This appliance repair service is way overpriced.  Unfortunately I was not given the opportunity to decline their work.  I was an outgoing tenant whose property manager authorized these people to do repairs on an electric range temperature control switch.  Had I been the one to authorize the work, I would have said NO (after a good laugh)....

I was able to obtain 2 other estimates from comparable companies for far less.  Their charges were about $80 for a service call.  Not sure why they marked up the parts so much and the ''fee'' for the work on their second visit... but their bill came to over $330.  All told we were out $400.  This was deducted from my security deposit and essentially nothing I could do about it.

Multiple calls and emails to Aviv Service Today was without any resolution on their overpriced ''rip off''  so I am reporting it in this venue to warn others off of this company.  There are just too many other outfits that do as good or even better work for far less money.  They have come across as arrogant, un-budging on a resolution to ''please their customers'' and showing disrespect and disregard in their customer service.

In all fairness I will report the follow up email I received from the COO.  The range was a micro-range Avanti with a blown burner switch... Avanti of Florida reported the part was only $30 and that included shipping fees.  Given an $80 service call and a follow up visit to do the work (which I am sure a monkey could have done)... came eventually to $400.  Two other service companies in Charleston quoted:  $120 and about $180.

Basically they charged more than twice or even three times as much to do a simple ''switch out'' of an electrical range temperature control switch.  Why pay $400 when you can pay $120?  I certainly would not have if given the choice, however, the property manager made the choice (why would he care, it was not skin off his back).

After getting no-where with these people (multiple phone calls and email)... I decided to report them to SC Customer Affairs and also this forum (additionally I will alert the BBB and Angie's List).

They obviously don't know contemporary customer service protocols nor do they exert customary and usual pricing.  Amazing they are still in business in today's economy. (if you wish to receive an explanation by the COO, you can email me and I will provide a copy for you)

Warning to others.. if you need appliance repair and are considering this outfit, I would advise getting 2 other estimates.  This is NOT brain surgery, but a simple repair of an appliance, and any capable technician in the area would be able to do a good job.  Why pay more.

Cheap Shot against Dr. Saleeby!!!

AUTHOR: JP - (USA)

Response for a ''cheap shot'' from Mr. Bedford from AVIV Services.  If this is any indication of how they do business, I would certainly steer clear of this company.  I wrote the editors at RipOffReport to site this injustice and revenge attach!

Subject:Retaliatory Posting

Dear sir,
Regarding:  http://www.ripoffreport.com/dr-yosef-saleeby/alternative-health/myrtle-beach-south-carolina-092D4.htm#

and regarding the original complaint filed by me:  http://www.ripoffreport.com/aviv-service-today/appliances/charleston-south-carolina-de3f0.htm

This posting by "livinginclt" was a retaliatory posting after I posted a negative report on an overpriced appliance service company called AVIV.  I have a letter from AVIV's COO stating such slander about my office practice (ad hominem argument) which are actually unfounded and not true... my office in Myrtle Beach has nothing to do with his claims which he is getting off my personal web site pricing schedule which is out of date and does not apply today.  My solo practice prices are actually far less than what the industry charges for anti-aging consultations (check out BodyLogics and Cenegenics).  So this person from ''Matthews NC"  who is Mr. Bradford, has never even seen me in the office, I have never encountered them as a patient and Matthews is the home base (HQ) of AVIV Service Today.  They should be reprimanded for such unethical postings and attacking my ''person'' and not rebutting the actual issue.  Can you please remove this listing or at least place a notice (as IO aware of your policy not to remove complaints, but I am sure that applies to legitimate complaints and not spam) that this is fictitious and was done in retaliation for a posting I made legitimately against their company.

Will cut and paste the response from Mr. Bradford, their COO on RipOff Reports own website.  If you read the last paragraph, it mirrors his attack on my private practice (having nothing to do with the complaint).   I am convinced this was a blatant attack on me and my office resulting from a legitimate complaint about his company.  Additionally the web site listed is NOT the WellnessOne web site (so information in the complaint is erroneous) and they misspelled my first name too.

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion.  First of all, the cost of repair was not $400; it was $233.76 plus tax, which totaled $253.63. Yes there was an $80 service charge for the service technician to come to the rental property and diagnose the appliance. This is a separate charge from the cost of repair, much like a physician charges you an office visit and then an additional charge to treat your illness. The total charge came to $333.63, NOT $400. Yet, somehow you continue to claim that the cost of repair was $400.

Your review implies that your phone call and emails were never addressed, which in fact is not true. You called our office one time and I personally returned your call within 30 minutes. Every email that you sent was given an immediate and appropriate response. You claim that you were able to go out and find two other companies in Charleston that would do the work for a lower price. This I completely agree with. I could have given you more than two companies, but they would have been companies that do not guarantee their work by ensuring that each and every customer is completely satisfied with the work theyve hired us to do and they also do not offer a 5 year part warranty and a 90 day warranty on all related service, as Aviv Service Today does.

Its interesting that you had absolutely no problem when the property manager called us, approved and paid for the repair. Did you question the amount they were paying, or were you just happy that you and your family had a working appliance again?

For someone who is so concerned with the practice of customary and usual pricing, Id like to know how you justify charging your patients $300 for a 20 minute anti-aging consultation? (Please see link below) That is $900 an hour! (I had a monkey double check my math)  I bet your answer would be the same as mine; you get what you pay for. If you want to pay less and receive a lower quality of service, then you need to go somewhere else.

AVIV does not answer the questions correctly.

Todd,

I will address each and every point.

My reply:  $400 was the amount deducted from our security deposit.  The total repair bill of $333.63 is still 3 times what is usually charged.  That does not change anything.  apparently there was a clerical error on someone's part and we were double billed for a service call.  Again on the internet I found yet another complaint about AVIV double billing for services.

My response:  YOU STILL OVER CHARGE your customers!

you wrote:  Its interesting that you had absolutely no problem when the property manager called us, approved and paid for the repair. Did you question the amount they were paying, or were you just happy that you and your family had a working appliance again?

My response:  I was never (NEVER) consulted NOR did I approve (or would ever have considered approving this repair for this rate).  The property manager took it upon himself to approve your estimate.  He did not know better, he does now, I assure you and he has promised me and future clients to never use your service again.

My response:  As I mentioned above, range switch replacement is NOT Neurosurgery.  A monkey could be trained to do it... My medical practice is however, more like rocket science and my rates if you decide to make the effort (as I have with your company) to research, you will find that they are some of the lowest in the business.  Average anti-aging consultations with a physician start at $1200 per session and even higher.  Research your facts before you post incorrect information on the internet, you owe it to yourself and your customers (former customers).  Check out BodyLogics or Cenengenics for example.... get back to me with their fees why don't you.  Maybe you can learn something about business and fair rates, as my practice is doing nicely while some of my competitors with higher prices are going out of business.

On another note about calling the office... to set the facts straight once again.  My wife called/email you office for explanation and spoke with a young girl there (Lisa), also I emailed several folks including the OWNER who never bothered to reply.  In fact I wrote:  Amazing they are still in business in today's economy. (if you wish to receive an explanation by the COO, you can email me and I will provide a copy for you)  in my original complaint and will still offer email threads regarding this issue to anyone who asks, so no I didn't not fault you with non-responding, but please get your facts straight.

Respectfully submitted,
JP
