Asher Wrecker Service 2 days of "storage" fees for a 10 hour stay on their lot!! Little Rock Arkansas

My husbands diesel truck and trailer were towed last evening from a private vacant lot. Why the lot "owner" didn't call the business name, printed in huge letters down the side of the clean, pretty, white trailer, and ask us not to leave it there anymore is beyond me. Instead we were towed. Asher Wrecker Service called us at 12:45 am told us of the tow and said to call back in the morning at 7 am that the office was closed until then. That truck and my husband were supposed to be on the road at 4:30 am to start deliveries. The trailer was full of pallet orders. Instead we find out at 7 am we had to bring $1,054 in cash to get it out of "impound"! We do not have that kind of cash on hand. My husbands supervisor had to meet him at Asher Wrecker Service with the cash.

In addition to the $500+ in towing fees, we were charged 2 days of storage because the truck was towed before midnight and not picked up until the next morning. It sat on their lot 9 hours but we had to pay for 2 full days. I checked with another towing company in the area and apparently that is perfectly legal. Not ethical, but legal. Neither Adams Towing or Metro Towing in Little Rock charge this way. Also, not surprisingly enough because the vehicle was not of standard size there were additional "slot" charges because the truck took up more than one parking space. Are you kidding me?! How sad these heartless, scheming crooks pad their pockets this way. It's my understanding the owner "Jeff" was in Hot Springs and unavailable. Suppose he knows how they are running his business in his absence??

In Addition, I do not understand how anyone can call a tow company give any name say they are the owner of a particular lot or business and without verification a wrecker service will come tow a vehicle on the word of someone over the phone! How do they know the caller was indeed the owner?? Will someone please explain this to me?? Sounds fishy.

Well, my husband is finally on the road, almost 5 hours behind schedule today and we won't see him until tomorrow night. He is going to have to "face the music" at work tomorrow with his boss. Our only hope is that they will allow him to pay them back over time or I guess he will be standing in the unemployment line tomorrow. He is a very hard working truck driving father of 5 and every dollar counts in our household of 7. I can't think of a worse time of year to get ripped off this way. Maybe someone from Asher Wrecker Service will come over and explain it to me and the kids.

Just a side note...in the 9 hours the truck was in the possession of Asher Wrecker Service, the entire cab had been ransacked and everything of value was gone, including my husbands back pillow! They even stole all the ballpoint pens!
