FRS received a phone call from a Birch representative saying they were are part of AT&T and want to help lower our company's current phone rates. After speaking with several different people and answering "yes" to a number of questions, we're told Birch will handle all matters for the new rate change to take place and there is no need for us to cancel the existing account.



After Birch called to say everything would become effective as of Jan 16, we receive a bill for over $500 from AT&T saying we owe them early termination fees. Immediately we called Birch asking what is going on and that we received a bill from AT&T for prematurely breaking a contract with them. Birch rep says they are not responsible for this and we either stay with them or they will charge us early termination fees of $750. We are then threatened that we have no way out of this since they have a recording of our submission to join them. (Note: The recording, of course, does not include the representative telling us they are part of AT&T.)  It is undoubtly apparent that Birch is in no way connected with AT&T.



A phone call is then made to AT&T who empathizes with us and states that many of their customers are deceived into joining Birch in this same manner. They offer to get us switched back with them, which we do.



We later receive a threat letter from Birch saying that if we don't decide to stay with them they will bill us for for $1,750. An extra $1000 has now been tacked on.



We file with the BBB in Georgia, in which case Birch denies all of the above and offers to settle for $250 and if we don't accept they will send the $1,750 bill over to collections. We refuse to allow Birch to get away with this and chose not to pay even one cent.



Anyone reading this, PLEASE DO NOT JOIN BIRCH COMMUNICATIONS! Customer-care is not important to them. They will not clarify you are likely breaking a contract with a current service to join with them and will hope that you believe them to be part of AT&T. Once you are joined, you will then realize you are between a rock a hard place, because both companies with be charging early termination fees, depending on which one you stay with. Don't get yourself in this position and cordially say no thank you to any Birch Communication's offers.

After sending them a refusal-to-pay letter and why no payment would be made, we received a few threatening calls and letters/bills for a while, but this finally ended. Apparently and hopefully it was dropped.

Hi, i am in the same situation with this company. They want me to pay $1500.00 to close the account because they say i have an account for 3 years. You said that you didnt pay the fee, what happend after that?
