Ok, so the economy is pretty bad right now, but I answer an ad on craigslist for a Sales Rep, and Marketing position. I get an email from them and I should have know gmail address kinda weird... but no, I give it a chance and look up the address and phone number online, nothing bad, nothing for a scam, so I go on the interview.

The location of the office was nice, Manahattan Beach, the office looked legit. I get to the front desk, and there are two receptionist there, and I realize suite 500, is not just one suite but a few put together, there was a call for a dr. appointment, a lawers office, and im assuming more than a few offices being rented out. But still, im giving this a chance, and I go on my interview slightly nervous, but still hoping this could lead to something promising. (Little did I know)

So, I get a call back, and at this point he the interviewer made it seem legit, like he is a contractor for a client whose name i know too well, and they are trying to get her cosmetic line out there. Well, I was interested because i had some of her makeup and i thought it might open some doors. So im scheduled the very next day for a 2nd interview, and this is a day with the supervisor to see how things go, if we can get a long and the job is fit for me or not.

I show up, (once again, i should have known when they tell me to wear flats) and the guy asks me where my shoes are and why am i wearing a half inch heel. Silly me I thought this was supposed to look professional, and the only flats i have are flip flops. Non the less, i still try to keep an open mind. He (being the first guy i interviewed with) brings me to a room full of 8 to 10 people and introduces me to a supervisor, telling me this is the one who will give me my training, and he is the best at what he does. He (the supervisor) wants to know if Ill be able to walk in these shoes.  So we go downstairs and head out to a car, and jump in with 3 other people... (thats how horror flicks start, but I THOUGHT i needed THIS job... i thought i wanted it) So we head out to a city and Im told during lunch we will discuss more of how the business will work. as we are driving he asks the other two people in the car if we should just do lunch now so we dont have to bother with it during the day... they agree, and we go to lunch first.

This is where I was slammed with a surprise. So the businesses we go to... not the typical idea i had in mind, but food 4 less, shoes stores, basically a small market area... the potential clients, anyone who is walking down the street. He tells me they have this "Law of averages" which they believe to be talking to as many people as possible. (he said an average of 300 to 400 people each.) then they bust out with "Hi, were launching a promotion for this particular client, would you like to buy some makeup.... its normally 150, but you get this all for $20. then they wanted to make it 4 items for the small price of 20 bucks. Nice right... wrong.

he proceeds to tell me the day, starts at 830am, and ends around 830 pm, but theyre working on making the day shorter and hoping it will end at 715. He was surprised by my reactions to many of his statements, and longer story short, he thinks he will make 90k to 100k in about 6 to 9 months.  Mind you he has only been there for 2 months total.

The only way he gets to move up is if he has 4 sales reps under him and one of which needs to start having 4 sales reps under them... (I tell him hold on, so this is like a pyramid. he says no. Its a multi level management business. He proceeds to tell me they are only commision based, and make 7 of the $20 they sold the item for. Oh and they get paid daily. I ask about w2's or 1099's and he swears they ahve w2's.

I then asked one too many questions and didnt have the right attitude becasue he tells me i wont have a 3rd and final interview. lol like i wanted it. But i am now stranded about an hour from where my car is, and no way to get back because, they have a business to run, and selling this makeup is their job.

I wanted to let anyone and everyone know that be aware what your getting into. I shouldnt have been so desperate to think it was going to get better. the flags were there, i should have paid attention to them. Luckily I made it back, I have my car, nothing happened to me, other than wasting a day with an idiot who thought he knew what the next 6 months of his life were panned out to be because he hustled... even saying it made it seem sketchy. the next complain i write is to the "product they were sellings company..

No one needs a job that bad.... there is a right way and wrong way to do business, and its just not fair, or legal to do it the way they planned to.
