I am a seasoned car shopper but I was almost overwhelmed by the extremely high pressure tactics used by these people.  I stressed that I was car shopping and had a couple other cars I wanted to look at, at other car lots before making a decision.  After a test drive, they made a decent offer for my car and I was actually considering trading until they drove my car and then decided their offer would have to be reduced by $1000, very similar to another report on here. 

In the process, the sales manager was rude and insulting to me.  I told him I would just keep my car and sell it myself and he then dropped the price on his vehicle and I said I would think about it for a couple of days.  He said that price was only good that day.  When I said I wasn't trading that day, he got up and walked off.  Basically he was trying to separate me from my money any way he could, with no regard whatsoever to what I wanted to do.  Very HIGH PRESSURE tactics, I would never go back to that car lot.

"they made a decent offer for my car"

Did they make an offer or were you told 'up to' a certain amount contingent upon their evaluation? I don't believe a dealer would make a final offer on a vehicle before they test-drove it.
