I did not buy a puppy from here, but I feel my experience looking at a puppy should be noted. The staff at American Puppy were very nice over the phone on my inquiry of a Wheaten Terrier. They called me promptly to let me know they had arrived. Price is an issue for my family, but they would not disclose the price over the phone. "Each puppy is individually priced, we have to scan them." Ok, so we drove out 45 minutes to see one female (when they let on there were MANY! There were actually only 2, the other spoken for) WHen they brought the sweet puppy out, she was breathing through her mouth and terrified.
My first impression was not good. The puppy did not warm up for our visit, but thats ok I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I asked for the price. Hahhaha this terrified puppy could only go home with us for $2400! Hahahaa. This was hysterical to me as their advertisement and previous phone calls stated you will never overpay for the puppy. They are rated and price is determined by their overall quality.
I immediatley handed the puppy back and apologized that our price range was $600. Well my sweet-talking salesgirl went to go adjust the price to $2000 and handed the puppy back to me still terrified a couple more kisses and comfort wow! She came back again and lowered the price to 1500! Really!
I still couldn't find myself dishing that much out especially without being able to connect with the creature. It huddled under the chair now and squirmed away from us. Bye Bye puppy, we're leaving...but! Low and behold! This girl has adjusted the price once again! $1000. My husband and I are going to have to talk about it.
I left feeling like I just dealt with used car dealers it was so fishy, the whispering of secret prices and all the hubbub of their warranties and promises. I am so happy I found this rip off report site and the warnings before I left the house with my heart set on a puppy. Beware of these sweet-talking liars.
