On June 1st, 2013 at approximately 08:45 I arrived at the training school location at 939 S 48th Street in Tempe, AZ 85281. I had scheduled the class previously because I was a return customer due to the fact that I had taken my first armed and unarmed classes with the Arizona Safety & Security Institute back in 2009. I also inquired about CPR training and I was assured by Mike Simon that they offered the course and that I could take it as a package deal. While waiting for the class to begin, I was called aside by Tony Garcia at which time he informed me about having reservations about having me attend the class. Garcia stated that he had personal issues with some of the companies that I had worked for in the past. He said that if I was going to work for SSF again or was thinking about it, that I should get my training through them and I advised Mr. Garcia that the class was not being offered for another 2 weeks. I stated my case that I worked for several companies that they (Arizona Safety & Security Institute) had referred me to. I asked to take the course in general because I was recently injured in a car accident and security is the only work I can handle right now. Garcia flat out refused to allow me to attend his training classes based solely on his personal problems that he had with Special Security Force and Bolt Security. Garcia said that he had sought training from Mike (SSF/Arizona Armed & Unarmed Guard Training Center)and was refused and went on to say that he was going to refuse to train me since Mike would not train him. Later I found out this to be a false statement. Garcia said that Diane the owner of Bolt security owed him and promised to send her guards to his training facility because he helped her save her FDIC contracts. I feel this was a totally unprofessional attitude that was detrimental to me personally and professionally. The Arizona Safety & Security Institute had no problem taking my money in 2009 but when they found out that I was employed with Bolt Security and SSF, they let personal feelings interfere with professional standards. This in turn, has caused me financial harm when at a time I am already severely stressed financially and personally.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Addressing the issue

AUTHOR: Tony - ()

From: Tony Garcia, Co-owner, Arizona Safety and Security Institute

I have read the following compliant and wish to address this individuals concerns.  What he stated is true, he did come in and wanted to receive training from our organization. Upon learning who he worked for I did not wish to train him due to concerns that I have over his current employer having unethical business practices.  Everyone who has dealt with me professionally knows that I believe in the security industry and do not wish to do business with certain individuals or companies. As a business owner that is my right to refuse service to any individual. I do not need the money, but I do have certain standards.

Also, he is correct,in 2009, we did refer him to SSF. But this was before we knew how terrible the security company truly is. Since 2009 we no longer refer individuals to seek employment with this company.  From our conversation today the individual stated that he is currently employed with SSF.

Upon asking him some questions, such as why doesn't your security company give you the training? He did reply that they will not give another class for three weeks (check the calendar). I then stated, if he was such a valued employee, then SSF should be able to make an exception and do a class ASAP and for free, seeing as how he works for them. There would be no reason for him to come to our facility to take our training.

Another concern now that I have is since the individual stated he was in a car wreck, he hurt his back, and security is the only work he can handle, my question is should he then be armed?  This issue deals with officer safety to himself and the public. Should he be carrying a gun right now? But I degress.

He stated that we discussed Bolt security.  I can assure that at no time did I discuss Bolt Security and contracts with this individual.  How can he be so precise in naming exact contracts? I do not even know what FDIC contracts he is stating.  As far as the owner of Bolt goes, I have had no contact with that individual for over 2 years.

In the end, as a business I can not please everyone, I made a judgment call based on my past BUSINESS dealings with another security company. I truly feel for this indvidual and wish him the best of luck in our wonderful industry. I just do not wish to train this individual and the the company that he works for.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 602-754-0964 to discuss this issue or any other training issues that you may have.
