I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about one of the companies that pays them to be a member and receives a grade of A+.  I sent the BBB a well written and very detailed complaint about the business, Allied Home Warranty.  The complaint included a copy of Allied's One-page contract, a work order showing the work needing to be done, my complaint detailing why it should be covered under their warranty, and Allied's written refusal to honor their contract.  The BBB refused to investigate and in fact refused to send a copy of the complaint to the company, Allied Home Warranty.

 

I then discovered that the BBB has been investigated by ABC News 20/20 and there are numerous stories about the BBB membership ratings scam (do a search for 'bbb selling the grade').  

 

Here is the response I got from the BBB about a company they give an A+ rating to:

 

Dear xxxxxxxxx :

This message is in regard to your complaint submitted on 8/24/2014 11:05:22 PM against Allied Warranty, LLC. Your complaint was assigned ID xxxxxxxx. 

We thank you for your letter regarding your recent experiences with a business in our area.  

There are some complaints the BBB cannot process due to our by-laws and national guidelines.   The BBB cannot intervene with issues regarding store or company policy.  Please understand policies are not required to be posted in the stores or on receipts in the State of Texas.  It is very important that consumers ask a lot of questions prior to purchasing a product or use a service to ensure that they understand the company's refund/return/exchange policy clearly.

You may wish to pursue your issue through the court system.  The number for Small Claims Court information in Harris County is 713.755.5137.

The BBB has not notified the other party in question but will keep your letter on file.   We sincerely hope you can find another way to resolve your dispute.
