BCTI - I withdrew from this school, $12k in dept - Currently wanting to start another Class Action Lawsuit - who is interested? Fife, Washington

I should have been part of the first law suit and was never contacted. I have been tossed around so much and have never received any kind of help with this How would we go about doing this? My phone number is (((REDACTED)))

 I thought this was behind me as I haven't heard about it for years but just yesterday I was presented with a garnishment of 15% off my wages. I work at a lumber yard because I could not get a job with this so called education and now I'm screwed for there greed. Its there any recourse? Just like everyone here I never heard about the lawsuit and feel taken advantage of.

 Ugh. They just took my whole tax return because of that loan with BCTI. I NEVER heard about the first lawsuit!! I even knew a girl who was included. Did they get more money by not including more people in the lawsuit? Ugh. Scam of a school and we're still dealing with this. :/

I was a student of BCTI in Aug 7 2003 attending a computer application program that BCTI assure  that I was going to get hire and every company I try to get a job didn't accepted my certificated of training provided by BCTI. Now I learn that BCTI was in a class action lawsuit in March 2005 and the court order BCTI to pay us . I was never notified by BCTI class action lawsuit settlement and now I have my student loan in collection and the IRS is garnishing my tax return.  BCTI is a fraud and I want to see I can join other student of Tacoma WA to re-summit another lawsuit against BCTI.  

 I know that the government is working on defining the requirements for student loan debt forgiveness in the event of fraud. Is this class action suit stil in effect? I was a student back in the early 90's and missed out on the first class action suit agsinst BCTI. Please keep me posted.

I too attended this scam of a school in 1998.  Single young mom who was led to think that I would have so many great opportunities with this, they place you into work immediately! What a joke! I asked how this would be taken care of and they led me to believe that it would be all taken care of with grants since I was a single mother trying to make a better future for myself and my 1 year old.

Less than a month in I reviewed papers I received and noticed that not only did I not have all grants as I was told but I actually now owed financial aid almost $7,000!!! I even recall a girl that I knew signed up and somehow she got every bit of that $10,000 crap of a school fees all in grants! I even brought this up and I just pretty much got the run around on that as well.  Why did she qualify for something like that when I am a single mother and she lived with her family?!

Once I confronted the school about this and mentioned that down the road at the Community College that these same courses I would be taking at BCTI would only cost me a few hundred dollars each! When I asked to please cancel everything and I would not be able to afford this they stated that I could not and even if they tried that I would be liable for at least half if not more of the total amount due...and that the "grants" would also be removed.  Again being young and now scared I decided to stick through it as I thought I had no other choice. You sit in this room at the end of your course with 20+ other people and however many others through out the day looking at the same jobs.  I could have done that myself at the unemployment office if I would have known that this is how it was done and that was FREE!

Nonetheless, I graduated, racked up the huge bill, and decided I didn't want to pay because it wasn't fair that I had been cheated, lied to, scammed.  Of course the Federal Government doesn't care, they just wanted the money back, didn't care how it was set up.  I did try to complain, but the best I could ever get was having it deferred for years and years, accruing interest, a few times hitting my credit report, in the end I of course have to pay it and still am which is unbelieveable as it is pretty close to 20 years ago.

If there really is any opporunity to possibly get this wiped clean or at least a check of some sort to pay it off.  I'M IN FOR THIS RIDE! If this is still pretty current issue now here in 2014 please someone contact me and let me know how to get this out of my life if there is a way! 

Like so many others here, I too am wanting to get this settled. THe original lawsuit should have included ALL the students from BCTI. I am willing to go in with whomever is wanting to get this BCTI class action started again and get ALL our names cleared of the debt that BCTI caused.

I'm a former student at BCTI in 2004. Still no job related to the course I took And still paying on the loan. Please let me know if someone open another lawsuit. 

I was ripped off by these scam artists and I am still paying my student loans on this.  I had no idea there was a previous lawsuit.  Any progress on this?

I was an early highschool graduate at the age of 16 I had my diploma. However, I was homeless and needed employment fast. The recruiter told me he could help me with my expenses and get me a job in eight months. I signed all that paperwork as a minor and went into debt in excess of $16,000. However, they didnt not help me find a job, the certificate I learned later was useless and the education I received just as worthless. All the momentum I earned sacraficing my social life and my home to get out of highschool early and get a job. They sidelined me and took advantage of my lack of parents and experience. I would do anything just to get rid of the debt they caused me!

 My parents who were convinced by the staff that BCTI was a credible school told me I had to attend. When I attended the second phase I held out for the first week refusing to go after learning my little sister was aquiring the same skills in highschool! During the that phase having no Adult guidence they had me resign paperwork they informed me after having attended for a certain amount of time I would be held responsible for the debt even if I no longer attended. Leagally at sixteen in wa you can be held responsible for student loans. I need help over 20 thousand dollars in debt!

