My daughter purchased a 16gb ipod nano as a Christmas gift for me. I have tried unsuccesfully to make it work since Dec 25 2008. It is now Jan 6 2009 and I only have three days left to return it. The closest store is over 200 miles from me.

Apple products are the most difficult to work on the market unless you have a lot of time on your hands to learn them. I have tried to get support on line with no success because their website requires knowledge of apple to negotiate it.

I seem to have no recourse. Apple wants to charge me for lessons. I can read. Why do they not include an owners manual? This thing is expensive.

I want everyone to know that Apple does not care whether you learn to use it or not. That is why they only give you two weeks to return it. Shame on the State of California for letting them operate this company in their state.

I have been in the sound reinforcement business for over thirty years and have an extensive background in electronics. I have never encountered any company with this low level of support.

I don't find that your claims are valid based on my personal experiences with them for over 30 years.

Apple has been known to have some of the best customer relations in America.

My personal experience is that they will bend over backwards to help me with any problems I have had.

I have even witnessed them replacing product that was damaged by a customer by their own admission!

The best solution will be to follow the previous commentors suggestions, or head to your nearest Apple Store. I can guarantee you that if you do these simple things that Apple will make sure your problem is resolved.

If you are having trouble navigating their web site, it is not an issue of whether it is "Apple" specific or not, it would most likely be that you are not familiar with navigating web sites in general.

Apple doesn't include printed manuals because most people don't read the manuals, and it wastes a lot of trees. If you want to print one out, then feel free.

Difficult?

"Apple products are the most difficult to work on the market unless you have a lot of time on your hands to learn them."
- I am sorry but WHAT? If you have as extensive knowlege of electronics as you say the Nano should be very simple for you to use at least IMO. I know people who can barly use a DVD Player and have no problems at all.

"...because their website requires knowledge of apple to negotiate it...."
- Again WHAT? The only thing that could possibly confuse you is which generation iPod Nano you have. However, since you just received it you can be pretty sure it is 4th Generation. From there it took me about 30 seconds and 3 clicks to find an 80 page Users Guide on their web site.

Go to apple.com
Click on Support at the top of the page
Under iPod + iTunes click on iPod Manuals
About 6 entries down you will see the link for the iPod Nano(4th Generation) Guide

"...That is why they only give you two weeks to return it..."
- Two weeks is becoming very common for most electronic purchases.
