My computer was getting slow and taking a lot of time to boot up and seemed to be getting slower everyday. I had been getting popups that would speed up and clean up my system and I finally got to the point where I would look into it. When I did I got in contact with "technician" who informed me that he worked for Systweak and they had a software package that could be loaded to my computer that would "fix" my problem. He told me he could send it to me and I could install it or for $29.95 he would install it from his location. Since I know absolutel nothing when it comes to installing software I told him I would prfer him to do the installation. He said he would need my credit card information before he could start the installation. I had never given a stranger any of my credit card information but I guess I was so frustrated with my computer that I went ahead and gave him the info and he took control of my computer.
The next day I checked my credit card account online and found on 6/13 a purchase for $29.95 and on the same day a credit for $29.95. I continued to check my credit card account almost daily to make sure nothing unaccountable for was happening. On 6/27 I was shocked to see a charge of $149.00 posted on my account by a company named Avangate BV, Amsterdam. I immediately called my VISA credit card company informing them of this unauthorized charge. They put it in dispute.
Since I had never heard of this company or done any business with them I searched them out on the internet and discovered that they produce a software package described to do the same thing as the product had purchased from Systweak.
i received a message on my phone requesting me to call my VISA Card Services last week. When I called they wanted some more information from me and told me they had put my case in the hands of a disputespecialist and they will represent my interests. They also said I should prove I never received this software. I asked them how they can prove that they sent it to me.
After all this, I decided to do a search online by entering "avangate bv & systweak + scam" and I clicked on a Rip-off Report involving this company. I found a report that was posted of Ripoff Report on 08/04/2013.
I read this report and realized that that this person got scammed the same exact way I did including the same amount ($249.00) being charged to their credit card. The only thing I don't have is an order number.
