In my senior year at Argosy University they stated complaints against me. I had a 4.0 GPA with professor's letters of recommendation. They kept me from proceeding with the program and being able to graduate. This left me with $30k of student loan debt and no degree. Googling shows Argosy has done this to other students, but I have no way of contacting them for a class action lawsuit.

I took the matter to the president, Dr. Ryan. He referred my concerns to Dr. Egbert who was instructed to do an investigation. At the end of his supposed investigation I asked questions regarding the legitimacy of and specifics about the complaints, and he could not answer my questions. And yet, he supported the school's decision that I had to complete their remediation plan in order to proceed with my practicum and be able to graduate. This remediation plan was not justified, it had nothing to do with their supposed complaints, and I had to miss work (hence a loss of money) in order to do this requirement. I chose not to fulfill their remediation plan, and therefore left the school with debt with no degree.

In googling "Argosy Complaints" I have found that other students were also kept from graduating, leaving them with student loan debt and no degree. Two students answered an online posting about my complaint, stating similar complaints, but contact was lost. I also contacted a student I was put in touch that left Argosy disgruntled.

These deplorable actions by Argosy University need to be stopped! And, those of us who have been left with student loans and no degree should be reimbursed by Argosy.

Argosy U destroyed my life

AUTHOR: Sam4u2 - (United States of America)

I can relate to your story. I passed my comp for my Educational Leadership Doctoral degree after maintaining a 3.9 - 4.0 grade point average for the past two years. I applied for financial aid to start my dissertation in May 2012. I was approved. Then the bottom fell out of my life. The financial aide office at Argosy decided that I could only borrow the cost of tutition for my dissertation. I am 56 years old and on unemployment. I was trying to finish this degree so that I might find a decent job and pay back the college loans that I and my children have. However, there are costs associated with the dissertation such as an editor at the hefty price of 1800.00. And there would be copies, faxes, transporation costs, lodging, gas, etc., etc. In addition, because I am on unemployment, I was hoping to borrow for off-campus housing and food until I finished. Imagine my shock when all of a suddent THIS particular and most important semester, I was told that the cost of tuition was ALL that I would be able to borrow and not because of my credit or because I ahd reached some amount, but because this is the limit Arogsy has set for its dissertation classes. So ALL of the money I have put into this college, ALL of the time I have spent in these classes, and my future credit rating will all be at a loss. Do yourself a favor everyone and go to a state school because I should be an example to you that if Arogsy would do this to a 56 year old woman with a near perfect GPA who passed the comp test, you have no idea what they might do to you. If I did not have children, this would have had me jumping off the skyway bridge. My email address is: (((ROR redacted))) If you have any idea how to make them allow me to finish my degree, please let me know. Thank you.

Unfair, fraudulent, false advertisement, discrimination

AUTHOR: NGK - (United States of America)

This business is fraudulent! I attended for several years in pursuit of my PsyD, only to leave the program with an MA and over $150,00 in debt.

During the 1st several years, I was placed on academic withdrawal. After being readmitted, I was told that I had to re-take 2 years worth of classes that had "timed out." I re-enrolled, took the necessary classes, passed my comprehensive exam, and spent 2 years applying for internships. I had approximately 13 interviews in 2 years (a very lengthy competitive process) and was not placed at a site.

I was also placed on administrative withdrawal twice because of my inability to afford to pay tuition out of pocket. I have called and emailed asking for assistance with financial aid to get me through the last phase of my academic career, however, I've been told to check out additional loans. As I previously informed Argosy staff, I do not qualify for loans, thus, they have been sending me in circles in my search for financial assistance in the form of scholarships and grants. Now I'm completely broke and was recently told via email that I cannot re-enroll for "reasons I am aware of."

My GPA was high, I had glowing letters of recommendation, and was well-received by peers and many professors. I put a lot of time, money, and energy into my education. I feel betrayed and disgusted when I think of the multiple responsibilities and roles I have juggled and the sacrifices made in order to enroll, maintain a 3.6 GPA, and graduate.

