I have been battling with the American Reading Club since December and after refusing to give up have caught them in thier own lies. I am about to call my local police station, BBB, etc; To expose them for the liars and thieves that they are. After trying to cancel my "account" the next day after they called me, I was given the run around and so they settled by telling me that they would put my account on hold until March. In February I recieved multiple calls telling me that my account was past due. I even had an employee tell me that trying to cancel my account was illegal, and we proceeded to have a yelling match because I told him that "He ought to be ashamed of himself for trying to scam my husband and I because my husband is about to deploy to Iraq and fight for the gentlemans freedom, just so he could rob people." I was devestated and was about to give up hope then I started to piece things together. This is a two bit operation people; please don't let yourself fall victim to them. My husband pointed out to me that everytime they would transfer a call it sounded like all they would do is pass the phone off to the next person, I even once had an employee answer her cellular phone while she was talking to me. Even this however is not grounds for calling the police etc. Here is where they screwed up. One employee called me and was telling me about past conversations, qouting me exactly and the people I talked to and telling me that they recorded my phone conversations. Here is the thing, they never told me that they were recording my phone conversations. By the grace of God I had taken business law in highschool and knew this to be a FEDERAL OFFENSE. I kept this in mind, as I was transfered to a "manager" who happened to be the gentelman that I had had a yelling match with, he kept on talking and talking until I got his attention, and that was when I notified him that I remembered who he was. to qoute my words exactly "Sir weren't you just an employee last week" he proceeded to childishly snapback, "No I was a manager" then hung up on me. Another victory for me. I have sat on this information for days reeling over wether or not I should report this information; and then when I saw all of these reports by consumers just like you, the people who have a decent jobs and who are just trying to make a living like my husband and I. I decided no more. Today I will be notifying whomever I can get to of this injustice that is The American Reading Club, Godwilling they will never scam another american again. I really hope that God blesses all of you in your battles with these evil people.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Class action lawsuit

AUTHOR: Ratsnaggle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 13, 2008

I used to work for this company and I can offer you an explanation as to why you are charged on your credit card when you weren't even solicited.

First off, they buy lists of people's names, address, telephone number, and also they obtain their credit card information! This is completely illegal if they keep the credit card information on site instead of having it secured at a third party location. They may tell people that they have access to only the last 4 digits of the card number for "verification purposes" when in reality they are staring at the WHOLE CARD NUMBER! WHOA! Big trouble! And what if the peron looking at the card is a thief and wants to order something offline? Whoa! More trouble! The whole company is totally crooked and they seriously need to be in major investigation by the FBI. If there is any attorney generals or people who want to get together to file a class action lawsuit contact me at (((ROR redacted))) and I will testify in court!
