Argosy University takes money from students and hinders them from graduating. Santa Monica California

I can relate to your story. I passed my comp for my Educational Leadership Doctoral degree after maintaining a 3.9 - 4.0 grade point average for the past two years. I applied for financial aid to start my dissertation in May 2012. I was approved. Then the bottom fell out of my life. The financial aide office at Argosy decided that I could only borrow the cost of tutition for my dissertation. I am 56 years old and on unemployment. I was trying to finish this degree so that I might find a decent job and pay back the college loans that I and my children have. However, there are costs associated with the dissertation such as an editor at the hefty price of 1800.00. And there would be copies, faxes, transporation costs, lodging, gas, etc., etc. In addition, because I am on unemployment, I was hoping to borrow for off-campus housing and food until I finished. Imagine my shock when all of a suddent THIS particular and most important semester, I was told that the cost of tuition was ALL that I would be able to borrow and not because of my credit or because I ahd reached some amount, but because this is the limit Arogsy has set for its dissertation classes. So ALL of the money I have put into this college, ALL of the time I have spent in these classes, and my future credit rating will all be at a loss. Do yourself a favor everyone and go to a state school because I should be an example to you that if Arogsy would do this to a 56 year old woman with a near perfect GPA who passed the comp test, you have no idea what they might do to you. If I did not have children, this would have had me jumping off the skyway bridge. This business is fraudulent! I attended for several years in pursuit of my PsyD, only to leave the program with an MA and over $150,00 in debt.

During the 1st several years, I was placed on academic withdrawal. After being readmitted, I was told that I had to re-take 2 years worth of classes that had "timed out." I re-enrolled, took the necessary classes, passed my comprehensive exam, and spent 2 years applying for internships. I had approximately 13 interviews in 2 years (a very lengthy competitive process) and was not placed at a site.

I was also placed on administrative withdrawal twice because of my inability to afford to pay tuition out of pocket. I have called and emailed asking for assistance with financial aid to get me through the last phase of my academic career, however, I've been told to check out additional loans. As I previously informed Argosy staff, I do not qualify for loans, thus, they have been sending me in circles in my search for financial assistance in the form of scholarships and grants. Now I'm completely broke and was recently told via email that I cannot re-enroll for "reasons I am aware of."  

My GPA was high, I had glowing letters of recommendation, and was well-received by peers and many professors. I put a lot of time, money, and energy into my education. I feel betrayed and disgusted when I think of the multiple responsibilities and roles I have juggled and the sacrifices made in order to enroll, maintain a 3.6 GPA, and graduate.

Needless to say, my interest and passion for the field has been tested and I now wish I had taken a different path after graduating from high school.

A nation-wide class-action lawsuit has been filed against Argosy University.
