfect candidate to sell insurance? But none the less, I think (stupidly) that there is something that they see in there that is convincing them I am potential for a career in insurance sales, and I agree to an interview.
Quick Fact: Now, the caller ID from this call for my interview read "Hughes & Associates". A private office.
I was told to wear a suit, and to get "spiffed up" because the "Regional State Manager" would be in the office. So I wear one of my nicest, ($2,900) Adolfo suits, given to me by my father as a gift.
The next day, I go to the Hughes & Associates office. I park, and walk in, and noticably there is a small stick-in-the ground sign that reads "AMERICAN INCOME" with a large yellow arrow pointing to the office, so I proceed to walk in. I enter a waiting room, with about 25 adults (at least), filling out clipboards. They ask me if I'm here for an interview and I say "Yes," and I'm given a clip board and told to sit down. So I do so.
The clip board asks questions like "Why do u want to work for American Income Life", etc, and asks me about my personal and professional experiences and what I want out of a career. So, me being my usual bull**** self, i give a pretty **** good answer. "To establish a career in a professional environment in order to meet my short and longterm goals, as well as achieve a substantial income in doing so." At any rate, after filling out this clip board I am asked to come into a man's office for an interview, so I do so.
I sit down. As I am sitting down I notice he is playing with his tie. Hmmm... I read the label on the back, it says "PURITAN". Puritan... a brand of necktie... Yes. A Walmart brand. That was one of the first heads up. Why would a professional making 6 figures a year wear a $5 tie from Walmart? I pass this off as, "Meh? He's conservative."
He then explains to me that I will go through a process of 3 interviews, that this is just the initial phase and that if asked to come back, I would be considered for a position as an agent/manager in training. Sounds good to me. He then asks me what it is I want out of my career. But listen to how he words it...
"So what it is that you are trying to achieve out of your position in your career?"
I laughingly answer, "I want a career with a lot of growth.". He then says, "Want to know what I wrote on the clipboard?" I say, "Yes." He says "Interested in making a 6 figure income." Hmmm... Not what I said at all. He then continues to talk, and talk, and talk about the potential for making 6 figures in this industry. He talks about how he is retired military after 22 years and has been with the company for 5 weeks and has already moved up because of his "managerial position" as he puts it. After listening to him ramble, I think to myself, isn't it unprofessional to talk about money 80% of the time, and also, why would someone making six figures, have bad grammar?
I leave the interview, wondering, pondering, feeling a little distastful, and feeling a little uneasy. So I go home and quickly hit google, the forums, and everything. And boom, there it was. If not for my own instinct, I would've been had. I would've been yet another victim to a malitious and highly sophisticated plot, to scam us, weary job seekers out of OUR money.
And now you ask, how? Well here is how:
Think about it. It's actually very clever, very smart, and very possible. On average, with 6.5% unemployement, in a city of 1,000,000 (average US metropolitan population), at least 65,000 people would be seeking employment. In my town, Charlotte, unemployment is even higher, 8%. So that means 80,000 people could be hitting these job boards, and postings, and ads everyday.
Now consider this. With Department of Labor statistics estimating at least 40% of these structurally unemployed persons, being sales professionals, that means that 32,000 people would be seeking sales jobs, very single day.
So, how does this tie into American Income Life. Okay, think further. They attack job boards. I searched Monster.com, Hotjobs.com, CareerBuilder.com, there were over 1,500 job postings by AIL. Thats right. 1,500.
As soon as 1 of every 32,000 sales professionals seeking employment everyday searchs for "SALES", AIL would pop up. They have a great ad, offering huge pay, little experience, no educational requirements, training, bonuses, trips, incentives, everything that will put a nice furry cushion under your jobless ass. And so, you give them your information, and you're invited to an interview.
And here's how the thing goes down:
You come in for a series of interviews, and they prospect whether or not you are sucker enough to accept a position.
Virtually anyone who decides to come back, comes back, but part of the pitch is, they make you think you have to be "one-of-a-kind".
When you come back, twice, and finally a third time, they figure they have weeded out those who have caught on to the scheme, and that you are the final suckers, and are willing to proceed further. They've already wasted 3 weeks of your time by now.
Then, they put you through a training course. For $300, you could easily buy materials, a book, and study for the $99 Insurance Licensure elsewhere. However, you train with them. So, they have already made $300 off of YOU. You have payed them. Think about it.
$300 x 25 a week on average = $30,000 a month.
Thats right. A $30,000 a month operation of getting money out of unknowing job seekers. But how do they do it, and how does it continue?
In otherwords, they are always hiring, because just that--THEY ARE ALWAYS HIRING. They hire you, they dont compensate you for expenses, they put you through a bull**** training seminar, which mostly talks about money, and then IF you pass the Insurance Exam, you go out and sell insurance for the person who hires you.
But what the hell does that have to do with AIL or Torchmark? Think about it. You can become a manager in 6 months if you get people to work under you, and sell life insurance also. And the money goes all the way to the top. In otherwords, if you get 10 people to work under you, you get a piece of what they make, and if they get 10 people under them, they get a piece of what they make, and so on and so forth, all the while the office that hires you is making $300 a pop for every person they train.
This can become a very big operation, and generate a lot of income. For who? Not for you. For the person in charge of it all. The person who owns that office, in my case, Mr. Hughes, of Hughes & Associates.
What do you get? A measely commission only compensation, based at 26% of what you write. The rest follows its way up to the top. Right to the top of the pyramid. Thats right folks. Thats MLM in a nutshell, pure and simple. But who would've thought a scam within a scam could sell life insurance?
Easy. Its a product. Its easy. Everybody needs it. They make the customers feel guilty (what are you gonna leave your family when u die?), and so they buy into it. They target a niche market so that they can generate absolute leads....
...wait a minute... absolute leads. Now think, never during any of the interviews, or any of the training, did they talk about the customer, or the leads. But heres where Torchmark comes in.
Torchmark is just the overseer of the plot. Torchmark, based in Waco, TX, is a telemarketing solutions provider. They hit up the US Postal Service, Telephone Companies, everything they can, and even pose as Union Members to gain leads to their niche markets.
They also own:
United American Insurance
Cornerstone Benefits America
American Income Life
National Income Life
United Life & Accident
Wait, tahts 1,2,3,4, (5) Insurance companies under the same corporate overseer. Why would they have competitors within their own corporate entity, and is this legal.
Yes, it is.
And the unfortunate thing is the reason why. In furthering the longevity of this pyramid scheme, since most schemes dry up after a short while, they establish other companies in other niche markets, and make each one appear to be a different employer. But no matter what, trust me, the money is going to the same **** place.
Torchmark generated over $800,000,000 in profits last year.
I hope this is starting to make sense. I hope that if you are, or have considered, or have even been victimized by AIL, or any of its sister companies, or its corporate overseer, that this will answer some questions you have, or head you away from even considering a 1st interview with this disgusting scam.
It's a shame, for many of us, it came too late. Search this board, search the internet, you'll find many horror stories of so called "employees" of AIL who have been victimized.
On another note, you should also know that you are not actually ever an employee of AIL. They offer no benefits. You are an "independent contractor", just a fancy word for... "home based business". Keep that in mind.
The maneurisms and the dialouge of these plots, and these scams, and these companies may be clever, they may be complex, and sophisticated almost to the point of impossible detection,
But also keep in mind, they will dry up soon. And in the end, the only ones who will benefit, will be the corporate directors, the President of Torchmark, and those at the top of the pyramid. Us left at the bottom, we are just the afterproduct.
The real victims are the ones holding the useless insurance policies, who have been hassled by the byproduct of a con-artist set out to make it rich in a jobless economy.
Good luck, and god bless. Hope this makes sense.

