An ambulance is for transporting Pt's who are sick or injured and need highly trained medical personnel to attend to them. A taxi gives you a ride, and maybe a conversation.
That being said if all you needed was a ride the taxi would have been a better choice, not only for you but for the ambulance crew as well. When you take an ambulance out of service for a BS reason like "I dont have a car but need a ride to my scheduled appointment" that leaves a true emergency possibly unprotected.
You deserve that bill as it cost money to operate those big shinny trucks and pay those highly trained personnel. Maybe next time you will call the taxi.
If you needed a ride you should have called a cab.
