Having read the reviews on Ripoff Report, I was mostly convinced that Boss Executive Group (BEG) is a scam. Another scam company has burned me once before and I wasnt going to let my guard down ever again. BEG found me on careerbuilder.com and asked me to come in for an interview in Denver. I gladly came in having read Ripoff Report because being unemployed, I had nothing better to do and this would be an opportunity for me to verity if people on Ripoff Report were telling the truth. After going through the first two interview process myself, I will stick to my criticism of scam companies like BEG.

 

In my first interview, I met a young outgoing man named Kanye. He explained what the company did (helping businesses get traffic in their stores) but he did not mention coupon books, door-to-door sales, or the wheelchair basketball team explained on Ripoff Report. Surprisingly, BEG called me at 10pm, far late than the time they promised to call me between 6-8 pm, and invited me for a second interview where I get to go out into the field with them all day from 11am to 8pm. The cheesy Dont forget to bring a smile, is true. This is what Kanye told me when I asked what I should bring to the job shadow day. He also told me that they would pay for my lunch (which was a lie, I had to pay myself) and wear comfortable shoes.

 

On my job shadow day, there were a handful of people who came into the lobby, mostly young minority females. I met nearly all of the people who worked there and a majority of them were fairly young. We broke into 6 or 7 teams of 3 or 4 people. I was teamed up with campaign manager Luke, distributor Shauna, and candidate Albany. My first impression of Luke is positive. He is a nice young man full of enthusiasm and seems to really enjoy his job whereas Shauna is the moody girl who just went with the motions. Luke had been with the company for 8 months and Shauna was new who only worked for a month. They are not originally from CO, they just moved to CO.

 

When we got to Lukes car, Albany and I had to wait so he can clean up his car. I was shocked how they kept the coupon books they were selling on the filthy car floor behind/under the drivers seat. These books looked like they had been stepped on. I figured that these were old books that had expired but when I checked the dates on the cover, some were new for the year 2010-2011. They seem to have a company culture of loving music, singing, dancing, and joking around because I kept hearing music blasting in their office and car. Perhaps this is their way of motivating people.

 

When all four of us got into the car and drove to our designated neighborhood, I overheard Shauna on her phone explaining to her friend that she was busy selling shit. Her offensive language wouldnt be the first and only incident; she would also use the word retarded when explaining the coupon book to a resident! The campaign manager also used foul language explaining to Shauna that she should improve her sales pitch by emphazing how the coupon books were f***ing free shit.

 

As we walked around the neighborhood for hours at a time, Luke gave us some selling

tips all day. These tips seem a bit shallow like its not what you say but how you say it, and If you dont have it, you got to fake it. I also noticed that Luke carries and flaunts fake money along with real money. He explained how this is part of a selling technique called impulse. I guess carrying fake money around fattens up the legitimacy illusion just like how they wear nametags. I asked him how many nos he gets versus yess. His rational was if you dont get 50-60s nos than you are not seeing enough people. I have also noticed that Shauna picks/steals flowers from residents yards/gardens and gives them to Luke. Luke and Shauna seem to have more than a professional relationship since they kept teasing each other all day. I even saw Shauna trying to hop on Lukes back while we were walking around.

 

Out of the hundred of door visits they only sold at most a dozen that day which is successful because he usually sells between 7 or 12 coupon books per day. Each book sells for $31.60 and it cost Cause Marketing Solutions $10 to make a book. They only give a dollar to charity, the sales person gets $10 for each book sold, and the rest goes to management. They only give a small fraction to charity yet the Denver Nuggets wheelchair basketball team was always mentioned in their sales pitch and the team is shown on the back of the coupon books.  At lunch, we met with other teams and Luke gave a brief presentation to the candidates of the fast track 8-month program which goal is to get everybody owning their own office. He showed us his handwritten notebook of the steps of the program where people start out as distributors to corporate trainer, to account manager etc. He even mentioned how the company has a high turnover rate.

 

During the job shadow, I had an accident and tripped on the uneven edge of a poorly kept sidewalk and scrapped my hand, knee, and feet. I asked Luke if he had a first aid kit in his car but he did not. Either they were totally unprepared or they really didnt care about who got hurt on a job shadow. Its just unprofessional either way. I couldnt continue with the shadowing and had to wait in his car for two hours in pain and bleeding.

 

To sum up, I had a bad day with BEG. Funny how the acronym of Boss Executive Group is BEG, they were practically begging people for money all day. With the use of foul language, soiled coupon books, pilfering flowers from peoples yards, having semi crushes/romantic/juvenile relationships with each other, and being unprepared, they were just too unprofessional for my taste. A majority of people on Ripoff Report are telling the truth, the stories of others are weirdly similar to mine. Door-to-door sales isnt for me, I know this for sure. In my opinion, not getting paid for time spent is unfair when you work for somebody else. Its just entry-level bitch work most people do not want to do because most of the time youll get rejections, waste time, be a nuisance to strangers, get low pay, get no benefits, and sometimes get molested by dogs.
