We made arrangements for our move in the Southeast with Major Van Lines (majorvanlinesusa.com), who appears to be the front company for the infamous American Knights Moving & Storage, Inc. At the time the movers arrived, we were hard-pressed to vacate the premises and had already taken down our internet. We were not expecting Knights, but had to work with it. Although it took longer to load than we expected, it seemed to be done well.
Two months later, when the moving van arrived, the first words from the driver's lips were, "as soon as I saw your goods in storage, I knew this was a bad move. I've taken photos and I'm going to speak to the top man in the company."
Our belongings looked like someone had loaded and unloaded them with a fork lift. Boxes were broken into, repacked, re-labeled, computer desk was said to be completely destroyed, furniture had legs broken off, wood scarred, caved in, leather torn, it was awful. Everything was so disorganized, that it was an exhausting day, telling the movers where to take items. And it was so shocking and upsetting to see our belongings in such terrible condition; in addition, the movers were in a huge hurry, explaining they needed to get going by 5pm.
We are working people, and were not able to go through all of our boxes at the time. But, as the past 3 weeks have unfolded we have found countless items missing, and almost every piece of furniture was damaged or destroyed. Chainsaw, weedeater, ladder, tools of all kinds are missing, and we're still unpacking. We were literally robbed, and the ones delivering the goods, in hind sight, were very experienced at weaving a tale to cover themselves while they dumped off our stuff as fast as they could and ran. Pitiful that people can live so dishonestly and sleep at night. We were not in the situation that we could insure the move, so evidently that is a sign that they can throw you to the wolves, and they passed us to a bunch of thieves and robbers.
We understand that things are only so important, and we count ourselves lucky to have interacted with such people and have not come out worse, however, we are concerned about the other consumers who will be taken advantage of. Innocent people, who may have a worse time than we did. Fortunately, we had transported a good share of our valuables. It is not right, and yet these people have apparently been getting away with it for some time. The Major Van Lines representatives were familiar with the names of the American Knights people, so Major Van Lines presents the clean front, and then Knights shows up. We would have been better off selling most of our household goods and buying when we got to our new location, than to have had our furniture destroyed and so much stolen.
In short, if you cannot insure a move, beware. And do not use the services of Major Van Lines, or American Knights Moving & Storage, Inc., they are con-artists, thieves and robbers. Operating behind the front of movers. They go through your stuff, abuse it, and dump the leftovers on you, and charge you good money for their "services".
