I contacted Mediacom for the VIP package of Internet, Phone and Cable on February 27, 2007 because of BellSouth's unreasonable rates for internet and phone service. Mediacom notified me they would be installing the phone on March 13th to port the phone number I had for the last nineteen years with BellSouth. I took five days vacation to reschedule the phone installation due to problems with BellSouth refusing to port the number. BellSouth continued to bill for the service even after Mediacom notified me they installed the service and ported the number. I complained for months to Mediacom that the phone did not work. In July of 2007 Mediacom discovered that BellSouth had never really released the number for porting which is why the phone did not work and that BellSouth took the number back. Mediacom had disconnected my phone lines to the house in May 2007 when they finally thought the porting went thru. BellSouth continued to bill for phone service and ran up charges of $280.56. They now have hired their ruthless high pressure attorney Gregory Barro from Shreveport, LA. I have disputed the claim for the monies and they sent me a printout of piece of paper that had BellSouth $280.56 and said that was the verification. That was nothing. I can print a document just like that and state BellSouth owes me $1458.00 in cell charges for the time I spent on the cell phone contacting Mediacom continuously for the nonworking phone service as well as the five days vacation lost and it would be just as verified as the "nothing" that they sent me. They never investigated my dispute and they never contacted BellSouth to noitify them I had disputed it. Gregory Barro's office wants their commission so they are not about to give up their client's claim. They continue to call people all over my company, my friends, family members in the town I live to harass me and pressure me. They send the threatening letters which also has a disclaimer on the back that states the attorney has no knowledge of this claim - that clerks in the office handle everything. He is Liable- they use his stationery and name when contacting the network of everyone I know. Gregory Barro's office gives attorneys a bad reputation. I can only imagine that any attorney that goes into the collection business is a true bottom feeder. BellSouth uses that kind of firm to high pressure indirectly for the greed and dirty tactics that a firm like Gregory Barro can use. I had filed a complaint with the FCC and Better Business bureau in July 2007 regarding this dirty scenario with BellSouth refusing to port my number. This attorney was hired for vengeance. What BellSouth did was unethical - and I hope illegal with FCC. I have a right to port my number. The loss of the phone number I have used for the past nineteen years is immeasurable in punitive damages and the stress has been tramautic.