Needless to say, my interest and passion for the field has been tested and I now wish I had taken a different path after graduating from high school.

Very Similar Situation

AUTHOR: ArgosyNashville2 - (United States of America)

Argosy Nashville - where should I begin?  Things started out great.  I enjoyed the professors and getting to know my fellow classmates. Keep in mind I still have faith in those people. However, at the point where I was 45 hours into a 60 hour Master's program, things took a turn for the worst.

As many of you readers may know, student loans are available to students to allow us to pay for student related costs (i.e. rent, computer, books, and the like).
And, this had NEVER been a problem before.  Prior to my upcoming classes I accepted the full amount of the loans I was offered...and it went from approx. $6,800 remaining to less than $3,000!  You could say that this shocked me.

So, I researched what had happened to cause this great decrease in my student loans.  The fact was the FAFSA school year was 2010-2011 (for Fall 2010) and Argosy Nashville's Financial Aid Department decided to give me the small amount remaining in the old 2009-2010 school year!  I went to FAFSA Live Help and spoke with TWO employees of the government.  I was told that they (Argosy Nashville) was in error. So, I called Argosy and initially received no answer.  Left message.  When my call was returned I was told it was because of my new entry date.  Well...I suppose they thought I wouldn't double-check this?  So...I have many friends that go there...and saw that they had also received the old 2009-2010 school year funds!  A few days later, I decided to go in and have a face-to-face talk with those in the FA dept.  I asked him to change my FAFSA to the correct and corresponding academic school year and the reply was, "no".  Also, it should be noted that the story had changed at this point.  Now, instead of the decrease in just MY financial aid funds...an employee there told me that they had computer problems that day and could not access the 2010-2011 FAFSA so they just decided to go ahead and use the old 2009-2010! Haha. Are you kidding me? This place is turning into a complete joke with wishy-washy stories.

I spoke to another federal worker (from FAFSA) that specifically told me if Argosy was having trouble accessing the correct information, that they were to call their office.  The FAFSA employee seemed very perplexed why Argosy Nashville's Financial Aid Dept. would even try to do this?  As am I...perplexed, that is.

So...it gets even better.  I leave the Nashville's Argosy University because of their practices and decide to go back to the university where I received my undergraduate degree (with no Financial Aid problems...mind you).  And, I simply ask for the transcripts. I get an e-mail that I owe an approx $500 of Title IV funds just because I dropped a class?  Are you kidding me?  Hmmm.  Never had that problem before at Tech either.  I am starting to crack up and laugh at their absurdity at this point.  As the e-mail stated that until that $500 was paid they would not send my transcripts to Tech. So what...do they actually think they are going to hold my transcript ransom until I pay that money.  Ummm.  Think again.
Would I consider this post from a disgruntled former student at Argosy Nashville?  Yes.
Am I taking the appropriate and legal measures to resolve this matter? Yes.
Did I complete 45 hours of the 60 Master's program with a 4.0 and consider myself an intelligent student?  Yes.

Did I go through the "chain of command" so to speak, to allow Argosy's Financial Aid Dept. to remedy this situation before speaking to higher authorities? Yes.
Will I continued to be bullied by this simple university?  No.

Should you pay this "cash cow" university for the run-around?  No.
Am I well aware that this review will be Googled by current administration at Argosy University?  Yes.Do I care? No.

Conclusion:  Argosy Nashville has sub-par customer service (and yes, you are a customer, since you are paying) and is at best an average university.  Do not be ripped off my these pushy money-makers.  If you want your degree to count for something, my advice is...do not go there.  You will be paying for 3 years of Master's classes, instead of 2 years. Please consider the pros/cons before attending any university and decide what is best for your future. Thank you.

In regards to your story about the campus in CA...I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through this.  I am also in great debt, with no degree to show because of Argosy Nashville.  It seems that this for-profit university's MAIN focus is squeezing out every last dime from any student they can.  It is disgusting, just really disgusting.
