I signed up for this school when my first born was a baby, and I told the school that I would like to sign up for the word processing course, however I explained to the financial counselor that I dont have a definite babysitter yet, well the counselor said "Dont worry about it, we can sign you up and have all the paperwork ready for the next start date, since the start date was the following monday, and I dont want you to miss the first day of the semester, because than I would need to wait for the next start date in a month", so I signed up and ask the question, "what if I am unable to attend right now?". The counselor assured me that I have 48 hours to cancel my course and I would not be charged. This was on a Thursday or Friday, I believe, because it was back in 1985, well I went to the friday orientation and when I got home my mom informed me she would not be able to keep my daughter while I go to school, so I called the counselor and let them know I would not be able to attend the school. The financial counselor told me to come in on that monday and sign the cancelation forms and I would not be obligated to the school, so I did. I went about my life as usual and I found out sometime in the year 1988 that the loan was used by the school and that they said I abandoned my education, and I was obligated to the government for the loan. I signed up for a course at another college for computerized accounting, while I was pregnant with my second child, and due to complications I could not finish that course either. when I was struggling with two children and couldn't make ends meat, I was being harassed by a credit company about the loans from both schools, I did not know what to do, but was told it is better to consolidate the loans and than I would only pay one bill. I have tried to find someone to help me with this loan at Barclay Career but no one could help or would help, so my wages have been garnished for almost 3 years for 20,000.00 for both loans with interest and my tax returns taken to the tune of 4000.00, and I still am struggling while they take my checks. The defaulted student loan people are rude and wont help, so who can help, I dont owe the money, I did not use it, the school took it, and I did not attend the classes?
