wanted to buy a "prairie view" coffee table. item is discontinued but still in stock and on the ashley computer system i.e. still in the warehouse, still selling it. price increased $50 to $300. when last checked the price was $250. the black friday ad gave 20% off. manager showed me the door when i called him down on the likely deception. his cliam was that the price had gone up as had shipping. and i have a bridge in brooklyn. be aware of this practice by ashley furniture when the proper decision would have been to opt for a happy customer for $40. on black friday at 8am

Similar experience at Ashley

AUTHOR: Bill - (United States of America)

The week before Black Friday I went on line to research Ashley Furniture in S. Fort Myers and saw this ripoff report.  We had been looking at an entertainment center which was priced at $1599.  The Ashley sales person printed out a data sheet which had the $1599 price right on it.  We went in on Black Friday for the big sale and the price had changed on the entertainment center from $1599 to $1699.  We asked what happened and the sales person said it had always been $1699.  She said my data sheet with the $1599 price must have been a misprint. I asked to talk to a manager and I got the same story from her.  They made no effort to give me the price that I was showing them from their data sheet.  Needles to say, that was the last time I ever went into an Ashley Furniture store.

Moral of this story is that I should have avoided Ashley Furniture after reading the above ripoff report.  I hope that others will at least not pay heed to their stupid sales.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Ashley Furniture uses old "Sale" tactics

AUTHOR: LeoRules - (United States of America)

First of all the company does NOT mark their furniture up only 30% that is nonsense!
2nd of all, when they have their big warehouse liquidation sales furniture prices are more than DOUBLED!
I experienced this just this week when I saw people holding signs saying 2 million dollar warehouse liquidation EVERYTHING MUST GO! So I checked it out. Guess what, they were not ready for a consumer with shop savvy on their cell phone. I scanned the price without the sales person knowing with my cell phone and then asked her waht the price was and how much she could take off for the big "sale". She told me the regular price was $968 on this item and that she could let me have it for only $698 a "savings" of $300. When I scanned the barcode in front of her and the item showed up picture, location and a price of $453 her jaw dropped. She didn't know what to say. I asked her why it was marked up so much and why I couldn't get it for the price shown on my phone, she said let me talk to my manager.
She came back about 5 minutes later and said that that price was from a store in New York that was going out of business, I said excuse me, but I scanned YOUR item with the barcode on YOUR furniture and this is the price for YOUR location. It says near Wilmington NC. She said oh it says near Wilmington, so it's not this store. I said excuse me but this store is located at Monkey Junction which is near Wilmington because it's not in the city limits. All she ahd to say then was if she could give it to me for that price was i still interested. Now to top all of this off, the normal delivery price is $70 but during this "sale" the delivery price is a whopping $159 because they said they had to hire and outside source. Now years ago they could get away with this practice a lot easier but with the smart phones on the market today I suggest that every one get the free AP for most smart phones the name of the ap is shop savvy. It's amazing and you can scan any item with a barcode and it will give you a picture of the item and the lowest price and where to find it.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Every Where you go...

AUTHOR: Brittany - (U.S.A.)

Every where you go, places raise prices before a massive sale. A little inside view, Ashley Furniture marks up their prices on furniture 30% from the purchase cost from manufaturer. So if there is a sale for 20% off all furniture they are only making a 10% profit on all sales made while that promotion is going on. So there is a reason Ashley Furniture has been around since the 1800's. It's not because we rip people off. If you don't read what out policys and procedures are on the actual contract and reciept we provide you at time of sale, it in turn would be your fault. Not Ashley Furniture HomeStore fault. Everybody has to make money somehow. Also when ever there is a new management team in the store. They almost Always Raise prices. The storemanagers paycheck depends on how much the store makes. I also know they will not kick you out of the store unless your are being rude, and yelling and cursing, insulting the managers, and causing sceen in his store. I worked there for over a year, and in that time span, i have maybe seen 3 people kicked out. So before you complain make sure you do your research.
