I was ripped off by these guys a long time ago for $400. The speakers actually work, and i've been using them for a long time with no problems, but to anyone who knows speaker quality, they're not worth more than about $150 for the pair. If you paid this or less, then consider yourself lucky because you didn't get ripped off as badly as most people like myself.
The fact is that the practices these people use to sell is ethically intolerable and deceitful. They have no morals or concious about what they do, and therefore, neither will I in my retaliation.
There are ways to get these guys back where it hurts, but I need your help. Please email me times, dates and exact locations where you have been approached by these people in Austin. Contact me by using the rebuttal box.

I just stated the facts.As a matter of fact my husband was a victim of this scam over 2 years ago at a truckstop in Colorado at Christmas Time. He spent $400.00 of our Christmas Money(That Hurt!) for 4 Tower Speakers and a Home Theatre System plus He got the Magazine from them too.Needless to say I was pissed cuz we didn't need Speakers.His plan was to sell 'em on ebay for a profit.Their were plenty on ebay already with no bids.So much for that idea.
I wasn't saying that I'm better then you because I could fall for it too, but I AM A TIGHTWAD and they wouldn't get much outta me ( I wouldn't wear rubber soles for fear they would give Ha Ha actually that's not true but a friend said that once and made me laugh)The truth is you have NO One to blame but yourself for not Knowing more about speakers besides The Name AUDIOFILE sounds familiar.I was just pointing out clues like the magazine Ad.
Also the Editor of this site pointed out when they start claiming religion as an excuse it's time to run!! Because the rip off is coming and they have NO QUALMS about doing it. I've been ripped off twice by that excuse! BUT No One seems to know about this rip off until it happens to them,why would they search for Audiofile speakers on the net if they didn't know about them?

Ok First of all If the Perp and the Victim were not dishonest this scam would not be here.Case in point.The perp's tell you Hey I've got a couple of extra speakers that are unaccounted for if I take them back to the warehouse the "Boss" is going to keep them(for free)so let's make a deal.
To Really perpetrate this scam they buy ad space in a magazine and advertise an exorbinate price for these speakers(how many ad's have you seen with the products price actually listed beside's it's usually listed as manufactures SUGGESTED retail price if at all)So your thinking WOW I could get these expensive speakers for chump change. SO you fall for it.So you are scamming the scammer.Everything is fine and good until you go on line or talk to someone and find out they fell for the same deal.No wonder the cops don't or won't do anything about it.Because You and the PERP are DISHONEST.

Ford Explorer with Florida tags and give me the same pitch as all the others have reported.
I can't believe I paid these guys $350 for a pair of crap audiofile 583LR's. I'm going to pursue this as far as I can and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I'm going to try to flind there shack tomarrow down on Ben White. I'm also pursueing security tapes to get their liscense plate #. I feel like sueing these ill willed indviduals so this won't happen to anyone else.

Why couldn't I have see this site three days ago...

Ditto on the story. I caved in at the Diamond Shamrock on the corner of Brodie and Slaughter Lanes in South Austin after being flagged down at a red light by a goofy guy in a white (perhaps silver) SUV. This was about 6pm on 8/12/2004.
For my $220 (yes, the $20 beer pitch), I have some really nice looking fire wood (if I don't die from the fumes) and I got to spend my morning making phone calls to try and track these guys down. So far, I've told the story to the Austin Police, the Attorney Generals Office, the Secretary of State, the Better Business Bureau, the Travis County Tax Collector, the County Clerk, and even the I.R.S. - heh, maybe they'll get audited :-)
After all of that and a visit to what was supposed to be their warehouse near Ben White and South Congress, I've confirmed that these guys do/did operate under the name of Orka Distributors (as previously posted to this site), but unfortunately, they moved out about a month ago, so don't bother trying to catch them there anymore (thanks Taylor).
I have some more information from my digging, but I'm not sure what anyone else is trying to do about this and I'm reluctant to post anything new for fear of compromising anyone else's efforts. Please feel free to contact me...I'll gladly do what I can to help put an end to this.