Recruiting is their goal

POSTED: Friday, July 18, 2003They are only concerned about recruiting others to work for them... that's the money you pay for "school" which isn't a school at all.. they give you materials that you can buy in any book store for far less... if anyone has ever seen the movie Boiler Room, you will understand the sick burning feeling in your stomach when you here their pitch.. I was very lucky to trust my instincts and do a touch more research before I accepted their off for employment..
After calling their HR director (for Brister-Gigilione/ New England) and asking two questions
"Would I be required to sign an IBA (contract for exclusive use of my license)" I was told yes and I responded with "Ok.".. next I asked if I would be required to recruit others.. I was told it depended on the position I was interested in... you see, the performance based promotions are based on who else you can dupe into taking this job, ripping off your hard earned $355... but I kept these thoughts silent and I asked "Well if I want to be a manager and so forth"...
I was met with this scripted response: Sara (HR) "Well that's a pretty bad attitude to have, but yes, because you will be running your own business" I'm sorry Sara did something rub you wrong, all I asked was a question and I made sure I asked it in a sincere, inquisitive way.. because I expected something to effect after reading rip-off report and e-groups comments on the way this company does business.. besides if I'm running my own business than why do I have a contract with you and why are you "hiring" me...
I want to thank everyone that kept me from getting ripped off... spread the word... American Income Life has many sister companies.. all under Torchmark Corp.. (National Income Life is another for example)

Yes the work was hard but that's what it takes. Many times these days men and women think that when they get out of college people are lined up to hire them, this is not true.
The insurance business is tough, and leads are everything. American Income has more leads than any other company.
No one owes anything to you, you have to earn it through hard work and determanation.
If you want to earn great money by just showing up every day this is not the career for you. Find a goverment job.