I went to the school and I also know how they rigged their employment verifications!!!!

I also missed out on the first tort against the criminal enterprise BCTI. I received the Integrated Computer Applications certification with absolutely no luck in finding a job. Grad services referred me to Volt Temp service.............Duh!. I actually thought A+ certification through them may give me the experience to find gainful employment but needed to work as a retail clerk full time to feed myself and had to quit. I owe a default amount of 17,000 dollars.

I too was scammed by this school in 1997. Too put this simply; I owe them over $15,000,the collectors won't leave me alone and I need this to quit destroying my life! I'm definitely in!!

 I too have been scammed by BCTI. I went to school there in 2000 for only a month and a half. I realized that the school was a rip off very quickly and tried to withdraw and have my student loans refunded to the D.O.E.

 Long story short, the money was not refunded and I have paid back several thousand dollars now and all that I got from that school was financial distress. I would like to join in on the class action law suit as well. You can contact me at (((REDACTED))).

I have a concern regarding your friend's experience with the class action lawsuit against Business Computer Training Institute of Gig Harbor, Washington (BCTI), circa 2007.

As a plaintiff member in the lawsuit, I received a check similar to the one mentioned in your report. However my student loan was not discharged (erased) as your friend reported, and I am still being harassed for payments at this late date in February 2013, nearly six years after the supposed resolution to this situation.

I mention this only that you be aware and not assume that your student loan will be automatically expunged by a favorable judgment as I was led to believe. Be cautious and verify everything; this cannot be over-emphasized. I sincerely wish you every success in your pursuit.

I graduated from BCTI in 2000 in Salem, OR.   I, like most of you, was young; I had just moved to Salem with my husband & baby and didn't know where I was going in life. I was waiting downtown at the bus depot, on my way home from a part-time job, when one of their reps approached me & suckered me in. I thought I would get more computer skills than what I had already known from that school, the classes were super easy and not very helpful for the amount of money they were receiving. Now 13 years later, in debt in over $10,000. I also, did not know there was a law suit filed against them, nor did I even know that they had closed. I would like see where we could go with this. I would like as many of us that are still having issues with this subject to gather together and petition the dismissal of our government loans. here is a link to a reddit post I just made. I was enrolled at BCTI's Beaverton office back in 1997.  I attending two months only to discover that with my job, my 1 year old daughter ( I was only 17) I found the class to be to fast pace for me and if I missed 1 day I would have no idea where we were when I returned the next day.  I was completely pressured to do this program from all there representives and assured that they could work around my schedule.  Yet if I missed a class because of work, the whole class didn't wait for me to come back, they just kept right on going.  I was lost and I am by no means unsmart, so it was frustrating. I had to withdraw.  Now I was only 17 years old and had absolutely no idea of what this would do to me in the long run. That was about 16 years ago I still owe 2,500 and they take my taxes and will not allow me to recieve any more help to further my education.  So because I allowed a company , who got shut down for fruad mind you, to convince me that I was making the best decision for me and my daughters future, I am at fault and must pay the reprecussions.  I might be able to swallow that if they were not proven to be FRUADS!!! Hi, I would definitely be interested in becoming a member of a (2nd, apparently) class action law suit! I finished my program back in 1996, but the "training" was outdated and antiquated immediately. I was dissatisfied from the beginning, but because I was so young, didn't realize that I had the option to 'cancel' or quit.  I've been paying my student loans for about 12 years now - just the minimum payment of course - and have always felt I shouldn't have to continue to pay for loans to a school that didn't product the results promised and ultimately - shut down.  I still owe several thousand dollars and I'm not being greedy...I'd just like the remaining balance to be forgiven.  If anyone gets another class action lawsuit going - please do contact me to be a member.

I typed in 'BCTI' to find out what the schedules were these days to see if my daughter's schedule could support going to this school. I graduated from BCTI in Vancouver, WA in Dec 1999. I was very satisfied with the classes and they got me an interview with a great company after graduation. I got that job and loved it. 8 people out of 13 dropped out from my class due to general laziness, unwillingness to show up every day, or had situations at home that prevented them from coming every day. A lot of our grade was attendance. BCTI is designed to make sure you learn everything you need to know to have an office job, and is designed to teach you everything on site, with no homework. If you show up every day and stay awake, you will learn everything you need to know. If you don't show up every day, you will end up dropping out and owing the money, just like any other trade school. I am very mad seeing these ripoff reports, and I hope people who genuinely want to learn and have the time and the drive will consider this school.
