I bought a Sony digital video camera in November 2003 for my business. In January 2004 I took it to Best Buy, hoping for an exchange, since the picture was breaking up, and I had sent a client home with an unusable video.
Was told that Sony did not allow exchanges and neither did Best Buy, except for the first 14 days. That was not made very clear at time of purchase.

Camera was sent out for repair - 2 weeks - received a phone call saying it had to go to Sony - another 2 weeks. Camera returned to me March 2 in worse shape than when it went in. Called Sony who said too bad so sad, talk to Best Buy, it's their policy. Called Best Buy repair manager Danielle who said too bad so sad, bring it back for another repair, it's Sony policy. Did that. After 2 weeks, still haven't heard from Best Buy.
My business is still without a camera and nobody but me seems to care.

Best Buy is not the best place to buy.

Paul Read between the lines

AUTHOR: Patrick - (U.S.A.)

Paul,
I have had the same situation with Best Buy and I had the Protection plan. My video cam was back for repair 4 times before I got a new one. I have never heard of a company issuing a new camera after the first time it breaks.

So what is your point here??? She had her video cam for 3 months, even the cheapest camera should not break in that amount of time.

Why not buy from Best Buy or Circuit City ect., They are very good stores with good products. There ranges of products are from the low end to the high end. I take you shop the low end or you would know this. If you think you will get any differnt results from a high priced place , you are the fool. Go buy all that double the price merchandise. A smart business person always shops for quality and price. That is how to make your bottom line. That is the way business today is operated.

I assume you do not own your own business or even hold a high position anywhere. If I were you, I would refrain from sending rebuttals til you know what you are talking about. You try to make this woman look like a fool. You are the fool my friend.

You changed the subject

AUTHOR: Rachel - (U.S.A.)

Paul, you said: "Secondly, from the way you made it sound, you did not purchase the protection plan from Best Buy which would cover the problem you noted and would warrant an exchange. This again is very silly, since you use the product every day and once again rely on it for your business. It does not sound like you took any means at all whatsoever to protect your business assets in the event that their performance deteriorated over time due to frequent use."

Actually, I did indeed buy the only protection plan they had to offer, and I don't consider this camera cheap, sorry. But your comments on buying from a low end budget store, i.e.Best Buy, were interesting, even if they had nothing to do with the original complaint.

Business or personal use, it doesn't matter. A brand new top-of-the-line Sony digital camera should last longer than 6 uses. Bottom line is still poor service and costumer relations.

Let's make some sense here ...

AUTHOR: Paul Pickle - (U.S.A.)

A few things do not make sense here. First off, why would you depend on a low-end consumer electronics store for an important purchase that you would need for business use? Wouldn't you want the reliability and dependability of a professional-grade camera that can handle the demands of your business?

Secondly, from the way you made it sound, you did not purchase the protection plan from Best Buy which would cover the problem you noted and would warrant an exchange. This again is very silly, since you use the product every day and once again rely on it for your business. It does not sound like you took any means at all whatsoever to protect your business assets in the event that their performance deteriorated over time due to frequent use.

Thirdly, as a responsible business person, why would you purchase anything without understanding the return policy and associated terms and conditions? Believe it or not, Best Buy makes it extremely easy for even the most simple-minded folk to understand the rules. Not only are all such policies posted in bright blue signs throughout the store, but the policy is also listed on the back of the receipt. Unfortunately it is the tall-tale-telling customers who claim they had no idea of the policy when they stand at the customer service counter demanding a return when they themselves are simply trying to get out of their responsibility as a consumer.

May I suggest that in the future, you research appropriate equipment for your business, and make better choices as a consumer so as to ensure that the equipment you purchase is able to perform and last as long you need it to. Remember, you get what you pay for. Buying a cheap Best Buy camera will not get you the professional quality that you desire, and not protecting your investment is another major mistake on your part.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

lol After the 4th time , finially we got a new camera

AUTHOR: Patrick - (U.S.A.)

Hi Racheal
I can understand your problem. I also went through the same thing. but my camera had to go back 4 times with a total of 6 months and 2 vacations wasted. also 2 of times in for repair, they said it just needed to be cleaned. lol After the 4th time , finially we got a new camera. due to the lemon law

If you need it for your business, I suggest just to buy another camera. and keep working on the problem with the other one. this way , you will have a spare anyway. cause best buy will drag this out !
Good luck
