A friend of mine wanted a blimp ride for her 50th birthday. I found Blimp World at anaheimblimp.com on Google and called Terry Barnes. After saving for 3 months, I came up with the $600 he charged for two, one-hour blimp rides.

Upon receipt of the $600, Terry Barnes mailed me two tickets for a blimp ride, with the instructions to call when I was ready to go on the ride. However, the blimp was being serviced at the time, so wait about a month before calling.

I waited the specified time and called. Had to leave a message. E-mailed him and got a phone call. Some insurance problems, call back in a few weeks.

Waited. Called back. Terry had to go to Washington, D. C. to talk to congress about the insurance problems. Was testifying before a congressional committee. Will take a few weeks.

Waited. Called back. Insurance is being revised. Wait two months and call back.

Waited. Called back. No answer. He had changed phone numbers.

Went on-line. Did some research and found a new phone number. Called. Sent an E-mail. Got a phone call. He couldn't give me the rides (insurance problem) but would send me a refund as soon as he got back in town.

No refund came. Called again. He had to go back to Washington, D.C. to provide security for the Bush inauguration. Would send me a refund as soon as he got back.

It's been over a year. No refund.

I called Nick Nicolary, the man who Terry Barnes advertised on the web site as his chief pilot. Mr. Nicolary said he spoke to Terry Barnes once about the possibility of testing a blimp for him. Has never worked for him nor piloted any of his blimps. That's when I realized that Blimp World, aka Anaheim Blimp, is a scam.

Now the web page no longer has Mr. Nicolary's photo nor any reference to him. Which tells me that he called Terry Barnes and told him to remove the false information. That Terry Barnes has recently updated his web page. And that Terry Barnes is still selling non-existent blimp rides to unsuspecting victims.

Now he has added a new rip-off to his web site - Advertise on a Blimp! He's looking for new victims. Please don't be taken in by this fraud.

Stop buying stuff off the internet! For god sakes, you know you'll be cheated.

I live in Anaheim. That's what attracted me to this complaint. I never heard of anybody selling blimp rides.

I think I'd see a blimp flying around overhead. They're kind of hard to miss.

I did hear of balloon rides. Hot air balloons. But, not here in Anaheim. Far away. Out in the desert.

In fact, I don't even think it's legal to have blimps here. I do see the Goodyear blimp over sporting events. But, no passenger blimps.

Clearly, the whole thing is a scam. You never buy anything off the internet. Christ, everything on there is some kind of scam.

I'd venture to say that half of all the complaints on here come from the internet. The other half come from the telephone.

Stop answering the phone. And, quit buying trash off the internet. End of all the fraud in your life!

Plus, you waited like forever. Listening to one half-assed excuse after another. First it was the president. Then, the blimp had a flat tire. What's next, all the helium leaked out?

As soon as you see the deal going q***r, you call up the bank and reverse the charges.

A year later, who knows? Lawsuit? Police intervention?

Hell, I'd stop what I was doing and hunt the b*****d down. Hook him up to your bumper. Take him for a little ride of your own. Trust me, a mile later, he'd be more than happy to settle up for $600.

That's assuming there was still enough of him left to hand over the money. A mile of dragging on the road? Who can say?

That's the only sure way that I know. Unfortunately, it's also highly illegal to do that.

See what you get yourself into when you fool around on the internet? The internet is only for reading and looking at pictures.

You never, in a million years, in your wildest dreams, should ever think of actually buying something from it!

That way, this never happens.

If you wanted a ride, you buy the tickets and pay the money 5 seconds before you step onto the blimp. That way, you actually see that there is a real blimp there in the first place.

Christ, this is such common sense!

You know the world is filled with fraud. The minute you bend over, somebody is going to be right there to screw you. You need to always be on guard.

I'm sorry to go off on you like this. But, I read this same exact complaint a million times. I sent good money to the internet. I got nothing back. Over and over.

This never happens to me. I never buy anything off the internet. That's why.

I'm sorry to hear that you got taken like this. But, in order to put a stop to it, you simply must learn one thing.

Never buy anything from the internet! Or, the telephone. You always pay in person, and get the item or service right then and there.

No picture of Blimp

Went on the website, One thing I thought odd was that there was no picture of the blimp. Cheap a*s website. Since he takes checks by mail you can call the Postal inspectors. Also contact the FAA and see if there is a blimp at all. Maybe the OC shierff can help.
