When we went back to the store to cancel said layaway the first person started our refund and said we would get the $200 back, he had it ready to process . We stopped to look for a different set of furniture but did not find anything. We went back to the desk to finish our refund and where told the gentleman went home. That there is a $50 charge for cancelling. Again we tried explaining that the salesman had assured us we would not have to pay that and he would take care of it.. Of course he did not have anyone initial the contract like he said he would, so we were told there is nothing they can do for us.
at this point the salesman still assured us not to worry it will be taken care of .."someone will pay this but not him, he is there to make money". after about an hour of talking back and forth and waiting on the staff to make up their minds we were told that it would be up to the home office to make that decision. I just talked to home office and they do not handle disputes for that store. they said to call the store. Which we have already talked to and got nowhere. We are out our $50 the store agreed that the salesman lied to us, but nobody is willing to give us back our money. I find this to be a very bad way to do business and to keep trust with the customers.
I want others to be aware of the shady dealings that go on there and not to fall in the same trap that we did.

POSTED: Tuesday, May 24, 2011 When you sign a contract, it takes precedence over anything that anybody told you.
"We read the contract and it stated that you would loose $50 of your deposit if you canceled the layaway, so we asked the salesman about this.. He assured us that it would be taken care of and that we would NOT have to pay that."
It's a contract. By signing, you are agreeing to pay the $50 to cancel. If you don't agree, you shouldn't sign. That applies to ALL contracts.
Personally, I'm wondering why you would sign at all, considering that you were planning on shopping around. It just doesn't make sense to sign a layaway contract if you're still looking. The only benefit would be for the salesman. He was hoping that once you found out you were locked into the layaway, you'd just buy from him.
Doesn't matter if it's furniture, electronics or cars, salesmen will say whatever it takes to lock you into a sale. What matters is what's on the piece of paper you sign.