They're Still in Austin

Same Story different day. They weren't pushing the speakers as hard as they were pushing the Audiofile THX 6.1 home theatre system. They started at 2000.00 but after refusing, saying I had no money, they went all the way down to 200.00. They followed me to the ATM with the system in the back of my truck. If traffic hadn't been so congested at Ben White @ I-35, they would have kissed their system good-bye. In fact had I known all of this about them they would still be chasing me.
Anyway, the system doesn't come with a receiver so it's useless to me unless I can get a receiver. If anyone has any suggestions. I'm not sure if the rest of it is worth 200.00 but I'm guessing not. They were driving a silver SUV of some sort with the a big dent in the hatch door. I'll be glad to help anyone in any way I can. All I want is one more face to face confrontation with them and all will be well.
Keep the 200.00, I'll give them 200.00 more. Rick, if it helps they pulled me over on Ben White in the Burger King parking lot near I-35. Feel free to contact me any way you can.

Ok, so a few months ago I had a run in with these guys in the Best Buy parking lot in the Arboretum area. Two white guys, one with spiky black hair. Anyway, they gave me the rundown but I had no money and it sounded way too sketchy so I turned them down.
I didn't think too much about it until last Friday when I was at the Shell station on the corner of Braker Ln. and Mopac. I am sitting in my friend's car and I hear someone ask him if he wants "free" speakers. I look over and IT'S THE SAME FREAKING GUYS! I got really angry because I realized that it was a total scam going on. I got out of the car and confronted them about it, telling them how they had tried the same crap on me before. I even recited the same lines they gave me. "Let me guess, you've got an extra set and need to get rid of them before your boss finds out, blah blah blah."
Well obviously these guys were pissed that I was calling them on their bullshit scam so one of them starts threatening me. He's all "You want to get your ass kicked motherfucker!? I'll kick your ass, etc." I just laughed and got back in the car and as they drove away I wrote down their plate number. When I got back to work I called the crime stoppers line and reported the scumbags.
In case anyone wants to trace it, here is the info:

about 2 weeks ago at gulfgate mall on 45 south at the woodridge exit at an HEB a SUV approached me The white guy was in the passangers side and the Hispanic male was driving giving me a story just like the one you told me.
After reading this I should have gotten the Liscense Plate number BECAUSE I CAN TRACE THEM!!!
But I was really in a Hurry I did not purchase anything from these people.
Hell I was looking for another job I did not have any money to spend on anything.
If you have a liscense plate number, first name and last name I can return the DL number and street address of said scam artist no hit no fee.
If you have the Cell phone number or nonpublished house number of that subject I can TRACE that FOR A FEE.
If the number has been disconnected for LESS THAN 3 MONTHS I CAN TRACE IT (A little More Expensive) FOR A FEE.

about 2 weeks ago at gulfgate mall on 45 south at the woodridge exit at an HEB a SUV approached me The white guy was in the passangers side and the Hispanic male was driving giving me a story just like the one you told me.
After reading this I should have gotten the Liscense Plate number BECAUSE I CAN TRACE THEM!!!
But I was really in a Hurry I did not purchase anything from these people.
Hell I was looking for another job I did not have any money to spend on anything.
If you have a liscense plate number, first name and last name I can return the DL number and street address of said scam artist no hit no fee.
If you have the Cell phone number or nonpublished house number of that subject I can TRACE that FOR A FEE.
If the number has been disconnected for LESS THAN 3 MONTHS I CAN TRACE IT (A little More Expensive) FOR A FEE.

The same guys hit me today 6/7/04 in Carrollton, TX just North of Dallas. Didn't find out about the scam until it was too late. Gave $380.00 for a bogus pair of speakers. There is some truth to their story, they claimed to be from Austin, and aparently there are plenty of people in Austin reporting them. Is there a way to find these guys?

