Don't waste your time and gas money working for these people.  There were 12 people in my class.  4 months later, I was the only one left.  The class after mine (just 2 weeks later) had no one left a month or so.  They have the highest turn over of any company I've ever heard of.  When I was hired they promised $10/hr plus commissions which I got, initially, after signing a crap load of paperwork which does nothing to protect you.

4 months later in walks the boss saying that he can't afford to pay the hourly wage to anyone any more and reduces everyone's pay scale.  Since I didn't sign a 1099 and they require you be at work at a particular time, they have to pay you minimum wage - and that's what it ends up being!  A month later, I walk into the office to overhear a conversation of between the office person and the prospective employee and learned that they're hiring the new employees at the same rate of pay they told me that couldn't afford any more!

They promise the possibility of benefits too but that's non-existent because you have to pay the entire thing yourself and it's expensive - you can get it much cheaper elsewhere.  If you don't want to ruin your pay history (prospective employers can and do run those, you know) and you don't want to end up making minimum wage, then don't work here.  Otherwise, go for it.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

American Management Services - No No No..!

AUTHOR: Manny - (U.S.A.)

I believe that American Management Services is an extremely and totally morally bereft Company, it's business practices are reprehensible and the manner in which it treats its employees is profoundly awful.

I worked there for several months. Their promises regarding expense reimbursement were often easily characterized as a prolonged stall tactic in the hopes that you, as an employee, would simply stop asking.

Their purported "pay" was significantly less than minimum wage. I believe it's employee attrition rate must be in the 400% annually neighborhood. One person from my training group of 12 lasted more than three months.

At the time I worked there, appointments for Tier 1 associates such as myself were made under the false premise that a representative from a quasi or actual governmental agency were stopping by to lend a hand.

While this would, of course be denied, I've retained multiple faxes that, in writing, fully support these obvious fraudulent practice. Representations that were made to me regarding potential clients, travel distances (in my case, often 200-300 miles per day, commonly 5 days a week, and more often to eventually hostile "clients" who were duped into the meeting or, conversely, bad appointments that were never real in the first place.

My worst experience was a 175 mile drive for a 8:00 am meeting with a company that had no idea I was coming or what I was talking about. I averaged over a thousand miles of driving a week, and had to fight for every penny of reimbursement that had been promised to me, while at the same time being docked X dollars from every expense check (when one actually came) to pay for the "lease" (or something) on a 100% non-functioning and months before returned "Blackberry".

The "in the field" training that was promised was never delivered, but all of the above pales in comparison to the revelations made public regarding the character and criminal activities of the sales manager and trainer, hypothetically then in a key management position at AMS, Mr. Gary Antonino.

Mr Antonino and his brother were both convicted of bilking a large group of people, by and large comprised of the elderly, for millions upon millions of dollars in what was referred to as Ponzi scheme. The same person who was represented to us as our mentor and guide as well as our trainer and was sentenced to 87 months in the federal prison system, and that pretty much encapsulates what I believe that American Management Services is all about. In my opinion, this is a terrible and shameful Company who's "poster boy ended up as a despicable convicted felon and things went downhill from there.

I am sure you just mis-understood

AUTHOR: The Captain - (United States of America)

It is sad to say many new Reps of companies rely so heavily upon startup pay they can't make it without it.  Sorry to hear you were obviously one of the many who have tried and failed, but that does not make a company bad,  or you either.  Just not a good fit.  Perhaps your skills were not high enough to perform the Job, without an assisted pay plan.  The Start-up pay that so many Larger companies offer is to get someone going until they can make it without it.  Kind of like training wheels on a bike.  To be so upset as to misunderstand is Sad.  Some Jobs are very difficult and not for everyone.  I know from my business its hard to find the right people.  The more difficult the Job, the more difficult it is to find the right person.  Perhaps you should read Zig Ziglars book " Over the top" Your not a failure, It was just not a good fit.  I have had dealings with American Management Services and found them to be quite helpful.
