They gave me a rental car as my policy did state (25 days) how ever the fine print said or until they deem the vehicle a total loss which was about a week. They then sent me an offer which was about 1/3 of the value, leaving me over $6000 left to pay on the note) along with a power of attorney form to sign to release them and were pushing to have it signed. Now almost 2 months later and countless letters from me pointing out all the options that were left out and still not corrected, they have come up several hundred still remaining aprox.$3000 less of were they should be.
Still leaving me about $5900.to pay. This vehicle was a 99,show room condition,61000 miles(pictures)They are now trying to force me to go the personal appraiser route and will not bring my van back to my location were it was taken from so my appraiser can see it.Untill this is settled I can't switch insurance companies. Can anybody assist me with this? Everybody who is currently with American National, beware. You may want to consider a move.

Your van being taking to another garage is a common practice, usually they do this because they have a contract with a company and will not pay nearly as much in storage as the place it happens to be.
Whenever you have an accident and the tow company thinks its going to be a total loss its always a good idea to start looking for another vehicle, since it is the practice of insurance companies to only allow you in the rental for the minium amount of time as possible.
As far as them offering you less then your payoff value GAP insurance is the best thing, everyone should opt for this if they are in an upside down loan which from your figures i would say really upside down.
All insurance companies practices are about the same, unfortunatly you just happened to go through this expierence with this insurance company if it has been progressive their name would have been here instead.