I've already told you people how to get your money back and yet you continue to bitch and moan about how you got ripped off. In my previous rebuttal, i gave y'all the exact location of these people and when to be there. I got my money back, all $220; and y'all are still asking how to get them back. You've got a 3 day "cooling off" period during which you can get your money back; as prescribed by the law. They have to give you your money back or you can sue them, and you WILL Win; but they know the law and they Will give you ALL of your money.

They said the speakers were worth $1500 and even showed me a brochure and warranty... Needless to say, the speakers are crap.... They took me for over $200 dollars...

They are good, and I'm going to the supposed "office" of theirs today to return them.

Throughout my entire life i've never fallin for a scam, but today I met my match. Its only been like 6 hours and i'm still kicking myself over the whole situation.The worste part about it is that my friend fell for the same scheme a year prior, told me about it, and yet I still fell for it.
If there is anyone else out there like me, you know exactly what i'm talking about. I was walking home from class (in austin TX) not really in the right state of mind for a scam to take place. But theses guys got me and I can only tip me hat to them.
They told me everything I wanted to hear. "blah blah blah we got some special deal...blah blah blah we got our inventory checked twice"..It also didn't help that I have been looking to buy speakers for my TV.let me tell you I must have noticed 5 or 6 signs that totally gave away the situation (but i thinking that i was special didn't even notice) that I now kick myself over. Like everyone else i got their "names" ,chris and steven, and some number (512 215 0369) most likely fake.
But everyone listen..these guys got us..they got us good..in fact they got me worse than most ( i spent $500)I was happy for a bit thinking something good came my way but I got money taken away that I really couldn't afford to lose. But hope to all the restless, I made many-a-phone calls this afternoon and from what I gather these people are on the bad list of many people and sooner or later their gonna get their come-uppins.

A Ford Expedition with two guys pulled up and asked me if I wanted to buy some speakers, as I was getting into my car in West Sacramento. They told me that the warehouse had given them too many. They didn't want to take them back to their boss but wanted to make some money off them. After going back and forth I finally thought that $200 would be a fine deal.
Crap, I don't know audio real well so I figured it was "as advertised" in the flyer they had! They even took one of the speakers out of the box to let me look at it as they did for others. They followed me to the ATM and I gave them the money and on a whim I decided just in case to take the license of the vehicle down. I really had to move to keep up with them and worried even more when they seemed to try to outrun me!
I really haven't hooked the speakers up yet and they may work fine but after seeing the issues others are talking about I am kinda worried.
I got taken! Should have known better and of course you can kick yourself in hindsight but I DID GET THE EXPEDITION'S LICENSE PLATE NUMBER as a precation! I am going to see if these two punks are local and hope to give them a visit. If anyone knows an easy way to find the info on a gray expedition (some are reporting white but this was gray) with license number 5EEH045 ... let me know.

after recently being ripped-off myself, i did a little investigating of my own and found out where they operate from. If you have been victimized by these jerks you have three days (as set by the LAW) to return any durable goods (crap) to the business if it is still in original condition, especially if you bought it under such false pretenses and ill-mannered business practices; not to mention the fact that they lie about who they are, they lie about what they are selling to you and they lie about how to get in contact with them. If you live in the austin area....They're "headquarters" (shack) are right off of the feeder road along Ben White Blvd (290). If you're heading east they are on the right side just after the S. Congress intersection (about 200 yards). Their name is supposedly ORKA DISTRIBUTORS Inc. It's kinda hard to find and you'd never know they were their if you weren't looking for them. They're in an office park with a bunch of green 'garage' doors. The number of their suite is 114, but if for some reason this website deletes the number...just ask the other businesses if they know anything about them; go into every office you can if you have to because a few people will know who they are (that's what i did). They aren't there all day because, as i'm sure you know, they are out stealing from people. Go some time between 8 and 10am or between 5 and 6pm. go get these f*ck*rs

Same story different day. These 2 guys,One was white and the other washispanic named Aurelio, (512)507-1380in a white Ford Explorer with Florida plates came up to me at the H-E-B gas station and asked if i wanted some speakers. He got them out and showed me the waranty and the yellow slip from his company. When i told i only have about $150 he said okay. I went to pay for the gas and he loaded them in the back of my truck. He got in my truck and said to go over to the bank. we did and i only got out a $100. He said that was too low and he left. He gave me his number (listed above) and said that next time im down in austin to call him and we would go hang out.

