In June of this year 2008 , I too was having trouble with my lap top . Under a warranty I had paid several hundred dollars for. The lap top is two years old . I took the lap top in to the Clearwater store and had been told when I bought the warranty it would cover any problems even a new screen if broken ,virus's etc. and the geek squad would fix it on the spot and at the store . No way they said ,"as I explained I believe it has a virus".They would not even pick up my lap top to look at it.
With warranty and receipt in my hand. They simply said ,"we do not fix a virus." I was not even certain it was a virus .They proceded to tell me ,"to leave the lap top and it would be $139.00 charge to start to fix it! " I was furious . and said so.It is not by Chance the store check in ,"guards" are right by the geek squad shop!
NEVER A Best Buy geek again.

Best buy and the likes are nothing more than ripoff wearhouses. They are a revolving door when it comes to employees, they hire kids who know nothing about products and their Geek Squad is a joke.
My suggestion is find a local computer store that have been around for a while, 5 years plus, stop being so cheap, you only go to Best Buy and the likes because you think you are getting a good deal when reality you are getting nailed, and nailed hard.
The local computer store you can easily check their reputation and if they have been around for a long time, some 10 or more years, you can go in and ask to talk to the owner and buy it directly from the owner. Whatever that owner tells you 99% of the time they will honor.
Extended service agreements are nothing more than paper you pay money for. The problem is our law makers are a bunch of morons, we need better laws when it comes to warranty and disclosure.
