The people who live at sunmount don't know how
to respect others, along with respect for them-
selves. Back a few months I went threw an
unnecessary ordeal, that most likely could have
been advoided. Accourding to administration,
that "They really made a mountian, out of a mole
hill" and consumer wasn't included in "they".
For a few selected staff,like myself find it a
challeng to do our job.I was pretty close to not
having a job. The consumer, well moved on to a
better place. Now try telling another consumer
who has been doing treatment, why they didn't
get to move on. When another consumer hasn't done
thier treatment, or could have worked harder on
it.
I kick myself in trying to understand this
"new" CMS stuff.I have changed alot in my
thinking and my action when Iam at work. Following
rules and memos. Doing the best we can, with what
we have. Personal issues shouldn't get mixed with
professional. Befor this big changeover, staff
and consumers had a good relationship. There
were hardly any skip interventions.Consumers
were excelling intreatment, you could see how
proud they were.We don't get that as much. Its
just not the same.
Too bad that staff couldn't get a little extra cash, for all the "little extra things " we do.

All of your staff you worked with side by side day in and day out. These people are the reason you are still there. They had your back and I hope the hell you had theirs. When I started there you helped me and you probably don't remember me, but I remember when I started there I thought man if she got my back then great, holly shit was I wrong.
Some people call team two a loven team, but that's just it. We will all stick together and go down with the ship as one, one team. I love my job and I love working on this team. I know were I stand with the people I work with. I'M not saying that team 1 is a bad place to work, not at all. I know a lot of the staff that work there, and I know that they would stick together no matter what. All of the SCTA 1 work great together on both teams.
ALL the grade 11,14,17,need to work together,(as a team)I don't care if you are on team 1 or team 2. So what, I'M trying to say is "look back and you would see you were there,IN the trenches up to your neck in shit and piss, and you know how it is. We the employee's(grade 11's and 14's)are the backbone of both CIT's,we do our jobs as described when we accpeted them.No where did i see a clause stating:"Bodily injury WILL occur,shut up,accept it,move on,or GET OUT!!"
For a so called CSEA member,maybe you should change the deduction on your paycheck for union due's and convert it to "shop fee's" because doesn't sound like your backing your own staff from here.........

I have worked for the state for 13 years , have been beaten, and attacked , but still i did my job . i have enough resect for the consumers to know when to say when , but it will be a cold day in H*** before i let adminstration not take responcablity for there actions. Low staffing, crazy treatment plans ,and oh yes the envirment.
Barbara or what ever your name is when you have no one left and you have to go back to the real world .. maybe you will re-think the OWD your self . be for your staff before you loose them .
I am concerned state worker that was hurt at work an is getting ready to be terminated due to her injury being a bad one, see you use us up and then spit us out .. i am 35 and need to go on disablity for an injury that could have been prevented .(this injury didnt happen at sunmount)but i have to say some of the injuriers i did get while i worked at sunmount, could have been prevented,and should have been.
What about the other consumers who see there staff being beaten up, do you think they feel safe , i know i wouldn't .. would you ? There is more then person effected by the actions of the facility ... the other consumers that depend on there staff to help then get thru the day, and please dont spout off to me about clinicians, cause there there part of the time, not the nights and weekedends when the other staff are there. Besides the fact, when a SW or DR wants to get away from them .. its just the matter of closing a door .
Frontliners like myself , are there for it all. remeber that, and when something bad goes down you look to us to protect you, Dont you ? and yes thats are job.
Yes the consumers need to be protected , but at what cost? ..Isn't human life to great??

I might be a "bleeding heart" and really want to help these people. Or I might have took it for the great joy of just being a State employee.
I actually giggled to myself..when you made the comment about getting a job at the OWD..maybe you should be more careful on how you word things. I could take that as a threat to my job.All i wanted to do was to vent out,and state my opion.Therefor I did and i feel great.

POSTED: Tuesday, March 26, 2002I usually sit here reading everyone's rebuttals and take whats said to heart, or throw it out in the trash, but I felt compelled to answer to this one rebuttal of yours.
I title it welcome to management gail for a reason, You are a CSEA member with no regard for the safety of your own people who work for you, if you think that our pay checks, give's someone the right to assault someone, this is how management thinks, so I have to commend management in their choice to hire you as their grade 17, you have just proven your ignorance to your own workers.
Yes, it is a treatment center, which is there to treat offending behaviors, and if we allow someone to continue to do these behaviors with no consequences, than what have we taught them. The Union is trying to get this mentality stopped, because we are not there to be punching bags, yes we do know that there are risks, it still doesn't make it right.
I wonder do you think that it is OK for a police officer to get killed in the line of duty because he gets paid enough, would we say to his family, sorry we can't sentence your husband or your fathers killer, because that is what he got the big bucks for, he knew the risks, he should have worked at burger king, which brings me to my short but sweat ending, you stated that "wouldn't it be nice that if you worked in a kitchen never to get burnt".
Here's food for thought for you, I have worked in many kitchens, and never got burnt, do you want to know why? I'm glad you asked, because the people or company that I worked for were smart enough to give me pot holders to use instead of using my bare hands, put your pot holders on gail you have now crossed over to Management.

POSTED: Friday, March 22, 2002Residents at Sunmount do have a somewhat disability when it comes to learning certain things, but are sharp enough to realize that they can get you removed from your job by crying abuse.
How many of theese cases that have been investigated in the last three years have been disproven, or unsubstantiated.
I can remember only one case in the last three years where abuse/neglect was proven. Pepole who asault in public are often arrested.
People at the "Treatment" Center are allowed to go to the commons and get treats or go out in the community and get coffee.
Just what kind of treatment is this?
And one more thing Gail, I remember when you were direct care and you shouldn't throw any stones either!!

POSTED: Monday, March 18, 2002Maybe you should analyze why the consumers are there. It's a rehabilatative center hence Center for intensive treatment. Many of these people are developmentally disabled and have experienced terrible abuse.
They are criminals also, but you knew that when you accepted the very nice pay check.
Perhaps, you can begin to ask yourself...how can I help them. What am I being paid for? What's my job "purpose". How can I improve on the situation instead of joining in the "chronic" complaining.
Or if you can't come to terms with the above, you could work at the O.W.D., the chances of getting assualted are next to nill.

POSTED: Friday, March 15, 2002it is the 15 and nothing has been done in my case.
They tested him to see if he could stand trial...of course he fails..
also in the meantime he decided to shout out "ABUSE" and the 3 staff and security officer are out on icad investigation...
i recived injury from the consumer...he get open arms from Barab Hawes and pretty much tells him it will be allright.. My staff that help me that night are being punished for doing thier job,whom sunmount hired them to do. I want rights for staff..we are becomeing the consumers personal punching bags.
This consumer along with some others up thier have long long records of doing this..and yet sunmount fails to come up with an idea to fix it..someone is going to die in order for them to come up with a salution.
I know i was hired for job that deals with rapist, murders, arsonist and assultive individuals..no where did it say i had to put up with abuse.. especailly when they don't learn what they are doing is wronge and is not acceptabal behavior.
