My wife and I were scheduled to fly to Lubbock Texas for a speaking engagement. We called Avis Car Rental to rent a vehicle before hand. We told them we would be using our debit card, and if that was ok? They said yes it was, it was no problem. When we flew into Lubbock and gathered our luggage and proceeded to the Avis counter, we gave them our paperwork showing it was paid for. The man at the counter took the paperwork, punched the info into the computer, and said they could not rent a car to us because it was a debit card. I told them the Avis representative said that was no problem to use a debit card, but he said no, unless we had a credit card, they can't rent to us, even though they took money out of my account. The guy at the counter was unsympathetic, and could care less. I called the main headquarters to speak to a Rep, and they said they could not help us. I finally went to an Enterprise counter and they rented us a car with no problem, and were disgusted that Avis treated us that way. After fighting with those jerks they refunded my money, and I told them I would let future customers know how they treated us. Do not do business with Avis Car rental, especially if you have a debit card. If they can do this to me, they will have no problem doing it to you.
