Atkinson Truck Sales of Chatham, VA uses fraudulent/deceptive business practices concerning consumer deposits made on vehicles. On 5/22/12 a $1,000 deposit was given them for a used tri-axel dump truck. We were advised verbally it was refundable. It was decided not to purchase the vehicle because the finance company they referred could not produce acceptable terms. Gary Scearce of Atkinson Truck Sales had been email and called several times. He ignored and/or was unresponsive to all communications. On 1/4/13 he was finally reached via phone. At that time he stated it was "Atkinson's Policy" not to refund deposits. This was the first indication a no refund policy existed since he originally stated is was refundable. Prior to 1/4/13 there had been no verbal or written confirmation of such policy. On 5/22/12 Atkinson Truck Sales provided a buyers order for the deposit. Nowhere on the buyers order was there any policy concerning deposits on vehicles. Further, the buyers order was unsigned by all parties. Atkinson Truck Sales continues to remain unresponsive to all inquires.
