Several months back I was a little strapped for cash, but wanting badly to try virtually anything to continue my degree - i.e. online / correspondance courses that I was unfamiliar with... After typing in a few phrases in Google, I was alerted to Ashworth College.
After reviewing their website only, everything seemed legitimate and reasonable. However, I did more indepth research on this 'college' and checked with my old college and the college that I'd be soon transferring all the credits... After speaking with the admissions department and several other departments, not only did the colleges never hear of Ashworth, but NONE of the credits would be useful in a transfer! Not even a very basic course, such as Intro to Business!
A few other things that I'd like to share...
I did register with them and actually cancelled my agreement with them in the first 24 hours (I believe you are allowed a few days to retract your committment with them).
The book that I received for Intro to Business was absolutely ridiculous. It was like reading a 5th grade textbook. In fact, It would take the normal person to read the entire book in 1 day (or less). I didn't waste my time since all the info was quite stupid...in fact, VERY stupid....I swear it's as though it was written for a 5th grade business course.
I was a bit more curious and actually ran a query on Amazon on the ISBN for the textbook they sent. NOTHING. These textbooks are inhouse written garbage and can't be found anywhere else on the web! i.e. junk...
Another note...the campus claims to be accredited by a seemingly 'industry' & legit organization... See the snipit that I included from the "about us" page of their website..
"All of our degree programs are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council, which is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency for distance learning schools."
Well, dig a little deeper and you'll find that the Distance Ed and Training Coucil is nothing more than a fictitious group of 'educators'. In fact, one of the board members is....an executive from PCDI! What a crock...
Bottom line...You're far better off going to the library and reading material or registering for a real online course or taking classes at the local community college. At least you'll be able to either learn something or gain credit for transfer or a REAL degree.
STAY AWAY FROM ASHWORTH COLLEGE AND PCDI!!
