First, I have been a loyal customer of BoA for ten years. Over these years, they have been very fair to me. Once they even gave me a gift card for answering a short survey. When someone hacked into my account, they handled it excellently, and I was not responsible for the fraudulent charges. Fast forward to now. I am disabled and live on a fixed income. A few days ago, I made an error and my account was overdrawn. I wasn't too worried, because the last time this happened, BoA had a policy in place where I was allowed a few days to deposit cash before I was charged an overdraft fee. Well, that vanished quickly. When I recieved the notification that my account was overdrawn, I called to see if they would give me a good faith waiver since my social security check was due to deposit in two days. But the woman I spoke to said they couldn't do that. I asked if she thought it was fair to charge me over thirty dollars for being overdrawn by one dollar and twenty cents? She stood firm. I was flabbergasted. That amount represented a sizeable chunk of my income. I called the next day and got the same treatment. Then I got curious, and googled BOA over draft issues. And I saw right away that they had just lost a lawsuit for this same issue. Since I had never had such harsh treatment from them before, I had never investigated them for past lawsuits. Now I saw that from what I read about the class action lawsuit, that BoA had been manipulating debit card charges so that the account holder was more likely to find themselves overdrawn. Not only that, although I signed up for alerts, the alert had come in on the same day as the overdraft warning. So there wouldn't have been enough time for me to act to avoid an overdraft fee even if I wanted to. If there is another class action lawsuit against them, I am definitely wanting in. I think it is reprehensible that they treat loyal customers like this! I am planning to close my account with them because I don't feel my money is safe there anymore. They have definitely lost my trust!
