I purchased a Kindle Fire in February of 2012. For an additional fee, I purchased participation in the 2-year"Buy Back" program. Set to expire in March 2014.

The program was supposed to allow me to "sell" my Kindle Fire and purchase a new one when/if one came out. The Kindle HD has come out.

I went to "sell' my Kindle Fire to purchase a Kindle HD, in December 2012. First I was told no such program exists. I asked the cashier to please look it up because I was sure I purchased this additional option. When she did, she confirmed I, did indeed, have this. She proceeded to look up the amount that I would be given for my Kindle and promptly told me that I would get a whopping $32 for my Kindle Fire.

My Kindle Fire is better than "like new" it has been in a case, since the first week I purchased it. It has a screen protector on it and I use a stylus to maneuver the screen. In other words, my Kindle Fire has only been touched by human hands, maybe 3 times since I've had it, but for Excellent condition, I was offered $32 dollars. I still have the original packaging and everything.

The cashier also informed me that they no longer have this program, now they have a "Trade-In" program. When I inquired as to the difference in the two programs, she said..."You don't "PAY" for the Trade-In program.

No more Buy Back

AUTHOR: IntheKnow - (USA)

The reason there is no more "buy back" program is that in addition to being deceptive and receiving bad publicity, BBY lost a $29 million judgement on issues relating to this program.  On any trade-in website, there are no guarantees of buyback price.  Electronics depreciate quickly and the resellers have to make a profit.  Better selling it yourself on place like Ebay.

How much are you expecting?

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

You can get a used kindle fire for just over $100 these days. Why not sell it used then thru ebay? Selling anything used to a retailer like this will get you pennies on the dollar back. They have to try and make money off the item too.

Also, if I remember right, the reason they changed their program guidelines is they are being sued by a company for infringing on their buy-back program. They HAD to change it per the lawsuit (again if I am remembering correctly)

Now is $32 insulting? Absolutely, but it sounds about right for what someone would offer at a place like this. Typically you see a place offer 25% of retail for an item and they will turn around and sell it used for 50-60% of retail.
