I used Amber from Bella by Amber to do makeup and hair for me. I used this opportunity to try out her hair and makeup skills and also to be photo ready for my bridal shower that evening. Her prices seemed reasonable so I thought I'd give it a try, but it was a terrible mistake. Her skills in makeup and hair are very poor. The result was very unprofessional. Instead of the nice glow i wanted i got more of a fake orange tan look. She took my constructive criticism very poorly and made excuses as to why it didn't look like what I wanted instead of correcting the issues and taking ownership.
I found her difficult to work with. She made me feel really uncomfortable and I felt like she was not listening to what I wanted. She even confided that she used to do hair in a salon but found that her clients were too picky. Now is she is a bridal hair/makeup stylist instead. Someone like this should not be working with brides. How can you work with brides if you can't please them and take constructive criticism? I hope that other brides will think twice about using her and not be lured in by the lower price. It was definitely not worth it and I would recommend paying a little more for someone who is actually trained to do makeup. There is most definitely a difference.
What's worse is that she asked for a deposit before we even had the trial, so I had to pay her without even knowing how terrible her skills were. If you are going to request a deposit before someone actually sees your work then you should stand behind your work.
I have tried contacting her but she continues to be defensive and deletes any honest negative review I post on sites like weddingwire or facebook that she is associated with, stating that I am a liar. Why would I lie? It is my honest opinion, isn't that what a review is? I feel that potential clients should have the right to read all of a vendor's reviews, positive and negative, and make their own informed decision. I hope that this review on Bellabyamber will be heard and be useful for other brides.
