I just got back from an Apple Computer store where I was told that the 15G iPod I spent $450 on 14 months ago is now worthless. It's only two months out of warranty and needs repairs, but the repairs would cost as much as a new one. This unit was not dropped or abused in any way. It just stopped working within weeks of the warranty running out.

How any company can charge this much for a product and just basically tell you to throw it away after one year is beyond me. A true ripoff. To add insult to injury, I spent another $50 on phone "tech support" last week. (After one year they won't even talk to you unless you give them $50). When you add up what I've spent buying songs from Apple, buying accessories and such, my iPod paperweight cost me well over $600.

Don't buy one of these things thinking you'll be able to enjoy it for years. I did. Now all it does is show me the Apple logo on its little screen.

Someone took a bite out of the Apple, but Apple took a bite out of me.

If you are suggesting an Apple Care extension Mark...

AUTHOR: J.m. - (U.S.A.)

Yes, of course Mark is going to suggest that extended warrantee. It's another $60.00. That's not to mention all the other accessory charges I am sure this consumer paid for being that you can't remove the d*mn thing from the box unless you have them... Like the protector sock which costs $24.95 even though it looks like something that cost less that $1 to manufacture. Or the AC Adapter. Another $29.00.

iPods -- in fact anything MAC is equal to Money Pit. They should rename their company to MPC - Money Pit Computers -- because that's exactly what they are.

AppleCare??

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

So what IS wrong with your iPod? You didn't say. Battery died? you can get aftermarket ones that will work longer because the technology has improved. It DID last thru the warranty didn't it? Why didn't you get Applecare warranty extension? BTW, compressed MP3's don't sound THAT GOOD anyway...
