Our P/T ordered an Intensity 10 unit for my husband, following an auto accident.  They billed my insurance 795.00 for a 39.95 (verified on the internet) unit.  I received the bill for 500.00 (my portion of my insurance deductible).  I called them, and they got very indignant, claming that if a doctor writes a prescription for this unit, this is the "globally accepted" price, and "in light of my situation", they would accept whatever I could pay.  I told her that she was already paid nearly 8x the price found on the web for ths item, and she would not be receiving a dime from me.  After a lengthy hold, they agreed to accept the payment that they received as payment in full, and as a "gesture of goodwill" would waive the $500.00 bill.   Beware consumers.  If you need medical products, do your homework.  This isn't a 795.00 unit, it is a 39.95 unit, This is a gross abuse of the insurance industry, and we wonder what is wrong.   15.00 tylenols in the hospital, 795.00 for a $40.00 piece of equipment.  Protect yourselves, and before you allow your doctor to just go ahead and order anything for you, check out prices.  I offered to send the unit back, but of course not, they didn't want to return the windfall payment they already received from my insurer.

Just wrong on every level.

You want to get paid...really?

In your rebuttal, you state that "you expect to be paid".  My dear, you were paid 200x what the unit RETAILS for, by my insurance (and every other insurance) company out there.  Usual and customary is a joke, just because you have the ABILITY to rip people and insurance companies off, doesn't mean you should.  Period.

100% accurate on the scam

As a former employee I agree 100% that this company is a rip off. First off they actually compensate the chiropractors and PT's $100 for every modality that they prescribe. That turns the modalities into an income source for the doctor rather than presribed as needed. Some of their doctors prescribe 100's a month just to increase their income. AH mainly hires female sales reps and encourage them to flirt with the doctors to gain their business. In return these reps are making 6 figures and passing that cost to the patient with the copay. Many of the large insurance companies will not work with AH and have filed multiple law suits for their practice. I have seen them charge insurance companies with auto accident patients as much as $5000 for a unit they buy in bulk for less than $30.00. I stayed for 2 months and left because I couldn't believe the owner ran things the way he does.

We accept what the insurance carriers deem usual and customary

It is unfortunate that you were not made aware that you would be billed for your deductible. This is usually a standard operating procedure for healthcare providers.   Customarily this is information reviewed as part of our new patient follow up process.

In the way of background, all medical equipment providers have established retail prices.  These prices are determined by several factors including, but not limited to, 1) geographic location, 2) competitor pricing, and 3) usual and customary (as determined by the insurance carrier).  Analgesic Healthcare (AHC) is in line with all other comparable providers.

Analgesic Healthcare is licensed, nationally accredited, has been in business since 1978, and is committed to excellent patient care.  AHC provides FDA approved electro medical devices requiring a physician’s prescription, professional fitting, and monitoring.

Analgesic accepts what the insurance carrier deems as usual and customary and adjusts the balance.  It is highly unlikely that AHC received a windfall based on the numbers you have provided, however, this can’t be confirmed because of the anonymous nature of the complaint.

We can surely understand any confusion that could be caused by information found on the internet, however, in good faith AHC provided a product/service with the expectation to be paid.  We feel that we had the patient’s best interest in mind when extending the courtesies and discounts.