AnywaysWhile I was searching for this great speakers on line I came across with individuals selling these same speakers for $850.00!!!! Even eBay has 6 listings for these same speakers!! What a nerve!!!
PeopleCheck the internet BEFORE you buy anything on the street. If it is legit the seller will give you his info and you contact him later after you have checked the merchandise on line, by phone yellow pages etc.
Go ahead, search (I searched model only 583LR) if you're one of the victims you may find some of those crooks and yell at them and let go your anger.

On November 21, 2003, I also bought a pair of Audiofile speakers. I was on the corner of Congress and 2nd Street. There's no need to explain the story...same story, different day. Anyway, there were 3 guys in a green Ford Expedition who all looked like young high school guys. I paid $100 bucks for them...no big deal. Quite honestly, I would probably fall for it again. Anyway, the guy I gave the money to said his name was Caleb. I'm sure it wasn't his real name. However, I did use his cell phone number to call my brother's cell phone with it. The number that he gave me did match the number that showed up on my brother's cell phone. The number was (512)762-8792. The Expedition had a silver UT emblem on it, and a Texas Exes sticker. I've read other stories about the speakers, and apparently they work. 100 bucks for some working speakers isn't a bad deal.
If anyone out there has information on how to run a check on license plates, please let me know. My brother was able to write down their plates, just in case. Good thing he did.
Part of me wants to laugh at the whole situation. The other part just wants $3,000 dollars worth of speakers for $100.

To Rick: Austin Texas - About 10:00 Oct. 22, 2003, I was approached by 2 young men in a white SUV. They approched me at a stoplight. They said the same thing that the manager had received too many speakers, and would dell them to me cheap. I paid $200. These guys are still in Austin right now, said they worked for a company in San Marcos TX. I havent hooked the speakers up yet, but I have an odd feeling they are very poor quality. Anyone who has the liscence tag number of this White SUV, I would appreciate getting it. One was thin, white ball cap, and silver framed sunglasses, the other was a little heavier man, either Hispanic, or with a dark tan. I hope we can all help each other to find these guys, and serve justice. I was approached at the corner of 15th and Lavaca, and withdrew $200 at the ATM on San Jacinto, between 4th, and 5th st. I was ripped off by AudioFile in San Marcos, TX

I was approached by 2 guys in their young 20's at a Carwash right off of 35N right before Hopkins exit on October 15th, 2003. One guy was white and the other was a somewhat darker skin, they looked like normal college students. They were in a newer style Ford Explorer with alot of speakers in the back. They said they had received too many speakers and were basically free, but if they took them back, their boss would just keep them. So they wanted to sell a pair to me so that they could get a hotel and store them so they could later sell them on ebay for $3000.
The first guy was trying to get me to pay $600 and I told them there was no way in hell, in fact he wanted me to have them follow me to my house to see if I had anything worth of value that could be traded to reach $600 and of course I told him no.
I offered $100 and the guy almost upset that I was offering so low. So I just said too bad and walked off. Then the other guy jumped out and came to talk to me eventually saying how his friend was being greedy and everything and that he could do it for $150, so unfortunately I did it.
The second guys name (atleast what he told me) was Aurelio(the darker skined guy) and he even gave me his number so that we could hang out next time I was in Austin, (once again what he told me) it is 512-507-1380.

Another one suckered...two guys in a white explorer with the same pitch line, I thought in the back of my head if it was a scam but i still went through. Anyways I picked up his license plate number just in case. but after calling the cops they told me they couldnt do anything about it and to call the attorney general. I was at the Shell by the Hancock HEB around 6pm friday. IF there is anyway to get these guys back I'm right
